berkeley hills. be a slightly cooler day so i don't know if you can see but there are a few cows on the pleasant hill will be in the mid-70s by 11:00. hills as we await the sun rise and we're going to see at times temperatures coming down from over the week, but we do still some breezy winds starting to pick up. have some very dry vegetation we started out with a light and we know there were a lot of wind, cool temperatures, but then as we look at our wind fireworks set over the weekend that sparked those fires. forecast this will make a huge difference in the fight against we're going to talk about that some of those brushfires that and the air quality because of continue to burn especially in the wildfire smoke coming up. parts of the south county. we'll see wind at 10 to 15 miles an hour picking up to about 20 to 25 miles per hour. any issues popping up? we do have one issue that's with a westerly wind it's coming sticking around and has been off the ocean and will bring in there for a while. the traffic flow as we look at higher humidity which may help them out just a bit. the maps shows a smooth drive across the golden gate and the that's somtly bay bridges. cooler due to the stronger ocean none of those bridges, i guess, breeze. looking at all of our high more well known. we'll take you here to the right temperatures for this afternoon, side of the screen. our micro climates in the 60s southbound 160, the antioch bridge. coming in to antioch out of the for san francisco some 70s in north bay. palo alto and low to mid-80s the bridge closed. from the south bay to the east bay and north bay. southbound has traffic reinstated but debris.

have breathing problems. we'll talk more about this and temperatures coming up in a few minutes. 5:03 and switching gears now to our coronavirus coverage. covid-19 cases continue to spike over the holiday weekend santa clara county, you can see right there, still with 5,300 cases. alameda county still the most cases right now with almost 6,900 cases. a look at the overall view of those cases, the new ones within the last 24 hours. you can see santa clara county with almost 200 new cases. alameda county has almost 300 new ones. the counties with dashes, some of those have not been updated just yet. a major setback for reopening businesses in the south bay. the state is rejecting the

request to move into the next phase. quality worsening because of a very light wind. our temperatures will gradually warm up into the upper 70s and the wind will pick up as well. that may help blow the smoke further off to the east. as we lock at our hour-by-hour outlook for our microclimates as we head to noon we will see some fog near the coast keeping it in the 60s there. and then for the inland areas around lunch time we're seeing in spots like concord it will be in the mid-70s and the low 80s and then going into the rest of the afternoon mostly staying in the mid-80s there for our warmest spots. the rest of the week will be a pretty nice week. high pressure staying to the west of us. as we go to the weekend it will start to warm up and we're looking at some slightly warmer temperatures but nothing too

someone pulled up in a jeep, you see right here. moments later a man recorded a video of police pulling over that jeep. >> i have to commend him for not only being on the scene and make sure what was happening and for responding so quickly. they were on him like fast. >> in san jose a black lives matter mural was painted just a block from mayor sam liccardo's home, that stretched three blocks. an emotional plea from the mayor of atlanta after a particularly violent weekend. >> the reality is this. these aren't police officers shooting people on thehe community shooting each other and in this case it is the worst possible outcome.

"today in the bay" continues right now. thanks so us. i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. mike keeping an eye on the commute for us this morning. but we want to start out with meteorologist kari hall with a look at the forecast today. so, kari, dealing with the fires right now, is it going to be a windy day today? the winds will start to pick up later on today, but we are starting out with a very light wind this morning. that's the reason we're getting a the lot of smoke and it's been trapped in santa clara valley as we head out on this monday morning. we take a look at our sun rise, we are seeing some very beautiful colors in the sky because of that smoke but it makes it very unhealthy to be outside. we check on our temperature trend. we have a cool start to the day and a gradual warm-up. in fact, it will be cooler today compared to yesterday. so we're looking at highs for some of our inland areas in the

low to mid-80s with some 70s for the inner bay and some 60s near the coast. we'll talk more about this and our air quality coming up in the microclimate forecast. mike, any issues for drivers heading out the door? a couple of them. it doesn't look like it from our maps but i've circled them. one on the left side, a circle by 101 just off the bay bridge west 80 slows to the fifth or seventh exit. there may be a vehicle in lanes, perhaps a disabled vehicle. also the bridge itself moves smoothly getting over to antioch to the right side of your screen you have slowing on the antioch bridge out of rio vista. we'll point that out better for those not familiar. the rest of the bay does move very smoothly. we'll track that. i know, marcus, you have a big concern for folks. now breaking right now the sout we learn what sparked the brush fire that exploded overnight

near gilroy prompting evacuations. we have team coverage for you this morning on that along with the preparations under way this morning to combat the fire and this upcoming season. let's start in gilroy with "today in the bay's" roz plater. she is there with new details on the crews fire. roz? >> reporter: indeed. we are learning this started with a structure fire. we are with the cal fire folks who are stationed along the road. you see the orange embers, the hilly terrain they are working. some of the pictures from overnight, they have their hands full. cal fire says the fire has extended to some 1,500 acres and is only about 15% contained and at least two homes have been destroyed. we now know it started with a structure fire on crews road just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon. firefighters say the winds had quickly spread the fire to nearby brush and beyond. there is a evacuation

in place for some 25 homes and some of those evacuees tell us they were hesitant to leave at first. >> by the time i got up there, it still looked like i might be okay. i mean, it happened very quickly. it was spreading very fast. >> reporter: now there is better containment on the park fire in morgan hill that started late saturday night and burned more than 300 acres but is now 70% contained. no word on the cause but they were thinking fireworks were a possibility of the start of that fire. in the meantime as these folks wait to see what happens here there is an evacuation shelter set up at the gilroy senior center and we'll give you more information as we learned. for now that's where they are. nobody is back in their homes as of yet. in gilroy, i'm roz plater for "today in the bay." to the north bay and sonoma

county where "today in the bay's" cierra johnson is live. pg&e is preparing to take to the skies to prepare for the upcoming fire season, though it already feels like it's here. tell us what pg&e is doing today. >> reporter: yes, fire season is already here but there are thousands of people working from home. and to do that they will need electric, so folks here in sonoma county -- rather, pg&e in sonoma counselee county is flyid to get an idea how long it will take to repair the lines and will use that information to reduce the amount of times. folks working from home. downed lines were responsible for fires in the north bay. this news comes after a very active weekend. contra costa county in a five-hour period alone, crews responded to a total of 57 fires. the fire you're looking at took place in pittsburg, ten

structure fires and 27 vegetation fires. and in san jose it was much of the same. firefighters there responded to 70 calls related to fireworks alone. several buildings and cars were damaged. and there were more than a dozen grass fires. back out here just to give you an impact of how widespread some of the mandatory shutoffs are last october 940,000 people in 36 counties were impacted by those mandatory shutoffs so the flyover happening in sonoma county this week crucial for everyone to maintain some type of normalcy in a pandemic and during the wildfire season. we're live, cierra johnson, "today in the bay." >> and some of those outages lasted a really long time while pg&e checked the lines before turning them back on. good to hear what the company is doing to try to get things back to normal. thank you, cierra. we're working to learn more about a 6-year-old's death after

he was shot and killed over the weekend in san francisco. this happened about 11:00 saturday night in the 2,100 block of engel street in bayview. officers found the6-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. we've now learned that a man also injured in that shooting. both were taken to the hospital. sadly that boy died. there's no word on any arrests. new for you this morning -- there will be no indoor dining in marin county. just after a week of getting the green light to serve indoors, restaurant owners are being told to close the doors. that option is now temporary, off the table, as of midnight. on friday the county added to the state's watch list. this is after covid-19 numbers did not improve there. restaurant owners say they're trying to find at least a temporary solution. >> we want to do what's safe for

everyone. but we still have to survive as a business, too. for now i think we'll make do with the takeout and outdoor dining. i mean, we'll have to obviously revisit. >> it is expected to last at least three weeks. new this morning, a positive test result is forcing the sacramento kings to shut down the team's practice facility. the kings had been practicing ahead of their trip to orlando to resume their season later on this week. but then somebody tested positive. we don't know if it's a player or a coach or somebody else affiliated with the team. but we do know the kings are the seventh nba franchise to shut down their practice because of a positive test. three kings players did previously test positive as well. got to be flexible.
