climates coming up. you've been watching all of our bay area roads. how is it looking? volume increasing a bit so a little more slowing but there's not the stackup on the approach and no metering lights. look at the map. no slowing other than that except for in san jose, the bottom of the screen where things are starting to ease up even in the last couple of minutes. back to you. new overnight, brushfires burning in the south bay. investigators say the fires were set on purpose. bob redell is at kelly park. the fire department says this is really dangerous given the conditions we're in right now. >> reporter: dangerous anytime of the year but especially now, kris. the battalion chief tells us for the people lighting off illegal fireworks -- i hear them in livermore where i live, other people have heard them throughout the area -- just don't do it given how dry this

brush is and what happened last night in kelly park. some time after 1:00, around the 2:00 hour, someone set several grass fires, possibly up to eight fires around the parking lot for the kelley park disk golf course. a number of homeless live there. some camp sites were damaged but the fire department put the fires out before they could grow in size and spread which could have happened begin the dry conditions we're seeing right now. >> essentially today we have field moisture content levels, what we would see in october this is one of the, as far as we know, driest junes inside of the santa clara extremely dangerous to mix those fire conditions with fireworks and with illegal outside burning. >> reporter: again, the san jose fire department was able to put out the fires at kelley park.

no significant damage. no one was hurt. the fire department does nowitzki wknow who set these. 6:02 for you this morning. president trump today is holding a rally in one of the nation's coronavirus hot spots following saturday's dismal turnout in tulsa and new questions about whether he's trying to scale back testing. "today in the bay's" tracie potts is live for us in washington with those details as well as anticipation ahead of today's testimony from america's top doctor, dr. fauci. >> reporter: exactly, and others who say this coronavirus pandemic is not likely to go away soon. president trump is likely to talk about it when he heads to arizona today which is one of nearly 2 dozen states where the virus is spreading. coronavirus is growing in 23 states including arizona where president trump visits the border and holds an indoor rally today. two campaign staffers who

attended saturday's rally have since tested positive. >> i said slow the testing down, please. >> reporter: the white house says that was a joke. the president told cbn he prefers less testing. >> instead of doing 25 million tests, let's do 10 million tests, we'd look like we're doing much better. >> who thinks like that in a time of a raging pandemic? >> reporter: democrats are asking why $14 billion set aside for testing and contact tracing hasn't been spent. >> what the heck is going on? >> reporter: federal health experts give congress an update today. dr. anthony fauci of nih, heads of the cdc and fda and assistant secretary in charge of testing. in advanced testimony all four insist the pandemic isn't going away soon. and could get worse this fall with flu season. now president trump tweeting what he also said in interviews

that if we did less testing we did less fewer positive cases and underscore what he said at the rally saturday that the white house in his campaign said was a joke. back to you, marcus. tracie potts in washington, thank you. new details this morning, san jose police are looking for the woman you see in the video here that has now gone viral showing a bizarre incident in which she coughed on a baby. you can see the woman pull off her mask and purposely cough on that 1-year-old boy in a stroller. police say she did it at least three times. only now is the mom comfortable talking about it. >> my son should not have experience this had being a baby so young. i'm sure he will be traumatized from now on.

>> the woman complained she and her son were not properly social distancing from her, although the video seems to suggest otherwise and then it all escalated from there. if the woman is found, she could face charges depending on what the authorities decide. the discovery of a noose at sonoma raceway. an employee found the noose hanging in a tree saturday morning. the general manager sent the staff an email saying he is taking this incident vep seriously and operates a facility welcoming to everyone. he and others who work there at the track say racism is not welcome. >> it's just disgusting. >> you hope that type of mentality isn't arp here. unfortunately, it is. >> the discovery comes in the wake of a noose found in the garage of bubba wallace sunday at alabama's talladega raceway. following up for you now on the suspended laney college

professor who asked a vietnamese student named phuc bui to anglicize her name. the "l.a. times" breaks down the series of events. it started with an exchange of emails between her and the professor matthew hubbard, who has since apologized. someone screen shotted the emails and then posted those on social media. the student says that she has always gone by a nickname but felt ready to use her birth name at laney college where she was taking a virtual learning math class this summer which hubbard is the teacher. police in alameda say that thieves are targeting users following them from the atm back to their homes. the latest incident happened just last week. after doing some bankingng men

casing her every move. when she got home she went into her garage and was attacked. >> i turned around and i saw the young men walk into my garage. i said, oh, my gosh. i knew that something was going to happen. >> one of the robbers grabbed her purse, the other her cell phone. in a matter of seconds they jumped into a dark colored car and then justy scary. >> it is scary indeed. i'm glad that she is okay, though. a look at the forecast this morning. kari hall has been tracking that. we need to expect some higher temperatures again today. >> yes, for those inland areas. we see the reason it will be sa this june gloom that we are seeing that persistent fog that will stay here throughout the day and also keeping it cooler.

it will start out cool but then warm up quickly away from the fog in concord. we'll go from 60 degrees at 7:00 to 80 degrees at noon and continuing to climb from there as we get ready to see the high temperatures reach 93 degrees today. and as we head to the north bay, 100 degrees in clear lake, so we are going to have temperatures all over the place depending on where you are. we'll talk more about this and what's ahead. mike, how is it looking for the commute right now? it's changing in different spots, kari. we're looking to the maps. we're going to show you the south bay. the arrow shows you where there was a lot of slowing and it's almost gone now. talk about the first burst, the only burst. it stuck around longer than i anticipated. folks are now pausing in the

let's go to the south bay on this tuesday morning. right now 6:13. we take a live look outside. a few clouds overhead and a nice, refreshing morning for the bay area as we get ready for another hot day, temperature trend in the upper 80s already by 2:00. we'll talk more about this and what's ahead for the rest of the week coming up. and a nice look at the san mateo bridge westbound on the right is our travel in the commute direction heading to the peninsula, a smooth drive. you have company here. we're watching the build of the bay bridge. we'll show that to you coming up. first here is scott. well, good morning, mike. a very good tuesday to you as well. apple's worldwide developers conference continues today. normally this would attract thousands of people in san jose or san francisco. they hold it in both places. this one, though, is virtual. apple showing off software developers lots of new things

including new software fnamed bg sur amt after a location in california. iphone. anybody can use these if you have an iphone 6 or newer with the software update. the biggest change are the widgets on your home screen. this person wants to be able to glance at a calorie count and what music is playing without having to open up the app. when somebody calls you it doesn't take over the whole screen. you can see simon is calling at the top. you can do whatever you were doing on your phone while you talk. you can do it now but it makes it easier. people with a big family will like this threading on group chat so you can answer a specific question in a long series of text messages instead of answering at the bottom. you've probably run into this. one person asks what are you

bringing and another what time does it start. she can answer the specific question and make things easier. the white house solving a problem created by the nation's top trade representative said the trade deal with china was off. >> given everything that's happened and all the things you just listed, is that over? >> it's over, yes. >> the white house now walking that back saying, no, no, the trade deal is still on. navarro misspoke. another sign of bad coordination of messaging coming out of the white house. kris and marcus, you were introduced earlier to this woman melanie perkins. this video from when she stopped by our studios in 2013. she started a company in australia. when she landed her first round of venture capital she came on our television show "press: here." this week another round of funding and that puts the overall value of her company at

in hazardous waste containers and not flush them. >> i'm going to tweet that list so you can look at your hand sanitizer collection. something good, the original big screen batman could be making a return. there are rumors that michael keaton is in talks to return as the caped crusader for the new flash movie. keaton last played in 1992 "batman returns." the new movie is said to involve not just time travel but interdimensional travel as well which is something we certainly wish we could do when there's a lot of traffic, mike. >> like a genie, blink. >> interdimensional. >> wait until they get a load of me. remember that one? >> that's a good one. >> classic. all right, let's get a look at the forecast. meteorologist kari hall has a look from san francisco. so this is one of the spots that's not going to see the high

temperatures today. right. it stays in the 60s pretty much all day even when we see spots like soma clearing out for a little while, the fog will be right there hovering over the golden gate bridge that will keep it cool in the city. meantime for the inland areas starting out with some sunshine. as we take a live look outside near pleasant hill we will see those temperatures warming up for those inland areas. but take a look at where we are now. the early hours the best time to get outside for doing some yard work. if you're working outside today try to get as much done as you can before noon, and then our temperatures will go from the upper 50s to the triple digits in a couple of spots. most of us for the inland valleys will be in the 80s and 90s. we're up to 89 degrees in san jose and 92 in concord. san francisco once again stays in the 60s today. we're in this weather pattern with high pressure and a very weak ocean breeze that doesn't make it to the inland areas.

and so that's the reason we had these micro climates in full effect. as we go into the weekend, a change in our wind direction and weather system moving in from the north will bring in more gusty winds and a cooldown in our temperatures. we still have to get through this workweek. here we are on tuesday. we make it through friday we're still in the 90s. saturday and sunday it's starting to feel better. while san francisco keeps those cool temperatures in the low 70s for the next several days. mike, you've been keeping an eye on the roads. any new issues coming up? we'll start with a look at the bay bridge toll plaza because you do see the backup there and i've been watching it build. i called for the metering lights turning on around 6:45 today, but i could be wrong. it might be earlier. whatever the case, whatever lane you're in, you have to pause. as we look at the maps, the exception is the hov lanes there. so if you bring two or more friends you can get across with three in the car without waiting. no wait getting there through

6:24. welcome back to you. new details for you this morning. attorneys for the pilot of that helicopter that crashed killing kobe bryant and eight others are asking to move that trial out of los angeles, so they say according to the new court papers, they argue that bryant, so beloved in los angeles, it would be impossible to find a jury to be unbiased. lawyers want to move that case to orange county. the pilot was flying through the heavy fog before the crash. kobe bryant's wife, vanessa bryant, is seeking financial damages. mourners will say their final farewell to the man shot and killed by an atlanta police

officer. that man took off running with the officer's taser before he was shot. funeral services for rayshard brooks will be held at ebenezer baptist church. that's the plan today. the officer, garrett rolfe has been fired and faces 11 charges including felony murder. video shows rolfe shooting brooks after responding to a call that he had fallen asleep in a fast food drive-through. brooks failed a sobriety test and was being handcuffed when he managed to get away. nbc will have special coverage of the funeral and memorial service and you can watch it on nbc bay area at 10:00 this morning. developing out of southern california for you that morning, ventura county deputies arrested three people caught on camera destroying a black lives matter signs. one works for the sheriff's heoffi same sign, so the owner set up a camera. deputies say they recognized their co-worker cutting the sign

down with a knife on two separate occasions. decision 2020 now primaries are being held in kentucky and in new york today. both were delayed because of the pandemic. representative eliot engel against jamal bowman. in kentucky mitch mcconnell's democratic opponent will be decided. >> orange county sheriff says he is not enforcing that statewide mandate on face coverings. the county has nearly 11,000 coronavirus cases, up 175 since sunday. there have been 269 deaths there. orange county union says the sheriff is not doing enough to ensure its restaurants and hotel workers are protected. the sheriff says that a lot of it really comes down to financing. >> i've been asked to enforce it, i've told them that i will not. i don't have the resources coun.

mic there. we'll get back to that, try to get back to that in a bit. kris, why don't you take it over from here? all right, so also happening today a potential landmark moment in the fight for equality in the south bay. santall vote on two resolutions one officially declares black lives matter. the other declares racism a public health crisis. supervisor cindy chavez is proposing it. the first step in requiring the supervisors to make meaningful reforms to the county's criminal justice and social service sectors. a mountain view city councilmember will discuss a similar resolution on black lives matter today. happening today as well the san jose state human rights institute introduces its silicon valley pain index. this is looking at the inequality and quality of life for santa clara county. the initial index finds just 3%

of black employees are working in the top 75 silicon valley technology companies. organizers say that the index will shed light on racial discrimination and differences in opportunity and income. and now continuing our coronavirus coverage, there are now more than 20,000 confirmed bay area cases, more than 500 people have died. alameda county continues to lead the way with new cases now topping out at 5,000 total. also this morning -- at 6:34 for you, more about the deadly outbreak of the coronavirus at a concord nursing facility. so according to the state data "the chronicle" reporting 13 people have died connected to confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases. this is at san miguel villa in concord. also, 62 residents and 13 workers tested positive. so far that facility not

commenting. nearly 2,300 people at similar facilities across the state have died from covid-19. well, there is a new free testing site in the south bay, and you don't have to worry about scrambling to find it because it's at the shark tank. if you live in the south bay, you know exactly where that is. sharky himself, the san jose sharks mascot, he got swabbed for coronavirus on his home ice. they had to probably get a bigger swab for that one. the walkup testing at the shark tank is happening from 1:00 this afternoon until 7:00 in the evening today through friday. there are more limited hours on saturday, but you don't need insurance. you don't need an appointment and you don't have to be showing symptoms. if you take the test, by the way, you get a little sharks or san jose barracuda freebie. now we want to get back to that debate that a lot of people are talking about, removing police officers from school systems, moving them out of the

schools. crow air cierra johnson? >> reporter: good morning, marcus, as many of the protests continue across the country some cities are actually taking the step forward to remove law enforcement from classrooms and two local bay area school districts are one step closer to doing just that. now today in san francisco, san francisco's unified board will vote on whether to end its relationship with sfpd as well as how to redirect those resources for student services. some of those services include the street violence intervention program and the municipal transit assistance program. now in oakland tomorrow the school board will vote on their use of police force. oakland unified has their own police department with 120 officers overseeing 100 district properties. if they were to remove those law enforcement officers that would mean nearly $2.5 million spent on security and those officers

would be redirected. so starting this afternoon those in support of that move to remove officers in oakland will march from eastmont mall to the youth june rising building on and that march begins at 1:00. and this isn't just happening across the bay. as i mentioned it's happening in cities across the country including chicago and minneapolis, both of those cities have already begun the conversation to remove law enforcement officers from their classrooms so, of course, this is a story we will continue when the votes happen. we will bring them to you on air and online. i'm live in san francisco, cierra johnson for "today in the bay." >> thank you, cierra. also happening today the heal the bay will release its beach report and our northern california beaches aren't faring very well. they are making the bad grades in this report. more than 500 beaches in the state are graded based on the level of harmful bacteria found

in the water. that full report comes out at 10:00. we're going to look more closely at that one. in the meantime we want to check the beach forecast with meteorologist kari hall. and i'm just going to go out on a limb and say it's going to be foggy all day. yeah, pretty much. we're going to see that fog near the coast keeping it cool there. meanwhile the inland areas will not catch a break today. that heat advisory picks up again today for solano county, lake and mendocino counties here in the bay area as we are going to see the heat continue today as these temperatures reach into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees. for us as we're starting out with this live view and a nice sunrise in the tri-valley, our temperatures will go from the low 60s to the upper 80s and even hotter as we go into the rest of the day. mike, you've been keeping an eye on the roads. and you gave us help by showing us the traffic live in dublin.

reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." thank you, bob. later today solano county supervisors will hear from pg&e about what the utility is doing to make those planned power outages during fire season a little less painful for all of us. pg&e says it is adding equipment to redirect power so about a third fewer customers will be impacted. also in store, shorter cutoff times with the goal of restoring power within 12 hours and they're doing that by adding to their aerial inspections. pg&e recommends planning ahead if you're thinking of installing a generator because it's not that simple and they're not allowed in all situations. now to decision 2020 and the presidential biden teaming up k obama to raise money for biden's presidential bid. they raised $81 million last

"the daily mail" reports they are no longer handing out tickets online after it was fooled into thinking the rally would be so big it built an outdoor stage only to have about 6,800 people show up. today's rally will be at a church and the pastor and the facilities director have posted a video to youtube claim they have new technology that will remove coronavirus out of the around of the church so everybody today will be perfectly healthy. >> and it kills 99.9% of covid within ten minutes. >> ionization. >> ionization of the air covid cannot live in that environment. >> 99% of covid is gone. >> killed. >> if it was there in the first place.

that june gloom, those low clouds, fog, mist and drizzle and it keeps the temperatures today mostly in the 60s. it's sunny and the temperatures heat up fast. a live look in lafayette as we are starting out with that live look at highway 24. now as we get through the day we're going to see temperatures for the inland valleys away from that coastline starting to warm up n. livermore at noon we're at 86. 77 in novato. notice the half moon bay in the mid-60s and will be comfortable for the inner bay. and then right over the hills and see temperatures in the low 90s. the coastal areas will stay in the 60s and 50s but it should cool off for all of us if you're making plans to go out for a walk right around sunset. this is the same weather pattern we'll see throughout the week as

high pressure creates some hot temperatures for the inland valleys and then by the end of the weekend some cooler and breezy conditions pick up. we'll see the temperatures coming back down a few degrees. we're still in with the 90s throughout the rest of the week and our inland areas will have hot temperatures. looking a little bit better but we're still above normal and in san francisco we're going from the upper 60s to low 70s to more sunshine as we go into the week. how is it looking for commuters? at the bay bridge toll plaza it's slow. expected but in the summer even on a tuesday we get a break. not today. metering lights are on and the backup. folks are moving in most lanes but even the hov lanes. no incidents reported as far as i can see.

this morning. new details for you. san jose police are looking for the woman you see right here in this video showing what seems to be an intentional act playing on the fears of coronavirus. you see the woman pull off her mask and purposely cough on a 1-year-old child in a stroller, a little boy. police say that she did it at least three times. it happened ten days ago in a san jose yogurt shop. the boy's mother now talking about what happened. >> my son should not have experienced this, being a baby so young. i'm pretty sure he will be traumatized from now on. >> the mother says it all started when the woman complained that she and her son were not properly distancing although video suggests otherwise. it escalated from there. if the woman is found she may face charges depending on what authorities decide. the sonoma county sheriff's office is investigating the discovery of a noose at sonoma raceway.

an employee found the noose hanging in a tree on saturday morning. the raceway general manager sent a staff email saying he's taking this incident very seriously and operates a facility that is welcoming to everyone. and the victims of pandemic related job cuts in san francisco may soon get some added protection. supervisors are expected to vote today on an emergency ordinance giving certain workers the right to get their jobs back. this would apply when former companies start rehiring for the same position or a similar one. san jose leaders are trying to provide more help to renters struggling to make it in the bay. the city council will vote on extending the eviction moratorium to the end of july. the council will vote on more outreach programs on how to stabilize their rent during the pandemic. now a look at that forecast. if you want to be cool, you might want to head to the coast.

if you like it toasty, stay where you are around the bay. yeah, those inland areas will heat up again today reaching into the low 90s. we're going to see more of that through the weekend, slightly cooler for the weekend while san francisco will be in the upper 60s today. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> kari, the bay bridge toll plaza, let's get out there and see the hov lanes were moving very well and slowed down. i think somebody may be moving a vehicle out of lanes there although chp has no reports for a stall. things are lining up at the toll plaza. in san jose we had that late slowing, it looks like it's starting to lighten up. the last 45 seconds has seen traffic moving much more smoothly. it is traffic tuesday but it's the summertime. i think it's lightening up already. that will do it for us this morning. we do want to leave you with a
