meteorologist kari hall who is dealing with a lot of fog throughout the bay area this morning. especially along the coastline. inland areas won't see too much of that and that's the reason the temperatures heat up quickly as we head over to the tri-valley starting out with a look at the temperatures in the upper 50s throughout the next couple of hours. and then we see that trend going straight up as we get ready for another hot day. we'll reach up to 82 degrees at 1:00 and our temperatures jumping several degrees an hour as we go into the afternoon as we get ready for highs to reach 93 degrees. for the coastal areas still nice and cool as that fog remains there today. we'll talk about the spread in temperatures and a cooldown for us all heading into the weekend coming up. mike, you've been watching the roads, and it looks like that one trouble spot is clearing up. that's right. no longer an alert for fairfield and i'll show that you closer coming up. i did want to show you a close-up of the golden gate bridge across the bay easier. kari is talking about the fog,

francisco unified voted to no longer partner with the police department according to sfgate.com. the state's superintendent of public instruction will announce how california is going to re-evaluate the role police should play on campuses throughout the state and how that presence might negatively affect students. incidentally the school board will vote later this afternoon on whether or not to dissolve its officers and replace them with peacekeeping ambassadors. yesterday hundreds of parents and students rallied to convince the board to say yes to this proposal. steve kerr also led his voice to the movement, which he describes as a real reckoning for america. >> to me this is what it's about, you have to learn and understand what's happening out there. >> there have been some corrales for counseling, calls for trauma services.

>> reporter: yesterday los angeles school district board voted against a similar proposal to slash its police department budget. some board members voted no because they said there wasn't an alternative plan to ensure the safety of their students. bob redell, "today in the bay." now to the coronavirus concerns sweeping the country and the bay area. nearly 21,000 cases here. 538 people have died. santa clara county reported 122 new cases and more patients hospitalized. in the meantime there are added concerns in the north bay as well. sonoma county saw its largest single day increase since the pandemic began and some were specific members of the community. bay by's cierra johnson joins us

live with what health leaders are saying. good morning, cierra. >> reporter: yes, good morning. health officials here in sonoma county on high alert after they reported 50 new corona cases on monday alone. that's a 36% increase from the day before. shifting to two specific communities. skilled nursing facilities as well as the county's homeless population. now according to "the press democrat" the recent spike in cases is due to community spread. the county's health officer highlighting an unnamed business that provides services to the homeless and an unnamed nursing facility. now that paper reports health officials are working to contact those who tested positive to determine who they may have come in contact with and are working to relocate some of those homeless individuals to alternative shelters like community centers and this major outbreak comes one week after a smaller outbreak was traced to a

winery here in sonoma county. three people tested positive. they did not have contact with the public. cierra johnson for "today in the bay." new for you this morning, nascar driver bubba wallace is speaking out on the "today" show and still believes a noose was left in his garage, this is despite what the fbi found. the fbi investigators determined that there was no hate crime. this is when a rope was spotted in wallace's garage at the talladega speedway in alabama. investigators say the rope had been in the same stall for months. this is since at least october. a previous team said they used the rope to pull the door shut. this is wallace. >> it, in fact, was a noose, not a functioning noose, but it was a noose. whoever had the time to create that and tie it up like that, they were skeptical about it.

first by driving the black lives matter car and then he was asking nascar to ban the presence of the confederate flag at all racing tracks. the head of antioch's police union is in hot water over comments he made on his personal facebook page. the east bay times says it's prompting a protest later today. now the post from union president had to do with a meme showing a protester giving the middle finger to a police officer. he replied, i believe an open face flap is appropriate. the meme and comment have been deleted. he's since clarified it was taken out of context and he would never promote violence on anyone.

protesters are calling for his resignation. leaders admit change will come with a lot of time and effort. police unions typically resist, saying it may hurt an officer's promotion. one police commissioner believes there's still room for middle ground to be found. >> this is a time we should move forward with unsealing records. >> they tell us the new city contract is on the table. more transparency will likely be a focal point. there is a catch may help with the guidelines. one of the provisions gives governor newsom the right to withhold social safety net funding for any county that does not comply with state or federal

rules including his recent statewide mask order. critics blast it as a one size fits all mandate. they reached a deal monday but it still has to be approved. one week from today contra costa county takes a big step in its reopening process. bars, gyms, indoor dining, hotels, arcades and bowling alleys will have the green light to reopen. nail waxing and massage salons can we open and indoor dining can resume. 85 more cases were reported in the county yesterday bringing that to more than costa county alone. palo alto leaders have followed through on some major budget cuts they were looking at. palo alto online reports councilmembers this week agreed
