>> light right now. right now the maps aren't showing any problem. south 880 at 66 right around the coliseum an earlier crash, i believe, that cleared without incident. a little slowing shows up on the left side, north across the golden gate bridge. that typically does pop up about now but there are no crews out there with road work again. the curfew is in place. we'll check on that. the rest of the bay all green. 101 across the bay coming up. back to you. breaking overnight in the south bay, a busy night for san jose police investigating several crime scenes all during the city's curfew. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live in downtown san jose to show us how and what happened during the early morning hours. kris? >> reporter: well, hi there, marcus, i'm about a block from where at least one san jose police officer fired a weapon last night. this is not, however, near where the protests were happening last night around the same time. we don't have all the details yet but we can confirm the

department is investigating that shooting that happened about a block from where i am north 8th and mission street is where it happened. we also confirm there was a hit-and-run nearby that is related to the suspect shot by police. we will continue to prep for details in that case and will let you know when we get them. also, look what else was happening after the curfew order went into effect. the driver in the bmw put on quite a show as onlookers set off fireworks all happening near san jose city hall near where the protests were happening. officers did arrest that driver and several other people. san jose police are also investigating at least one stabbing that happened at the 7-eleven store just off the san jose state campus. it seems to have stemmed from a fight happening inside that convenience store. we know that at least one person was stabbed. there could be another victim as well. we know that homicide investigators have arrived on the scene. however, sjpd has not confirmed

this is, in fact, a homicide investigation. just a reminder, the curfew order -- not the shelter order, the shelter order is still in place but the curfew order runs from 8:30 at night until 5:00 in the morning n. san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." all right, thanks so much, kris. as she mentioned most curfews are expected to expire within the next 30 minutes or so and that includes palo alto which announced its curfew. the restrictions as well as all of contra costa and alameda county expire at 5:00 a.m. san jose and san francisco have similar orders in place. as nbc bay area sky ranger flew over vallejo last night things were mostly quiet maybe because about 50 national guard members are now there assisting on the ground but there were some moments of conflict. police say at one point early in the night protesters briefly surrounded the police department but eventually disburse d.

a new normal starts today in contra costa county. health officials are lifting some of the covid-19 restriction that is have been in place. here is what you need to know. indoor shopping can resume and office spaces can reopen. that means many people can start to go back to work. outdoor museums and child care also reopening. services such as housekeeping, car washes and pet grooming can also resume. most storefronts we saw were boarded up in advance of last night's protest. health leaders say the county is making significant headway in helping to stop the spread. well, business in santa clara county are looking forward to friday. outdoor dining will be allowed. also indoor shopping under new restrictions. summer camps, child care also will resume. as for any reopenings beyond that, the health department leader, dr. sara cody tells

and a large protest on the peninsula ended with an unexpected gesture last night. this is after the curfew started in redwood city, a group who faced off with police erupted in cheers. "a mercury news" photographer caught the moment an officer took a knee and hugged a protester. after the crowd dispersed they say police reforms must be made. >> it cuts me to my core because it's not fair. i'm a lighter complexion. i've never had to endure that. >> they boarded windows up, many were covered with art or messages of hope. hundreds of

to take a knee at mosswood park in solidarity with george floyd. in the meantime, 30 minutes later, san jose mayor sam liccardo is asked to join him in 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence, the amount of time floyd was pinned to the ground by minneapolis police. it will be streamed on the mayor's facebook page. and at 4:00 p.m. a peaceful protest is planned. they plan to march from mission high school to the mission police department. new video for you this morning of two of the largest protests last night this is across the country. in washington, d.c., things briefly became heated. this is after curfew when some of those activists started throwing bottles at police officers. but it calmed down quickly. in portland, oregon, police at one point used tear gas to disperse and agitate the crowd. police there also say things, for the most part, were peaceful. the majority of

the record we had of 102 degrees and in san francisco we're going to be close but not setting a new one today. we could set a new record in oakland and will be watching those numbers in san jose. as we get a look at all of our high temperatures this afternoon, yes, it's going to be hot. that heat advisory going from 10:00 in the morning until 9:00 in the evening. a prolonged period of the day will be dangerous to be outside. as we look at our high temperatures once again reaching up to 80. and then you head inland where we are going to be under the heat advisory reaching over 100 degrees. the intense heat building today and starting to back off tomorrow. a storm system approaching and it could possibly bring in a chance of rain farther to the north. it looks like it does miss us but we will feel the winds picking up and much cooler temperatures by next week. we're starting to feel the heat

demonstrations in sacramento and san diego. sacramento activists held a march and rally but dispersed shortly after curfew kicked in. in san diego protests also went into the night. they remained mostly peaceful. san diego's police department has, in fact, also become the latest to ban the controversial knee restraint technique used by minneapolis officers for nearly nine minutes on george floyd. demonstrators by the thousands took to the streets of los angeles yesterday, many calling for the firing of the city's now embattled police chief. things stayed mostly quiet unlike the night before when more than 1,000 arrests were made. perhaps yesterday, a signature moment, came when mayor eric garcetti taking a knee with protesters and faith leaders as he tried to speak to the crowd. many were reportedly calling out to defund the police department.
