officers on social media, made in a closed facebook group by current and former san jose police officers. the mayor released a statement saying in part, racist anti-muslim or menacing comments expressed by any current sjpd officer will be met with termination. the chief weighing in, while i have no control over what former employees post online i can voice my outrage after hearing about these comments made online. any current employee involved with bigoted activity online will be promptly investigated and held accountable to the full extent of my power and we have no place for this. there is a zero tolerance for such behavior, paul kelli. >> the san jose police officers association will provide you no shelter and no protection. we will not represent you because you do not represent us.

anxiety for a lot of people. some planes are filling planes again, meaning no more mandatory seats and some offering a compromise thinking it's too soon. >> reporter: american airlines says it's going to full flights starting next month. most passengers we spoke to said they're not ready just yet. >> i think at this point i would try to stay on the less crowded flights. >> reporter: they will have that option. american and united both say they will offer passengers a chance to switch free of charge from a full flight to a flight with fewer people if they want. >> simple. >> reporter: how so? >> so we can maintain some level of social distancing and still be safe while we get where we're going. >> reporter: it's a common conversation these days as people mask up and try to social distance on board. >> i don't think we will get to

anything reasonable until there's a back seat. >> reporter: while airlines try to gradually boost their bottom lines. >> the big question is the aircraft and cabins, they want you to wear masks, and the cue outside the gates. >> reporter: meanwhile, the allied pilots union is asking the federal government to buy up all empty seats to keep them more empty and paid for by we the taxpayers and be more socially distant. bay area news. as we mentioned the top of our newscast, a change of plans for the san francisco zoo, it will not be reopening next week. mayor london breed held a press conference at the zoo on thursday announcing the facility could reopen along with other businesses. public health officials have since reversed course and brought those plans to a halt. in questions why it's not considered an outdoor museum which are allowed to reopen.

unfortunately, the zoo appears to be categorized with indoor spaces. monday, you will need a reservation to get in. reservation have been required a cowl years now but now hard to get because they're only allowing 50% of people they let in before covid. other changes, ranger tours and marked one-way only and shuttles will not be running. this was santa cruz beach yesterday afternoon. no closures here. after a lot of pressure, they opened their most beautiful asset. the past two months they've been closed during the day but law enforcement says so many people broke the rules it was virtually impossible to enforce it. this is good news to the local beaches and business owners

>> reporter: to be successful, a non-profit has to have more than good intentions. they have to have managers who can take ideas and scale it and make it sustainable. lately, they have proved they have the willingness in an instant to do it differently. it is 7:00 a.m. on a friday and the first of what will eventually be 300 cars, are already in line. in them, people whose lives have been turned upside down by the pandemic. now relying on a non-profit which had to turn itself inside-out to help. >> we are so lucky and fortunate and blessed to be able to do what we're doing right now. >> reporter: the ceo of hunger at home. we profiled yule in 2016 still general manager of the cease-fire convention center. seeing the good food going to waste in the hospitality

industry, yule started hunger at home, taking excesses from businesses that have it and to non-profits that needed it. it was a work flow that worked very well until covid changed everything. >> the hotels started calling and saying, we're having to close, we're shutting down. then it started to become more and more real. >> with no help to provide the prepared food, he scrambled to provide their own. in three months they have given out 400,000 meals. >> it has changed rapidly. >> i think we can get it with onions as well. >> reporter: the former executive chef at levi stadium. one expected benefit is all the hotel chefs now out of work willing to help. the food hunger at home is preparing is truly gourmet.

governor newsom has put certain counties on his watchlist asking them to pause re-openings. these are considered high risk and in need of closer monitoring. two are in the bay area. contra costa and santa clara are at risk of significant hospitalization. >> the increase in the last few days are disturbing and i ask people to wear these masks when they cannot practice physical distancing and continue to be vigilant. along the mexico border, among the hardest hit. if the leaders in that county don't follow the state's advice, the governor will step in. the surge of coronavirus cases could engulf the entire u.s. some reporters asked vice president mike pence about president trump's decision to

it's racism they faced over the years. >> we all recogni entire health system to a pandemic. >> reporter: the ceo talked to the protesters yesterday. he didn't name the person accused of wrongdoing but says the person in question is no longer working for the hospital. not just statutes and schools but streets. the debate of sir francis drake boulevard continues. for weeks, there have been growing calls and protests like this one demanding sir francis drake boulevard be remained. he is a one time slave trader. this is no small change. it runs through several cities in the north bay. the council held a session for input from the community and no word when they make the decision. president trump is getting tough on vandals, signing an executive order that protects monuments and statutes.

good morning. we are off to a pretty beautiful start although we have plenty of fog around the coast. i want to show you this at hayes valley in san francisco. santa cruz mountains with fog. it will eventually start to clear out a little bit. we will get sun peaking through and a mix of sun and clouds throughout the coast. look at the bay. i want to talk about your air quality. we have good air quality, thumbs up on the north bay down to the south bay, comfortable enough for a walk or run. if you live inland, get the run in early in the day because it

will warm up. down through the south, we will be comfortably in 80s, morganar at 87 we will only be in the 70s here, red road city, 77. daly city, 63. and san francisco with a high of 64 degrees. right now, winds are 14 miles an hour in the north. we will see 80s today and 90s in ukiah and clear lake. you have a wide variety of choice, depending on what temperatures you want, travel a few miles to get there. let's talk about the hour for 4. the dry front cold front starts its way in. look at that. by 6:30 this afternoon, winds in livermore, fairfield and concord will be upwards at 36 miles an hour and even gustier.

by all indications, major league baseball is back. giants begin practicing in the bay area and in july the season starts. but with this new surge in cases and all the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, is this a good idea. we caught up with manager, dave kapler. >> great to have you on the program. i'm a huge baseball fan. how are you feeling about

returning? >> i understand the trepidation and concern. i py share it and know the giants' organization does as well. at the same time, maintaining optimism we're able to get to the ballpark in the next week or so and get together as a group and start this modified camp our coaches and players are excited about. >> buster posey, and others, you talk to your players almost daily. what are your players' concerns? >> i think they share the concerns of the community in san francisco. there are concerns that aren't just covid related as well. mainly right now, guys are looking forward to getting back to the ballpark and playing. we will adhere to the protocols major league baseball is putting together, it's over 100 pages.

it's extremely meticulous. our staff prepared us for this moment. we ran a drill in camp the past couple of weeks and our players were able to stay safe. we had one scare and took them off the field immediately. all our players tested negative and so did several staff members in the building. we're looking forward to getting back to work and doing so safely, ultimately allowing yourselves to smile about the fact of getting back together to play baseball. >> we are excited to have you guys back. one question, you've been actively engaging in the social injustice issues happening around the country. is this something you chat about with you guys? >> absolutely. when we get back together we will touch on three main topics. the first is racial injustice, the fact we have very very clear

systemic racism both at the local level and national level and the world today. we are going to allow our people of color to talk about that. specifically one black player, named davis, who recently wrote a post with joan ryan, that was really really thoughtful. jalen and i discussed the possible of him standing up in front of the group and sharing some of his stories and concerns and basically helping us understand how we can support him and the black community. we will also talk about how staying healthy in this time of a pandemic cannot only be good for our families but also be a competitive match. we will talk about adhering strictly to the protocols, major league baseball put in place and also players and staff as a group to talk about what they experienced the last couple

months, both in quarantine but also a lot of racial injustice that we saw. we won't forget that was front of mind when we get back to baseball. when people are really asking questions about game strategy and player performance. we are still going to keep those issues front of mind and speak up about them as a group. >> you personally, this is your first season as skipper of the giants? are you excited or nervous? what are you feeling? >> a little of everything. today, we had a group call and we were talking about a bunch of our players talking about getting back to work. i walked oracle park several time in the course of the last 10 days, in an effort to see what our modified camp will look like and utilize every nook and cranny of the ballpark. when you're walking the field and talking about a modified camp, the butterflies come up
