we'll get more of that breaking news for you in a bit. first, meteorologist kari hall the rainfall totals. with some great news for a lot of people who maybe want to venture outside today. that cooler air comes in. next week it starts to warm up. it's cooler and we've been watching hot temperatures for the inland areas but today not as hot. it looks like that problem we'll be in the upper 50s and it has cleared out at least in terms of road conditions. won't heat up as fast. we're not seeing any delays, but today we're looking at mid-70s there is still a car -- what with some of our warmest spots appears to be a car in the in the inland areas in the low ditch. if you do have to travel near 80s today. much cooler along the coast now that area you might see crews getting ready to clear that out. that we have dense fog developing. i'll be watching this and we'll as far as 880 i want to show you talk about weekend rain chances that live cam because it's in our forecast coming up in a few minutes. starting to build, and this is normally a hot spot monday vianey has been keeping an eye through friday. we've seen clearer conditions on the roads. but even though it's friday i've any updates? noticed a lot of cars heading we've been doing pretty out through that area. good, no major delays but the chp report looks like a crash at aside from that our traffic maps the shoulder blocked along 237 are doingrs to be a crash along westbound at exit six, great

i'm bay area churches are planning to reopen this weekend defying local health orders. governor newsom laid out guidelines for reopening places of worship. they can only hold 25% of capacity. and up to 100 parishioners. plus, they need the green light from their county health department. over 100 pastors threatened to hold services no matter what the restrictions are. lassen county is the first to pull back on restrictions lifted. this after coronavirus cases there jumped four fold. now before you get too alarmed, the county had not reported a single coronavirus case until a week ago. it has a population of 30,000. the number of cases jumped to five all from one person

affected. it shows how fast it can happen. businesses that were open will now shut down for seven days. colusa county lifting all restrictions. supervisors approved it unanimously. about 20,000 people live in that county and there have been just five confirmed cases with no hospitalizations. two northern california lawmakers are betting on legalized sports waging as a way to recoup massive budget losses hoping to put a measure on the ballot in the fall. two-thirds of the senate and assembly would have to approve that first. california faces a $54 billion deficit. moving on to decision 2020 now. presumptive democratic nominee joe biden says he'll pick a running mate by august 1st. that's just about two weeks ahead of the convention. he says his campaign has now interviewed everyone on his short list. now they're asking the

the fog is what will help cool us all off and then going into tomorrow the approach of a storm system brings in rain. yes, this late in the season we're talking about rain here and we are going to see it starting out early in the morning with some spotty showers. but there's also the possibility that we may see some lightning with some of this moving in. and with the lack of rain for some of us, this could pose a wildfire threat. as we go through the morning into the afternoon and then a few pop-up cells could spark off lightning. what happens here, we talk about elevated lightning. it's going to be drawn into this storm and as it does so the lower levels of the storm kind of evaporates but you're still looking at the upper levels of this storm producing some rain and lightning that doesn't quite make it to the ground.

as the rain starts to fall, it also cools off the air and pushes out some strong winds but still the chance of lightning developing without much rain will pose a wildfire threat going into the weekend. a lot of elements we'll have to watch out for as we go into the weekend, the potential of some lightning with a lack of rain as most of us could only get a few trace amounts of rain, maybe higher in terms of the rainfall totals especially for parts of the north bay. as we get a look at our forecast over the next seven days, a lot of changes here from some low 80s today to the 70s tomorrow. that chance of showers sunday will be the pick of the weekend as we reach the mid-70s, the rain moves out. we'll start to warm up once again. vianey, you've been keeping an eye on the fog as well as the morning commute. what's the update? so far chp did issue the fog advisory for the golden gate

bridge because of limited visibility. no accidents to report at this time. traffic dell lays along 880 because there are a couple more cars on the road. let's get a live look at the bay bridge because i want to see how that toll plaza is doing. mike said he was surprised earlier in the week when lights were on. we'll start to notice building but no traffic lights to report. i'll send it back to you. >> thanks, vianey. a zookeeper attacked by two lions is in critical condition in australia. police outside of sydney say the 35-year-old woman was cleaning an enclosure when the cats mauled her. a crew airlifted her to the hospital in sydney. the zoo has been closed since march 25th due to australia's lockdown.

demonstratithis morning after a welcome back. it's 6:56. a look at the top stories we're following. and breaking news for you. some fires are still burning in minneapolis after a night of protests. they were demonstrating against police killing of george floyd. last night protesters made their way into a police precinct and ignited several fires. a police spokesman says the building was evacuated shortly after 10:00 p.m. local time. we don't know yet the extent of that damage, but there were no serious injuries reported. earlier this morning state police arrested a cnn crew kofr covering the protests for not obeying an order to clear the street. they have since released the crew. the governor of minnesota deeply apologizes for the arrest and says it was totally unacceptable and inadvertent.

cnn says that the arrest was a violation of their journalist first amendment rights. protests are taking place across the country and here in the bay area. happening today demonstrations in oakland are expected to be out in full force. yesterday dozens ofro arrested. there's much more of that breaking coverage coming up for you right after "today in the bay" on the "today" show in just minutes. a live look this morning of cvs in fremont where you can be tested for free at a pharmacy window. tests are by appointment, however, and you do have to qualify first like working a high-risk environment or have coronavirus symptoms. this is video provided by cvs. people can do a self-test at the window and the results come back in three days. cvs is adding testing in nine bay area cities and in each city is only at one cvs location.

starting next week all nursing homes across california will be required to regularly test residents and the workers there. the state health department sent senior care centers some letters this week outlining everything going on, requires all facilities to have no individual plans in place for testing, isolation and response. nursing homes account for about 40% of the state's coronavirus deaths. 6:58 for you and it's time to get a look at the forecast for us which will be a pleasant one out there for us, kari. yes, much cooler today. we'll be watching out for some scattered showers for the weekend especially tomorrow. sunday is looking dry and next week we'll start to warm up with san francisco's temperatures reaching into the mid-60s over the next few days. how is it looking for the commute, vianey? you shouldn't encounter any major problems.
