the upper 70s here, and our inland valleys will heat up into the mid-90s today. so we'll have this today, still warm tomorrow but then cooling off. so i'll have more of that in the forecast. mike, you've been watching the commute. how is it looking? no surprises. that's what we want for the morning commute. we have slowing out of the altamont, west 580. the earlier debris looks like it's in greenville. no problems for the south bay. a little slowing along the peninsula, maybe foothill expressway and the toll plaza is empty, well, moving smoothly. the approach in berkeley we have a lot of traffic. laura, back to you. we do have breaking news from the north bay we're following as well. a shooting leaving multiple people hurt in vallejo. our news desk has been busy working to get information for you overnight. and now "today in the bay's" jackie ward is live on the scene this morning with the very latest, jackie. what do you know?

>> reporter: good morning. police are staying tightlipped about what happened. all they're confirming with us there are multiple victims after a shooting that happened some time before 10:00 last night in the northern part of vallejo. this happened on cynthia avenue between wendy and amelia streets. witnesses tell us that they believe this was a drive-by shooting. a 4-year-old's birthday party may have been recently held. witnesses say about an hour after the shooting there was a sudden screaming and crying from inside the home. police have not confirmed any of that, though. so we are continuing to press them for details this morning. again, we don't know how many victims there may be or what their statuses are this morning. we're continuing to call police and ask them for that information. we'll, of course, bring you that update as soon as we learn it. jack which waie ward, "today in" oakland police are talking more about the man shot and killed saturday night by officers on oakland's east side. cell phone video capturing the

scene after. now investigators say erik salgado was recklessly driving a car recently stolen from a dealership during looting in oakland. they say that he repeatedly rammed his car at chp officers who then fired, also injuring salgado's girlfriend inside the car. friends are calling it excessive force. >> it doesn't matter what the reason was. i'm sure there were 1,000 better ways to handle the situation than they did. >> police say the car was one of 74 stole friend a san leandro dealership last week. a civil rights attorney john burris is now representing the family. and two major bay area school districts are reconsidering their relationship with law enforcement after the police custody death of george floyd. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live for us with this new story overnight. >> reporter: marcus, later today the oakland board of education will consider a so-called george floyd resolution calling for

disillusion of that district's police depart. if you're not aware the oakland police department has ten police officers and about 50 security officers that they employ. the proposal calls for the money for that police department instead to go towards other positions such as social workers, psychologists and restorative justice practitioners. the proposed resolution reads in part, and i'm quoting, it has become clear the district can no longer sit quietly and deploy its own force amid countless acts of violence particularly against black men and boys, unquote. the chief of the oakland schools police department points out that officers responds to 1,000 calls a semester at the school but is open to a hybrid compromise that would employ his officers and whatever the school district has in mind. the black organizing project will hold a news conference this afternoon in support of the george floyd resolution before the board meets at 5:30 tonight. yesterday the san francisco unified school district considered a similar proposal to

cut ties with police and to end their financial support of the police. "the examiner" reports the district's five-year memorandum of understanding with sfpd is already up for refuel, was already facing resistance and it is now greater in light of what happened in george floyd. no date set for when the board will vote on a new memorandum of understanding with sfpd. bob redell, "today in the bay." protesters taking their message to the streets of oakland and oakland mayor libby schaaf. tonight they plan to call for defunding the oakland police department during a protest happening right outside of her home. in the meantime the city of berkeley plans to prohibit the police from using tear gas. councilmember robinson tweeted the city council made that decision last night. startling new data out this morning showing the number of new covid-19 cases on the rise right here in the bay area.

this has businesses start to slowly reopen their doors. santa clara, contra costa and alameda counties are all reporting double digit increases and the daily cases over the last week. while the number of those cases are going up governor gavin newsom says hospitals in california are better prepared to handle the sick patients and experts tell us that testing and contact tracing will play important roles in controlling the spread of covid-19. >> it's one thing to test a positive case but you want to prevent the on ward transmission and that's something we need to work on. >> also health experts say it's still not clear just yet how nationwide protests will impact the spread of the virus. families struggling in the east bay now have a new resource to help them. family matters is a new shelter created jointly by emeryville and oakland. the building is a former recreation center which emeryville wasn't using to round

up the city, state, and federal money to eventually open the doors. social distancing rules, just ten families will be allowed to move in today. one of the bay area's biggest malls is getting ready to reopen. westfield valley fair will welcome customers monday with modified hours. masks are required and social distancing protocols will be in place. the sun valley shopping center in concord will also reopen thursday. not all stores will be open. santa cruz and monterey counties are lifting restrictions on hotels and vacation rentals starting on friday. give you a chance to get away. a look at what else will be open there. gyms, fitness centers, and swimming pools, also bars and tasting rooms, as well as campgrounds and rv parks. family friendly activities like aquariums, movie theaters, galleries and museums as well.

under the new order santa cruz beaches will stay closed until july 6. they are open for running or walking but not between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. surfing, swimming, and paddle boarding are still allowed. marcus, if you're out for a walk or a hike, i know you like to do that, wear your boots and be careful because rattlesnakes are out. there are reportedly three times the normal amount right now all due to the weather. don't blame it on kari, though. the unusually warm february brought out all the snakes for breeding, also baby snakes will be out soon checking out their surroundings. i'm not a snake fan. >> i think we've all had at least a close encounter with those rattlesnakes. >> oh, yeah. i've had several. >> baby snakes all over.
