and joining us. good to have you. >> my pleasure. hello, good morning. >> like so many nonprofits you've had such tough times. i know reportedly you've had numerous layoffs there. the big fund-raisers going away. yet there is still a need, a big one, here in silicon valley. tell us about it. >> well, that's right. the good news is we've been able to protect our staff, protect the hours and see an increased demand for services that are skyrocketing. we're calling on the community to come on out, support our work, amplify our message and walk a mile in her shoes. >> let's talk about that. walk a mile in her shoes. it's that great event. i know marcus has been participating in it as well where you get men to put on these heels and literally walk a mile. it's to raise awareness for domestic violence. there's great concern during
6:10 am
this time of the pandemic and people sheltering at home that women aren't able to get out and get the help they need. this event now you're having to kind of re-invent yourself as well and hold it virtually. >> that's right. it's virtual. you can walk a mile anywhere -- on a treadmill, in your neighborhood. we're asking everyone in the bay area to step up, to walk a mile to show our community that we support and are asking the whole community to get involved. it's 56 hours between june 23rd and june 25th, and it's really a great way to show our community that we care about raising awareness, raising funds and providing services to survivors of viol an 800 number because should people need services, they're still available.
6:11 am
>> that's right. we are fully operational and we have more support than ever before. and so survivors of violence need to know that we're here for you. we remain fully operational for you. we are ensuring that survivors have all the services they need. but i do want to share with our community, laura, that the need is going up and now more than ever before we sure could rely on our community to make sure services are delivered. we're asking the community to literally step up with us, walk the walk, amplify our message. the other heartening thing right now is that we've seen survivors of violence get connected with our service because of the community. so amplifying our message is truly making a difference in helping people get connected with the help they need. >> very important. there's the number on your screen as well. tanis crosby with the ywca, thank you for joining us. >> thank you. we're talking about what a

6:18 am
twitter has responded. it won't take the tweets down, but a spokesperson did say we are deeply sorry about the pain these statements and the attention they are drawing are causing the family. it says it's working on new policies so we can more effectively address things like this going forward, and we hope to have those changes in place shortly. twitter has said in the past it will not censor the president, it will not take down his tweets or change them. at the same time it was apologizing it added blue fact checks underneath the president's inaccurate claims that mail-in voting is fraudulent and that california is sending ballots to everyone in california. that's inaccurate. we'll get to that at 6:45. this segment is about how the president is making inaccurate claims on twitter about a family. this next segment will be about how the president is making inaccurate claims on twitter about the democratic process. other news, the wall street journal reports amazon may buy

6:22 am
as we get through the next few days, our temperatures start to come down and then look at the weekend, more clouds and that chance of showers. but, hey, at least it's going to feel much more comfortable. mike, you're looking at the morning commute. any issues popping up? no, kari, our pattern seems to be at 6:15 things start to lighten up. the early burst in the south bay, better news, also, for north 85. that freeway has reopened. a crash that was blocking all lanes has moved to the shoulder. unfortunately, we still have the deadly crash involving the pedestrian. over here on surface streets, so do keep that in mind as you travel through the major intersection. the rest of the bay shows a smooth flow of traffic. the note yesterday metering lights on at the bay bridge. i don't think we'll have the same this morning. i think that was just a rush of folks checking in after the >> thanks, mike. america's first manned space mission in years blasts off in a matter of hours. spacex prepares for liftoff.
