bed. one says wife, one says husband. in the whole er, they are the only ones who aren't alone would you talk to us about that? >> when i was writing it, i didn't know if it was meant to be optimistic or sad, because really with the restrictions that we have around patients coming in right now, or patients' families, we're not o letting patients' families come in because of risk to them, also restrictions on personal protection equipment it's just not safe the only way to have a visitor -- this is something we've never seen before, husband and wives, partners in the emergency room at the same time. we've seen it quite a few times in the past few weeks. i'm happy they are together. i mean, i'm happy at that moment they were well and alive and have each other but we don't know what the future holds for either of them. >> you have such a unique perspective, not only are you a

physician but you were a patient during the ebola crisis, treated in new york. you know what it's like to be laying in bed and watching people covered up in all that gear with you and just the loneliness that that invokes. >> i shared this a couple days ago in "washington post" in an opinion piece. this feeling looking down as a physician, a nurse, it's hard, because we still don't know exactly what works for this illness. it's so tough. but looking up as a patient is so much more difficult, because no matter what people say, no matter what your providers do, you feel toxic you're sick but at the same time you're worried you could infect any of them. you look up at them in goggles that are fogged or try to understand them through a mask that muddles your words. it's really disorienting and really quite sad for a patient as well as providers. >> you spoke with savannah a couple weeks ago when we were kind of on the front end of this

and you're speaking to us today. how has your perspective changed on where we are with this virus? >> what we're seeing right now is we're seeing a decrease in the number of cases presenting to our emergency rooms, which is absolutely wonderful we've seen a ramping up in the amount of capacity we have in terms of beds. we still have very, very sick patients we still have a lot of deaths every day here in new york and across the country my concern is that when people start hearing about a decrease in deaths or decrease in cases or these ideas that we can start safely start opening up parts of the country in the next week, what people aren't understanding is this is going to be with us for quite some time. we're going to have to continue to do physical distancing. we're going to have to go through a lot of testing there's still a lot of infections, death and preparation in front of us we're not at the back end of this in some sense we're still at the beginning. >> all right dr. spencer, i know you have a busy day ahead of you. a big thank you to all of you and your colleagues.

good morning to you. it's 8:26. i'm marcus washington. a show of appreciation is under way for health care workers in the south bay. at o'connor hospital in san jose. firefighters, police and sheriff's deputies showed their support for the nurses and doctors on the front lines battling covid-19. kris sanchez is at the hospital. she'll join us at midday for a live report. another event this morning was in gilroy. santa clara county deputies there showing their appreciation for health care workers who were just finishing their shift showing thanks to those health care workers leaving for the day. in santa clara county fire is asking the public to do the same from home. the last thing they want is more people coming out there and potentially spreading coronavirus. now let's get a look at the forecast for you.

>> my sister, morgan's older sister asking what she can do locally in the l.a. area she lives up there one of her good friends from a school her kids go to knew a bunch of er doctors and people facing the challenge we heard that. the thing that kind of shocked her was they needed a good meal. she obviously didn't have the ability to appropriate a lot of ppes so meals were the most obvious choice they went and delivered 85 meals that night to the er it just blew the doctors and support staff away it was powerful for them and for the other parents at the school. they basically just scrambled all their resources and started immediately 501 c 3, they have 100% match every dollar that comes in goes to feeding doctors and frontline workers dealing

with this. so far they have 24 hospitals. they have delivered 14,000 meals a week now they are just basically short on supplies so we're just in the fundraising mode giving them run until may. right now until may 1st is the money we have. we all kind of see the runway being through june 1st we're trying to wrangle up some more it's been incredible the response you get from the people that are doing this. >> it really is such an act of love the other thing i like about this idea, it's helping the restaurant industry as well. a lot of restaurants we know have been so hard hit by the stay-at-home orders that now you guys are through this organization able to place these orders the restaurants are have the bu doing something good for their communities. >> yeah, that's the biggest challenge of this. no one has ever faced anything

like this before in any aspect so these restaurants that are local to these hospitals, in some cases the doctors or the health care workers favorite spot, now they are able to support them, get a great meal i think more than anything it's the emotional support. i think everybody feels pretty isolated the demands put on our health care system right now are unlike anything anyone has seen before. so i think knowing that people arly important for them, too just for the emotional boost to keep going >> yeah. you can get just a little and be part of this process we'll put the information on today.com. morgan, i've got to ask you how it's been, m babies how are you holding up >> teaching three grades with three babies is definitely not something i would have ever thought i would do in my lifetime but to have everyone together, we've been really creative
