areas like walnut creek. we're starting out with a live look this morning. we're going to see those temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s as you get ready to head out the door. and this slow warmup today. it's going to be pretty warm this afternoon. but we are in the middle of july. so we are going to enjoy it. here's a look at our high temperatures for today. some are in the 60s. some are back in the 90s today. we even have upper 90s for you today. antioch and concord reach 90 degrees. downtown san jose, 85 degrees. and oakland in the 70s today. we'll see fog is near the coast. it will clear out. we head towards noon and 1:00, all of us will get some sunshine. we get into this evening. it will be back with us early tomorrow morning. we look at our weather pattern high pressure is off to the west. we've had extreme desert southwest heat. it's been coming into the bay area. keeping it hot.

in fact, as we go towards the end of the week, its going to heat up again slightly as we see that coastal fog moving away from the coastline. and so our inland temperatures are going to heat up. so we're going to enjoy a bit of a cooldown over the next few days. but that's only some upper 80s and low 90s. then we're going to see some more widespread 90s for the inland valleys. but, of course, in san francisco, no changes here. upper 60s. mike, how it is looking for commuters heading out right now? >> kari, we had a couple car fires on the grid early. thank goodness we have not heard about a lot of problems or injuries. that's good news. the map i'm pointing out on the left side, coopertino, highway 85, reports of a crash and a crew blocking your right two lanes as result of an earlier car fire. but it sounds like things calms down. in the bottom, south 87 to 85, that stretch where we typically see the censors crossing, slower moving vehicles again right now.

that oakland fire cleared. we do have a crash south 680 at crow canyon road. watch for activity. a new poll shows trump in trouble in arizona, florida, and this one surprising to mshgs texas. he is a point behind the president there. both are tied in arizona. but the president is down six points in florida. surveyors say more and more voters who are worried about coronavirus returning to joe biden. now as the country actually prepares for the election, states are trying to make sure that voters feel safe amid the pandemic. but it certainly comes with a big pricetag. many states including our own of california requesting more mail in ballots. training for election workers

and ppe for polling booths. election officials say states don't have appropriate funding for the election because of the pandemic and looking for federal funding. back in may, the house passed a covid-19 response bill giving states $4 billion to help win the elections. but the senate will not touch the bill until the end of the month. >> the railout project could link san francisco to los angeles. an environmental analysis released last week in a case that emergency responders on the peninsula could face delays crossing the tracks once that project is complete. interrupted during construction and noise concerns also listed as potential issues in that report. lawmakers must acknowledge the problems are essentially unavoidable for that project to proceed. for many bay area nursing homes, family visits remain on hold due to the coronavirus.

elderly patients are being hit the hard nest this pandemic. that includes the facility and san diego's paradise hills. leaders there confirming to our sister station 112 residents and 40 staff members there have been infected. 11 patients died and eight more are in the hospital. state infection prevention he specialists are now being employed to help slow down the spread. several universities are fighting against the new immigration policy that has been put in place for international students. most colleges in the state are holding classes online for the fall. cal state san francisco and ucf are supporting the lawsuit by harvard and mit. and several of the states colleges filed a lawsuit saying
