move of traffic this morning. he's going to get to that in just a bit. first, we want to talk about the forecast, starting out pretty cool for us today, kari. we know in some places it will heat up. yeah, and that's been the trend we've had, a wide range in temperatures as we start out this morning with a live look outside. we're getting ready for the sunrise in the tri-valley as we check out what's happening in dublin and looking at our temperature trend, we have some upper 50s through the start of the day. if you want to go out for a run, you have some activities to do outside, get out there before noon because then we're already at 80 degrees and 85 degrees at 1:00. you can see how fast the temperatures heat up. as we get ready to reach into the low 90s today we'll still stay in the 60s in san francisco. so we'll talk more about this and what's ahead coming up. mike, you've been watching the roads and you were watching a problem in the south bay. yeah, it's a disabled vehicle. the on ramp to 17. and slowing as we see on the map has cleared up for 87.

there were a couple slower moving vehicles. that's how much impact just a few cars can have with lighter traffic. over here there's more traffic volume, westbound 580. typical slowing out of the alat this month. kari showed you the live look to livermore and dublin. a good amount of vehicles through the area but no real slowing. now the slowing in the altamont, i will track it next through livermore where you see a little slowing for west 84 that will give a good judgment about how we expect the commute to shape up. back to you. new overnight brushfires burning and the fire department says it looks like somebody set those fires on purpose. "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live from kelly park in san jose. they >> reporter: no, and they tell us, kris, the battalion chief tells us this should be a good reminder for anyone setting off illegal fireworks -- i've heard them in the east bay and i know other people heard them elsewhere -- just don't do it

especially given how dry this brush is. so just after 1:00 this morning, between 1:00 and 2:00 this morning, someone set several grass fires here, up to eight around the parking lot for the kelly park disk golf course. a number of homeless people living there. some camp sites were damaged as a result. the fire department put the fires out before they could grow in size and spread which could have happened given, again, the very unusually dry conditions. >> essentially today what we have is feel moisture content levels what we would typically see in october. this is one of the driest juns inside the santa county clara area on record. it makes it dangerous to mix those fire conditions with fireworks and illegal outside burning. >> reporter: no one who lives here was hurt, and the fire

department does not know who set the fires. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." thank you very much, bob. today solano county supervisors will hear from pg&e about what the utility is doing to mitigate some of those intentional power outages that we expect to see this upcoming fire season. pg&e says that it is adding equipment to redirect power so that a third fewer customers will be impacted. also in store shorter shutoff times is the goal to restore power within 12 daylight hours by conducting aerial inspections. pg&e does recommend planning ahead if you're thinking of installing a generator because it i simple process and it's not allowed in all situations. well, president trump today is holding a rally in one of the nation's coronavirus hot spots. this follows saturday's dismal turnout in tulsa and new questions whether he's trying to scale back testing. "today in the bay's" tracie potts is in washington with more on that.

>> reporter: coronavirus is growing in 23 states including arizona where president trump visits the border and hoelds an indoor rally. two campaign staffers who attended saturday's rally have since tested positive. >> i said to my people, slow the testing down, please. >> reporter: the white house says that was a joke though the president said he prefers less testing. >> instead of doing 25 million tests, let's do 10 million tests, we'd look like we're doing much better. >> who thinks like that in the time of a raging pandemic? >> reporter: democrats are asking why $14 billion set aside for testing and contact tracing hasn't been spent. >> what the heck is going on? >> reporter: federal health experts give congress an update today. dr. anthony fauci of nih, the heads of the cdc and fda and the assistant secretary in charge of testing. in advance of testimony they

insist the pandemic isn't going away soon and could get worse this fall with flu season. tracie potts, nbc news. >> thank you, tracie. new details in san jose where police are looking for the woman you see in this video that has gone viral. it shows yet another bizarre intentional act playing on people's fears about the coronavirus. you can see the woman pull off her mask and purposefully cough on a 1 year year boy in a stroller at least three times. this happened ten days ago at a san jose yogurt shop. the boy's mother is talking about what happened. >> my son should not have experienced this, being a baby so young, and i'm pretty sure he will be traumatized from now on. >> the mother says that it all started when the woman complained that she and her son were not properly social distancing, although the video seems to suggest otherwise and it just escalated from there. if the woman is found she may face charges depending on what

authorities decide. the sonoma county sheriff's office is now investigating the discovery of a noose at the sonoma raceway. an employee found that noose hanging in the tree on saturday morning. the raceway's general manager sent the staff an email saying he is taking this very seriously and operates a facility welcome to everyone. he and others who work there at the track say racism is not welcome. >> to show up on our property it's just disgusting. >> you hope that type of mentality isn't around here, unfortunately. obviously it is. >> the discovery comes in the wake of a noose found in the garage of nascar driver bubba wallace. that happened sunday at alabama's talladega raceway. a follow-up now to the laney college professor accused of telling a vietnamese student to anglicize her name to make it easier to say. the series of events that led to the controversy which started with an exchange of emails

between the student and the professor, matthew hubbard, who has since apologized. after he sent phuc bui an unsolicited email that led to more which someone screen shotted and posted to social media. the student says she has always gone by a nickname but she felt ready to use her birth name at laney college where she was taking a virtual math class with hubbard as her teacher. 5:07 this morning. police in alameda say that thieves are targeting atm users, following them home and then robbing them. the latest incident happened last week. this happened when they were going to astraight home after t. she had no idea two young men were chasing her and really going after every move that she made. she says when she got home she went into her garage and then was attacked. >> i turned around and i saw the two young men walk into my

garage. i said, oh, my god. i knew that something was going to happen. >> one of the robbers grabbed her purse, the other took her cell phone. in a matter of seconds they jumped into a dark colored car and sped away. san francisco is accelerating its reopening plans. instead of mid-july the businesses you see right here can now open their doors next monday, june 29th, that includes hair salons and barber shops, nail salons, tattoo parlors, museums, zoos, outdoor bars and outdoor swimming. a similar plan taking effect next sunday, gyms, fitness studios, hair and nail salons can reopen along with indoor dining. the victims of pandemic related job cuts in san francisco may soon receive added protection. supervisors are expected to vote on an emergency ordinance giving certain workers their job back.

>> san jose leaders are trying to provide more helpf for rentes trying to make it in the bay. they will vote on extending the eviction moratorium to the end of july. more outreach programs on how to stabilize their rent during the pandemic. we want to get a look at that forecast starting out nice and pleasant for us. you have been telling us inland areas will see that warm-up again today. >> i guess they're getting used to it. nowo our first full week we will see the heat continue. i love this shot. it matches my outfit for today.

thousands of people to san jose or san francisco, but this year it is virtual. apple showing off its software developers lots of new things including a new operating system called big sur. they name it after something in california. and really cool, fun new things for your iphone. anyone can use these. if you have an iphone 6 or newer. one of the most obvious changes is widgets on your home screen. you can see you can set your personal preference. this person wants to glance at a calorie count and what mousse sikh playing without having to open up an app. when somebody calls you it won't take over the whole screen anymore. you can see simon calling at the top but you can do whatever you were doing on your phone while you talk to him. you can do this now but putting the information at the top makes it easier. and people with a big family will like this, threading on group chat so you can answer a question in a long series of text messages instead of just answering at the bottom which can confuse everybody.

because, you know, theater is so awesome for kids but it is so expensive. and so this is a way for my kids to get hip with what their peers are doing. >> let's have a watch party maybe. >> yeah! i took my husband to see "hamilton" one of the last shows in san francisco, and so it was a very nice. i'm excited that we may be able to watch it at home. >> hey. >> that is cool, yes. date night money versus at home money. >> right. let's get to this forecast in san francisco as we start out this morning. we've seen the low clouds and the fog hanging around. this is typical in june and one of the reasons we had these major micro climates here in the bay area. it's going to keep the city cool along the coastline as well as it remains throughout the day. but then we have heat advisories for the inland areas as you head away from the coast, it's going to be really hot. and that includes solano county,

parts of the north bay from lake and mendocino counties. as you work your way away from the coast in mendocino county as well as we're looking at temperatures that will reach into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees. as we look at where we're headed for today once again the hot temperatures as we go hour by hour we take you through lunch time. some of us are in the mid-80s and we go through 4:00 seeing some 90s in a few spots. notice half moon bay will be at 64, 68 in san francisco. and so with this we are looking at a change in temperatures as you drive across the bay area for today with those light winds that will really start to pick up later this evening. so we'll get a nice cool ocean breeze and then the temperatures will drop down once again back into the 50s as we do it all over again tomorrow. no major changes here. we're going to see this weather pattern continuing throughout the week. some hot weather in the forecast. and then by the end of the weekend those breezy winds start to pick up on sunday, slightly

cooler temperatures. but as we look at the seven-day forecast it seems lik far off because we're in the 90s here as we go through the rest of the week and then the weekend will bring it back to the mid-80s which is still slightly above normal temperatures. and, mike, you've been watching the commute. what's been going on out there? we just started to restore the commute as places started to open up, we're seeing this pattern. an easy drive, more slowing out of the alat this montamonaltamo. we'll get a gauge for the morning commute and we do see the slowing for 84 west out of livermore and in to sunol. it is a mild build but it is there. we will likely see the metering lights on this morning, probably after 6:30. if things go according to plan. we're looking at a different flow as, again, more businesses are opening. people are catching up with work

unbiased. they want to move the case to orange county. the pilot was flying through heavy fog before the crash. vanessa bryant is seeking financial damages. saying farewell to a man shot and killed by atlanta police. after taking off running with an officer's taser. funeral services for rayshard brooks being held at ebenezer baptist church. the officer who pulled the trigger, garrett rolfe has been fired and faces 11 charges including felony murder. video shows him shooting brooks after he fell asleep in a drive-through and failed a sobriety test and was being handcuffed when he struggled to get away. nbc will have special coverage of brooks' you can watch it this morning on "today in the bay," or nbc bay area, at 10:00 this morning. orange county sheriff says he is not enforcing the statewide mandate on face

coverings. the county has nearly 11,000 cases. there have been 269 deaths. the labor federation says the sheriff is not doing enough to ensure that its restaurant and hotel workers are protected. major league baseball owners have implemented a 2020 season. it won't look like the last one, though. this is after they rejected the last offer to renegotiate a deal hastily made in march, an arrangement that led to a lot of bitterness and lawsuits. according to reports 60-game season could start july 24th provided the union signs off today.'ll watch that one for yo. next on "today in the bay," three covid-19 test sites. where you can head to get that service and what you need to know before you go. plus, the all new push being made today to defund an east bay police department. we're all doing our part by staying at home.

moving traffic that we have this morning. we have to talk about that forecast for you. it was a hot one yesterday, kari. and looks like we'll see the same thing in probably some of the same spots. right. it's going to be hot again today for those inland valleys. as we start out with this beautiful sunrise, these early morning hours, that's your time to get outside, as we look for the hills near orinda as that sun comes up this morning. right now we're in the upper 50s to low 60s. we know that for some of us it's going to be hot again today as we reach into the upper 80s and low 90s. a few spots even reaching near 100 degrees. we'll talk more about this spread in temperatures across the bay area and what's ahead. mike, you've b ahead for the mo commute. >> i want to take a look at the peninsula, palo alto, look at all the cars for highway 101. a good volume of traffic. a little glow from lights.

low clouds in the distance. driving is fine on our sensors, no delays. two incidents marking the maps, disabled vehicles just off the main freeway. i did want to show you to the bay bridge no slowing, contra costa county and the maze moves very nicely with no backup at the toll plaza. back over to you, marcus. happening for you today community members in support of eliminating oakland unified school district's police department are hitting the streets to drum up support and they are not the only local district looking to remove law enforcement from inside the schools. "today in the bay's" cierra johnson is live to explain. sierra? >> reporter: yes, good morning. forward with plans to remove law enforcement from their classroom. two bay area school districts, oakland and san francisco, may be one step closer to doing just that. in san francisco today, the

board will vote on how to redirect resources for student services. some include the street violence intervention program and the transit assistance program. now in oakland tomorrow the schoolworkers will vote on the use of police force. oakland unified has their own police department with 120 officers overseeing 100 district properties. now that would mean if the change did happen nearly $2.5 million spent on security and those officers would be redirected. starting this afternoon those in support of the movement will march from eastmont mall. that march begins at 1:00. and that isn't just happening here in the bay. several cities across the country are taking steps to move law enforcement out of classrooms. those cities include chicago and minneapolis. they've already begun the discussion for that to happen. we're live in san francisco. cierra johnson for "today in the bay."

thank you, sieree cierra. the fight for equality in the south bay. the santa clara board of supervisors is set to vote on two resolutions. one officially declares that black lives matter. the other resolution declares racism a public health crisis. supervisor cindy chavez is proposing the resolution and they say it is the first step in moving forward and toward requiring the supervisors to make meaningful reform for the county's criminal justice and social service sectors. mountain view city councilmembers are considering similar resolutions today as well. >> the report card is in for the south bay. the san jose state human institute is introducing the silicon valley pain index, looking at inequality and quality of life. it found only 3% of black employees are working in the top

75 silicon valley technology companies. it will shed light on racial discrimination. the differences in income and opportunity within the county. that group will release more today. and now to our -- now to our total number of covid-19 cases, right now there are more than 20,000 cases and more than 500 deaths in the bay area. alameda county continues to have the highest number of covid patients, more than 5,000. santa clara and san francisco counties have more than 3,000 cases each. >> sorry about that, kris. now we want to talk about the deadly outbreak of covid-19 at a concord nursing facility. so this is according to state data. "the chronicle" report that go 13 people have died connected to confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases at san miguel villa in concord. also, 62 residents and 13

workers tested positive. so far that facility is not commenting to "the chronicle." near nearly 23 have died from covid-19. a free new covid-19 testing site is opening in san jose and it's going to be very easy for you to find because it's at the shark tank. we all know where that is in the south bay. the mascot sharky, in fact, got swabbed himself right on his own home ice. it's a walkup testing site and it's happening from 1:00 in the afternoon until 7:00 in the evening today through friday. more limited hours on saturday. the good news is you don't have to have insurance or a doctor's note and you don'tsymptoms. by the way, if you take the test, you might get a little sharks or san jose barracuda freebie. we like free, marcus. >> we do like free. 5:36 for you this morning. san jose leaders today take another step in the long-term

plan to redesign diridon station. that plan is still in the works. this is along with a plan to build a new google campus in the surrounding area. today councilmembers will debate a resolution bringing various forces together. that includes the vta, cal train and the high-speed rail authority. today's debate also includes a resolution to fund the new alliance. happening today the environmental nonprofit heal the bay releases its 30th annual california beach report, and it isn't looking good for san francisco beaches. in that report six of the city's beaches topped the list in bad grades. the report states that the city has an unusually high number of polluted beaches. more than 500 beaches in the state are graded based on the levels of harmful bacteria found in the water. the full report comes out at 10:00. and this may not be a great day to head to a beach in san francisco because that fog is

going to be lingering around. so if you're hot, go to san francisco. if you want to go to the beach, stay home, right, the hot temperatures for the inland areas, but you can see the reason why it's going to be cool in the city today. that fog to start out this morning. and we're going to see it linger throughout the day and then move right along the coastline while the inland areas will be clear. we're seeing that right now as we take a live look outside in san jose. willow glen, temperatures in the upper 50s and warming up to the low 80s by noon. we make plans to get out there early, look at the range in temperatures anywhere from 100 degrees in clear lake to 61 in half moon bay. e about this and what's ahead. mike, you've been watching the commute. how is it looking? highway 101 north of 680. this is the time we'll see the bump in traffic and slowing.

right now at 5:42 to dublin as the sun rises this morning. we are going to have a comfortable start but quickly warming temperatures once we get all of that sunshine today. and we're going from the upper 50s to 85 degrees at 1:00 today. we'll talk about this, the range in temperatures and what's ahead for the rest of the week in a few minutes. as we've been reporting the fire threat across the state is getting worse. yesterday along the central coast two homes were destroyed. this is in paso robles. four other houses were damaged in the fire that burned at least ten acres. 6:homes we a riverbed. workers at the state assembly are being reportedly told about a colleague who tested positive for covid-19. "the sacramento bee" reports the

legislative employees were told about that infected worker yesterday. that person was in the state capitol during last week's budget proceedings but had minimal interactions with just one co-worker. that co-worker has already been contacted. >> schools, health care, and labor unions are among those breathing a sigh of relief with the state budget deal. it avoids major job cuts despite the $54 billion deficit including a 9% pay cut for state workers and deferred raises for two years. that still needs to be approved before it can be signed into law. if you have been waiting to get things done at the dmv, things are continuing to come back. they're bringing back more of those services. behind the wheel drivers, those tests are starting back up this friday. back in march the dmv canceled

all appointments and closed its doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. the dmv has a backlog of tests. tests will be shorter and everyone in the car must wear a mask. if you've been waiting to get things done -- it might not come as a surprise but the pandemic could be what pushes california's high-speed rail project past the point of no return. the rail project was already in trouble before the outbreak, as you likely know. governor gavin newsom paused expanding it beyond the central valley segment. the rail authority is pushing ahead, though, recently receiving a no confidence vote from legislators. "the chronicle" reports there are more funding measures despite california's budget deficit. now to decision 2020 and the presidential race. joe biden is teaming up with former president barack obama to

raise money for biden's presidential bid. a fund-raiser will be held later today. that announcement comes just hours after biden says his campaign has raised $81 million. this was just last month. biden's strongest event -- meanwhile, john bolton's tell-all book comes out today. >> scott mcgrew, we probably know what he needed to know already, right? yeah, i think everybody knows what's in the book at this point. enough people have gotten the book that i think we know the big thing. one of the biggest bolton said president more american farm goods to help president trump win the next election. bolton, of course, speaking out in that interview and keep in mind bolton is not some liberal. he is a conservative's conservative.

in the north bay where we are going to have some hot weather in some of these spots where we don't see the fog and we're also going to have the advisories kicking in once again for sand mendocino and these ar areas that will have some dangerous heat and makes it really dangerous to work outside or be outside for long periods of time. let's go microclimate by microclimate. upper 80s and low 90s. in the east bay a few more 90s on the map. as you work your way away from the bay as we see the highs in pittsburg reaching 93 degrees. fremont, 89. and in oakland today not too bad there with some mid-70s. then we see some low 60s in half moon bay. you'll see low to mid-80s there and upper 60s in san francisco.

the north bay will see up to 100 degrees in clear lake. so we're going to see still high pressure and hot weather in the forecast over the next several days. but then by the end of the weekend we'll see changes ahead as the storm system passes to the north bringing in breezy winds. we will see a drop in our temperatures by a few degrees. a lot of 90s headed our way. by the week it's starting to feel better. how is it looking? it's looking really good right now. it's tuesday so we expect more traffic flow than yesterday where we didn't have any metering lights at all in the morning. we still show a lighter volume of traffic but you see folks are slowing coming to the camera. a slower drive through the toll plaza. the map shows you slowing on the sensors, just a tad bit there. also out to the tri-valley slowing for 84.
