temperatures in spots like pleasant hill that will be comfortable. we're in the low 60s. you can see this trend as it goes straight up. reach up to the upper 80s by 8:00 and reach to the mid 90s here. at least we still do have our coastal temperatures. we'll talk about the rain we'll feel going into the weekend, as well. that's coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking right now for the east bay drive? >> it's looking pretty good. a little build for the east bay. let's start with the south bay slowing that we talked about clearing the bottom of your screen and the maps you'll see a smooth drive circled there for north 101 and getting lighter as far as the sensors are concerned. that first burst kicking right on top. the east bay move smoothly with no backup at the toll plaza and a crash maybe blocking one lane and that arrow from livermore in towards sunol and passing the ge plant. one lane blocked and we'll check on that in a few minutes. the chp gets us info and the drive towards the bay bridge is okay with oakland clearing that construction. we'll show you the build coming

up. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 6:01 and following some pretty sad breaking new news. crews resume the search for naya rivera. investigators say her 4-year-old son was found all alone on a pontoon boat that she rented and it's believed that she was not wearing a life jacket, although her son was wearing one when he was found by other boaters. deputies at this point do not suspect foul play. and they have interviewed her son about the incident. we will have a live report later on in this newscast. mayor london breed is sending out an urgent message about her possible exposure to covid-19 which she says happened when someone knowingly tested positive came to one of her events. she said she was told about the possibility by the director of public health and she'll be self-isolating for ten days. you'll hear from the mayor in our next half hour. governor gavin newsom

coronavirus watchlist is growing each day. there are now four local counties listed. napa, contra costa, marin and sola solano. jackie ward joins us live and, jackie, no more indoor dining there for now. right? >> right. that starts today for all restaurants and wineries in napa county starting just a few hours ago at midnight, actually. this will be in effect until at least july 30th. this is because napa county's public health department says that cases are on the rise there. in fact, they've increased 45% since june 26th and 376. the cases are linked to a conlig situation and he says it's hard to constantly navigate these change changes. >> it's crazy. you know, all over the place.

we were allowed to have people in and going to have people sitting outside. as you can see, we have five tables to work with and that's it. >> napa is just one of a growing number of counties the governor has on a watchlist as they reopen and cases rise. that list is now up to 26 counties including contra county, marin and on the list for three days and economic reopening and exactly like we're seeing. jackie ward, "today in the bay." >> thank you, jackie. 6:04 now and getting a work out in the south bay is going to look very different when gyms reopen next week in santa clara county. bob redell joins us live and a lot of people waiting for this news and now they're waiting to hear what it is going to be like. >> well last night santa clara county released the requirements

to the rule that gyms must follow in the south bay when they reopen monday. take a look at your tv screen. among the requirements, this applies to people and you can't use the cardio machines. that includes treadmills, ellipticals and bicycles. everyone wants to wear a facial covering even when exercising. you'll have to reserve a designated time to work out and many areas besides the gym will be closed including indoor pools, locker rooms and saunas. free weights and yoga classes will still be allowed. gyms have already opened in other parts of the country. in may florida and texas allowed gyms to reopen with limited capacity. but as the corona cases surge in both those states, some parts of the south are now pausing their reopening plans. in florida, specifically, miami-dade county, for example, closed gyms but later one day later reversed course saying the fitness centers could only stay open with certain safety precautions in place. the owner is requiring all

guests to wear a mask. that's an example i'm giving you there and just like santa clara county going to be requiring for people who want to go work out. you will have to wear a mask even as you're in the process of exercising. coming up at 6:30, looking to head out of town 580 eastbound or westbound through the sierra nevada. coming up at 5:30 the emergency meeting taking place later today over the latest coronavirus spike in the lake tahoe area. reporting live here in livermore, bob redell, "today in the bay." with just a month ago until the start of the school year in a lot of districts, parents and students across the bay area are still in the dark about returning to the classroom. my kids included. that is because a, including te association president says there are a lot of mixed opinions from teachers on whether they feel it is even safe to return. >> we cannot go back until we

know not saying it's safe, but until it's safe. it has to be measures in place for us to go back into school. >> so, while county health departments are lying out the guidelines the school district in the state have to come up with their own individual plan. tonight san mateo school ti district is holding a meeting about its plan. at 6:30 they'll give an update on the discussion of options, including alternating weeks, hybrid learning and distance learning. you can find a link at the san mateo foster city school's website and i also put it in my twitter feed. when it comes to making it in the bay, mayor london breed's push to fix homelessness is getting city support. proposed bond to improve parks and fund homelessness and mental health has grown to nearly 500%, i think, is the right video. happening there today.

supporters push their plan to split up san francisco's troubled public works department. supervisor matt hany is spear heading that measure and turn street cleaning into its own department making it, taking it away from public work umbrellas. supporters argue that's how most big cities operate over the past year public works department has been embroiled in scandal, including corruption charges filed against the former department head. now we're going to take a live look at the supreme court in a few hours. there it is. we're expecting the final decision from the latest supreme court decision. that includes two cases involving president trump's financial records. the manhattan district attorney wants access to eight years of the president's business and personal tax records. the investigation is payments made to two women who claim they had affairs with president trump. whether those payments violated state regulation. new this morning, you are not going to see a piece of san

francisco's iconic history return to the city streets any time soon. we're talking about the cable cars. keeping them out of service until the pandemic is over. that is because operators and passengers are j close together and it is impossible to follow social distancing guidelines. and the unfortunate thing for cierra is you got here as the pandemic was still under way, you're not going to be able to ride one fwror a while. >> no, i will not. let's go to meteorologist kari hall talking about a different kind of roller coaster ride, sort of, in our heat department. >> yeah. and we are seeing, yeah, some hot weather that will continue across parts of the bay area, especially in spots like this. we're taking a look at our live view from highland towar beautiful start for the day and at the same time we know we had some brush fires and some smoke coming in and that's what makes

the sunrise and sunset so colorful. as we look at our air quality, pretty good this morning if you're heading out in the trivalley and we see the yellows and the count a little bit higher and moderate smoke pollution coming into berkeley, as well as vallejo and some better air quality for other parts of the bay area. as our temperatures heat up today, we'll have to watch out for more brush fires and also some high temperatures in our forecast. more on that in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> you know, kari, reports of a crash. three vehicles involved in livermore and towards sunol. the map will show you this is where i put the arrow as you cut down from livermore towards sunol on the trivalley. despite the crash, chp is not there yet and one lane blocked and less slowing than we did a few minutes ago. i'm watching that very closely. the dublin interchange is clear. an incident may be on the san mateo bridge and we'll check on that. the bay bridge we'll see the

chapter 11 bankruptcy and close at least 50 stores. united airlines says it may lay off half of its workforce. that's 36,000 people. remember, united is one of the largest employers in san mateo county. senator jeff murkily of oregon says he'll introduce a bill to prevent airlines from selling the middle seat during a pandemic. he tweeted this picture of himself on a crowded american airlines flight. american warned travelers it will be filling airplanes to capacity. it's anticipated a lot of americans will stay at home, work at home and even into the fall because so many school districts are saying they are unsure or they're not going to have a full back to school. i hope you are enjoying my home. i'll be here for quite some time. i appreciate it when you tweet a hello to my dog who comes by every once in a while. it is strange to have a tv camera in your house that's always on.

interior parts of the bay area, it is going to be hot. you might want to cook outside. it keeps from heating up the house so much. as we check out danville, our temperatures reach into the upper 80s here and we may briefly just hit the low 90s. i think you want to have dinner inside in the air conditioning, if you can. but cook outside where it keeps from heating up the house so much. as we look at our temperatures. we're reaching into the mid 90s in concord, as well, as antioch. and then we head up to clear lake where it's in the mid 90s for that high temperature today. palo alto reach into the mid 80s. our weather pattern starting to heat up as that desert southwest heat starts to surge into the bay area. but we do have a weak enough onshore wind flow for the coastal areas to stay cool. but it doesn't help us out in the valleys. this is what it looks like over the next seven days. a lot of 90s here. some mid 90s into the weekend and san francisco keeps those 60s at times that fog very close

expected to resume a short time for now for "glee" actress naya rivera. yesterday afternoon her 4-year-old son was found alone in a boat along ventura county lake. appears mother and son went swimming and she did not get back on the boat. in ten minutes we'll take you live to ventura county where investigators right now are giving an update. breaking news in south korea where there is an all-out search in seoul for the city's mayor who is missing. police are looking for mayor park won-sun. they say his phone was turned off. the mayor's daughter reported that disappearance after she said he left a will-like message before leaving their home and then failed to show up to work today. park is in his third term. now, san francisco mayor london breed is self-isolating this morning and you might say that she is very outraged. this after someone knowingly infected with coronavirus attended one of her events.

"today in the bay" live in san francisco with the mayor's urgent message for the rest of us who are out and about in community, sharon. >> that's right, kris. you know, you'd think by now most people would know to self-isolate if they test positive for covid-19. so, mayor breed is understandably upset that this person didn't do that. mayor london breed showed her emotions in this tweet. in it she says she was told by the director of public health that a person with covid-19 was at an event she attended recently and she may have been exposed to the virus. >> i'm really angry that someone would, you know, be told that they have covid-19. and be told what to do and to defy that request to not only keep themselves healthy and safe, but to keep other people healthy and safe. i could have infected somebody unknowingly.

>> the san francisco public health director views the mayor's exposure low to moderate which means the infected person could have come within six feet of her. but a protective mask help block the exposure. right now monitoring for the mayor and her staff is key. she will be self-isolating for ten days. now, meantime, the atlanta mayor keshia lance bottoms took to social media earlier this week with the news that she tested positive for covid-19. in her tweet she indicated that she is asymptomatic. a health expert is reminding us that if we feel we may have been exposed to the coronavirus if you've been out and about for the fourth of july weekend, some indicators may be that you have a fever. you feel feverish or you can't smell your coffee this morning because you can lose your sense smell if you are positive with the coronavirus. so, he says those indicators may tell you should get checked out for the coronavirus. reporting live in san francisco, i'm sharon katsuda. >> thank you very much, sharon. tough time for the mayor.

all right. pingaly center seton medical one them open. the ap analysis found the state is only able to come up with 20% of the $252 million cost to run the facilities through may and it will cost $1 billion to keep those hospitals open through the spring. happening later today, lake tahoe leaders will hold an emergency meeting. the popular vacation spot for bay area residents is seeing a new surge in covid cases. today in the bay bob redell is live in livermore along interstate 580 where people routinely make their way to lake tahoe. bob, what does that mean if you have upcoming plans to that area? >> well, good morning, cierra. no one is suggestinike back in march where parts of the sierra nevad tourists to stay away because

they wanted to stop the spread of covid-19. but the lake tahoe area is seeing a spike in cases after last weekend's fourth of july celebration. it's caused enough concern that later today the eldorado county board of supervisors they're going to hold an emergency meeting to discuss precaution and possible next steps. a county spokesperson tells "the sacramento bee" that they blame the surge on tourists and businesses not following the social distancing and mask recommendations last weekend. they also believe that the trends continue and this is their belief, that the state could reinstate some of the lock down. reporting live here in livermore, bob redell, "today in the bay." all right. as we take a live look outside in walnut creek. we are starting out with a nice start to our thursday morning. we are going to see our temperatures that will start to warm up as we go into this afternoon with our temperatures in the upper 50s7:00. we go from there to the mid 80s

by 1:00 today. so, it's going to heat up pretty fast. as we look at all of our microclimates and our high temperatures coming over and looking at the screen. we're in the upper 80s in the south bay but mid 90s in concord today. mike, how it looking for the commute right now? >> pretty good, kari. very good, i guess. nothing really surprises. we'll take you out to the maps and we see the green sensors over the bay and call out a couple issues we do have and continue to follow over in the trivalley and a crash reported around the ge plant for west 84. all lanes now reported clear. a couple chp cruisers for a detraction. not much impact on the drive and dublin interchange you can use that as a cut through. drive times showing up for the east shore and approach the bay bridge toll plaza and 16 minutes from the highway 4 to bay bridge. berkeley curve a good amount of traffic flowing through the area and flowing nicely. same thing for the 580 approach coming off of 24. you just have to wait as you

the white house is taking a new approach in trying to deny asylum to immigrants. a proposed new rule would allow homeland security to seek asylum seekers more specifically coronavirus. the rule would extend to those facedi facing potential dangers within their home and country and not made in court but at the border. the rule will take effect only 30 days after the completion of a public comment period. our state capitol is on an indefinite hiatus after an outbreak in the legislature. the senate was planning on returning from its summer recess this week but new memo from the secretary of the senate, the return date will now be delayed. the assembly also announced the delay up to six people who weren't there also testified. tomorrow san jose earthquake match is still on track, even though another team may be forced to drop out. major league soccer's commissioner is weighing the fate of the national team which now reportedly have up to nine

screaming from the hilltops. as we take a look at our air quality. we've seen at times some drifts of smoke coming in because of the crews fire down around the south county. but right now the air quality for most of us is pretty good. we've seen when we take a look at particialt matter and towards the east bay towards vallejo, as well, gets a little more unhealthy. if you have breathing problems around that area and east bay limit your time outside. as we take a look at all our microclimates and our temperatures and what it will feel like around lunchtime for the inland east bay we're already in the mid to upper 80s and at least still feeling nice in oakland where it's 74 and lowlow al 80s in san jose. the day goes along and we start to heat up anand 90s in some ofe spots and 93 degrees. yes, it's going to be hot. but san francisco staying in the 60s and low 70s and then going into this evening if you're thinking about taking a walk, it's still going to be hot in the east bay and north bay

valleys. but our coastal areas will start to cool off. what's happening here, we have a very weak ocean breeze. that's not helping to cool us off for the inland areas. that desert southwest heat continues to build and moving into the bay area and it will not budge at least between now and early next week. so, our inland temperatures reaching into the low to mid 90s. i think our hottest day on sunday and then we start to see it gradually coming down a few degrees. but san francisco we're still looking at some 60s here. it is going to be nicene into early next week. mike, how's it looking for the commute right now? what's the update? >> don't hold your breath. the bay bridge toll plaza still has the backup and we do think of some movement and i saw some movement as we take a live look there. the lanes are ending and flowing right now even this early on seeing this movement is a good sign for a lighter commute and that's what we see on the maps, as well. a nice, easy drive. don't mistake it for no commute. we still have slowing pittsburg

just a few minutes to 7:00. welcome back. a look at the top stories we're covering for you today. >> yes, mayor london breed is sending out an urgent message about her possible exposure to covid-19 which she says happened when someone knowingly tested positive and came to one of her events. she posted this angry tweet about the possibility by the director of public health and will be self-isolating for ten days. sentiments she echoed during a phone call last night. >> i am really angry that someone would be told they have covid-19 and be told what to do and to defy that, that request to not only keep themselves healthy and safe, but to keep other people healthy and safe.

i could have infected somebody unknowingly. >> san francisco's public health director viewed it as low to moderate. happening today, bay area lawmakers will get a first-hand look inside conditions at san quentin prison where some 1,500 inmates have been infected with coronavirus. it is believed half a dozen inmates there have died from complications because of covid-19. the number of confirmed cases is nearing half the prison's entire population and they're asking the governor to move inmates to other locations. tonight, the san mateo foster city school district holding a special virtual meeting at 6:30. the district will give an update on its reopening plan, including hybrid learning and distance learning. you can find a link district's website. the 49ers are preparing the faithful for the very distinct possibility of limited or even no seating for home games this
