was a chaotic night last night, and there are buildings still smoldering. i will show you what the protests look like last night in minneapolis. thousands of people were on the streets and there were fires and looting in some locations and tear-gas. minneapolis police had to call in help from neighboring agencies as well. officers are now investigating the death of a man that was found shot to death on a sidewalk. speaking overnight, a police night was an escalation. >> tonight was a different night of protesting than the night before. the night before we started out with about 8,000 protesters at 38th and chicago, and they were great. they were chanting for things to remain peaceful. tonight did not have that same feel. >> 46-year-old george floyd died

group, and it's called adopt a senior, and it's like a brag book of their kids accomplishments, and somebody adopted that student and then they surprise the seniors with gift baskets in the weeks leading up to the graduation. the mom who launched this effort, her daughter would have been graduating this year but sadly her daughter passed away in 2014 from cystic fibrosis. >> along with other people, they decided this would be a nice surprise for us, seeing my daughter in a cap and gown and i appreciated it and love it and appreciate they did that because now i get to see her in a cap and gown, but it didn't start out and i definitely didn't want to make it about us, my daughter and our situation, but it was about the seniors and making them smile during the time where they should be celebrating.

some of us still reaching into the upper 90s today in the inland east bay. we will talk more about that weekend cooldown and what is ahead coming up in a few minutes. mike has a look at what is happening with the commute. >> yeah, keeping my eye on the map over my shoulder, mostly green, slowing out of the altamont, and a growing crowd at the bay bridge toll plaza. we may have metering lights in a few but not right now. a lot of essential deliveries, and with the deliveries going on, let's not forget about those doing the delivery, and i am talking about the truckers, and caltrans will talk about the folks making the longer haul, but that longer drive, they are short on options on where to grab any food or drink on those long drives. caltrans, the video is talking about an announcement they are making with regards to food trucks allowed at some rest stops with proper permitting.

good thursday morning. right now at 6:46, in walnut creek we just have to make it one more day of this hot weather before we get a cooldown this weekend. we're going to start out with our temperatures in the 60s and see it heat up again into the 90s. we'll talk about what is ahead for your weekend coming up in a few minutes. we may have one more day, a third in a row, with metering lights at the bay bridge. not yet but look at the slowing approaching the toll plaza.

i am watching for the updates from chp and, of course, we will share that. new overnight in the north bay, police investigating a deadly shooting. officers found a man who had been shot in the chest at about 9:00 last night in a credit union parking lot along the row tphupbt park. so far a suspect has not been identified. president trump says he will take action against silicon valley's social networks. >> he's targeting twitter, but it could affect other platforms like youtube. >> yes, or ebay, and of course, facebook as well. any platform in which the user up loads content on to the platform. up until now the platforms have been absolved of any wrong doing if somebody puts something up there false or derogatory, they
