soon enough. i'm laura garcia. hey, let's check in with vianey. good morning, mike, to you as well. vianey is in for kari this morning. another hot one ahead of us? it will be but we have the influence of the marine layer creeping along the coast. areas along the coast are going to have a cooldown. still a hot day. walnut creek but i want to show you the current temperatures so you get an idea where we currently stand when it comes to the warming and cooling. we're in the 50s and 60s which is normal for around this time. look at the fog and visibility. we're down to about a mile, santa rosa down to eight miles. we'll continue to see that. i'll talk about what we can expect for the first day of summer in a few short minutes. vianey, talking about that fog and chp advised there may be a problem for visibility because of fog at the golden gate bridge.

they issued the warning overnight. taking a look outside, flashing lights and a little bit of haze in the air. you see there is no south tower. well, it's there but you can't see it. a smooth drive to and from the north bay. fog registeringnorth. again, that live camera. no problems. we'll send it back to you, marcus. thanks, mike. alameda county is taking another big step today towards reopening its economy. "today in the bay's" bob redell, businesses are opening in phases. what businesses will be able to open their doors today? >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus. here today the following can reopen, outdoor restaurant dining. indoor and outdoor retail that includes malls like the san francisco premium outlets behind me in livermore. outdoor museums, outdoor fitness and limited religious and cultural services. take you up to berkeley there, the five little monkeys toy store is readying to reopen after being shut down for three months. the management is asking

customers to reserve shopping time in advance in order to limit the number of people in the store at any one point in time. the store moved displays to create social nd rearranged items to make them more visible. it's not just retail reopening today. churches can resume indoor services, too, as long as they limit themselves to 100 people or 25% of their normal, whatever is less. chinese for christchurch makes sure congregants don't bump into each other. >> being able to sing to pray, to listen to the sermon in person makes a big difference. >> reporter: most stores took their boards down after the george floyd protests, turned parking spots into dining spaces. some plan on delaying outdoor service for a while longtory get ready.

some businesses are still boarded up from the looting a couple weeks ago. reporting live here in livermore, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> all right, bob, thank you. in solano county they're also reopening more doors today personal care salons can reopen. that means pedicures. nail salons, massage parlors, piercing shops and tattoo parlors as well. and sports can resume but without live audiences. a new $50,000 reward is being offered to track down a person who shot and killed a cal student this week. 19-year-old seth smith died. his mother says he was going into his third year at cal. police say he was shot to death at close range. it happened about 10:30 on dwight way east of san pablo in the neighborhood where he lived. smith had just gone out for a

walk. police have few clues to work with. anyone with information is asked to give them a call. a community plans to come together to remember a federal guard killed in oakland. dave patrick underwood was killed last month in a drive-by shooting while on duty. air force staff sergeant steve carrillo is accused of shooting him and another officer. he and another man traveled to oakland with intent to kill police. both suspects are connected to a shooting death in santa cruz county of a sheriff's deputy. several events are happening across the bay area for juneteenth today, the official end of slavery in the united states. and in the south bay there's a march for freedom in santa clara county. and a march starts at 3:00 p.m. at the santa clara university and in the east bay the city of oakland is having a big celebration at lake merritt

amphitheater at 4:00 tonight. new beginnings community church is holding a virtual event at 7:00 p.m. to talk about faith, race, and justice. just like many families, we're a family here, and we're continuing that conversation about race. and marcus washington, very proud of you, you took such a strong lead in continuing our special race in america the conversation last night. >> it is a tough conversation for a lot of people, one i've lived with for all of my life. if you weren't able to see it i talked to quincy phillips, and we talked what it means to be the only color of person in a boardroom and all the weight is on you to push forward the mission. >> if i'm the only representative, the one black dude in silicon valley at that table, then i'm not representing not just black people but the

other folks i'm supposed to represent, community members, community stakeholders. they're not just black, they're brown, they're women, they're lgbtq. there are so many folks i'm representing. if my voice isn't there, if i'm not there it's not going to be talked about. >> you carry that responsibility and you carry it proud, i know you do. you have a lot of passion. there's quincy, we call him q. many people joined us, even people online sharing questions we were actually able to answer online. it wasn't all about problems. we talked about solutions, how to have those conversations and really hearing from each other, being a big part of this moving forward. we always talked about it, laura, being able to listen and understand and open the conversation. >> right. exactly. what i liked, even in my household, we watched it, of course, but then, you know, hearing what other people had to say, it brings a voice to everything. >> absolutely. >> it was great.

for right now frank holland and your business. thank you, mike. here are today's top business headlines. wall street set to open your higher. stocks closing at a flat line as investors dealt with disappointing numbers, unemployment and rising covid-19 cases worrying about stricter quarantine measures to curb the spread and hurting expectations of a smooth recovery. the dow, nasdaq and s&p 500 on track for the fourth positive week in the past five. mcdonald's plans to hire 260,000 workers this summer as states and their dining rooms reopen during the pandemic. they have temperature checks for employees and signs promoting social distancing for customers. mcdonald's removed a number of items including salads and yogurt parfaits to streamline operations. sandwich shot subway is hiring with plans to add 50,000 workers and its $5 foot long deal. americans plan to spend more on dear old dad this year.

and welcome back on this friday morning. 4:46. a live look out in san jose as we get started with the day kicking off the day with cooler temperatures. when i say cooler i'm talking about from yesterday, but it's still going to be a warm one out there. >> it's all relative. >> don't tease us. >> got to find the greatness in a friday. >> it is friday and tomorrow is the first official day of summer and i want to get you started with this great view of san francisco but it showcases that

fog that's starting to roll through. we have a desent amoucent amoun and low clouds are rolling through. doesn't it look mesmerizing? further inland in walnut creek, no fog to worry about. the impact of that marine air mass will keep those temperatures cooler around the coastline and here is a closer look talking about those clouds that rolled in. there it is. you can see the clouds drifting down. in san francisco 56 degrees. concord, 50 degrees. and let's talk about your microclimate highs for this afternoon because marcus said it was going to be cooler and he's right. if you're in inland areas it is going to be pretty hot. so that's a pretty big drop compared to the 90s we saw yesterday in morgan hill. the east bay temperatures, concord yesterday managed to hit a high of 99. today we're going to be about

ten degrees cooler. oakland, 79 degrees. 84 for redwood city. 84 degrees, 87 in novato and how long is this hot weather going to last? the high pressure lingering. we sort of have that little bit of the marine layer coming through right now. if you notice inland temperatures, will stay relatively warm in the 90s and a little bit of a dip in the temperatures by monday, 88. we stay consistent. temperatures will drop down comfortably into the 60s by the weekend. mike? vianey, something to look forward to. that would be an issue for the golden gate bridge. a tiny brake tap that we see.

just past the merge with 580 and westbound the green flow shows a smooth drive to the bay across the bay. 92 now. a lot of traffic. we're talking half moon bay with more businesses open. the last few evenings, in fact. the rest of the bay shows a nice, smooth drive and through the north bay despite patches of fog. do watch out. a live look shows you the only thing we watch for is a nice clear drive. lower those speeds as you travel through the electronic toll gates for everybody's safety. pretty narrow there. new details this morning, california police chiefs are throwing their support behind a plan believed it would help lead to reform statewide.

it includes one plan to weed out bad officers with complaints and would call for periodic checks to make sure they are mentally safe. they could lose training certification if any of those behaviors are flagged. xavier becerra is endorsing a similar plan. the neck restraint used to subdue combative suspects, chief williams says it's the right thing to do as the department focuses on reform. they found 45 recommendations for improvement. now to decision 2020. california one step closer to mailing every active voter a ballot. the state assembly was nearly unanimous yesterday in approving

nbc bay area responds to a sunnyvale couple who took a trip to italy pre-pandemic and took a lot longer than they expected. >> they felt they should be compensated but the airline disagreed so, of course, they turned to consumer investigator chris chmura and his team for some help. >> reporter: good morning.

let's talk about madison and brady. their trip was canceled the day they were supposed to fly. norwegian air didn't get them home until two days later so madison filed for compensation, a savvy move. they have to pay distressed passengers up to $670 ruffle. but norwegian denied madison and said an engine safety inspection called the flight cancellation that was beyond its control and, therefore, ineligible for compensation. madison asked us to take a look, we did. we found those engine inspections have been going on for a couple years now. we asked norwegian why it didn't give the other passengers more notice about the cancellation. we also asked the carrier to reconsider the couple's claim. within three days norwegian agreed to pay them the max, $1,340 u.s. dollars. in a statement they said we apologize it wasn't assessed properly when the complaint was originally submitted. the eu policy that paid off is known as eu/ec 261 that applies

vianey, how is it going to look for mike on his special day coming up? >> he doesn't have to worry about rain, a lot of sunshine. if mike's kids were watching i would recommend getting him a fan because he says he's not a fan of the temperatures in the 90s, and we're going to see that again this 90s. a sneak peek of what we're tracking today. 60s and 70s to start our morning, but it will be about ten degrees cooler in some spots. even then that still leaves us in the 90s. concord a high of 99 degrees. normal highs around 79, 80. above average. i'll talk more about that coming up in a bit. mike? vianey, my kids will be watching because i make them watch the replay every morning. the roads are moving smoothly. a bit of slowing, just a tiny bit.
