right now at 4:40 as we check out our current temperatures expect us to start out at 60 degrees in san jose and 61 in oakland and some upper 50s for much of the north bay. as we go into today, another nice one and we'll talk about that in the forecast coming up. we'll take you out to the altamont pass where we have the first signs of the commute and slowing and disabled vehicle there. looks like that should be cleared off of the 205 and then just started the build 580 flowing in towards the greenville area and little more slowing just popped up the last 90 seconds out of livermore for highway 84. good morning. i'm dominic here at cnbc headquarters. here are the top business headlines. wall street is set to open higher as the several earnings reports of microsoft, tesla,

chipotle and others. headlines about potential covid-19 vaccines and reports that republicans are considering an extension of expanded unemployment benefits through the end of the year, but at a lower dollar amount per week. the dow closing above the 27,000 mark for the first time in six weeks while the s&p 500 ran its winning streak to four straight days. in focus for traders and investors today, data on how many americans are filing for unemployment and the number of those that are still collecting ongoing benefits. a new report finds that a majority of parents say covid-19 has affected their spending. the survey from wallet hub shows 71% say they've changed their attitude towards back to school shopping. parents of college students say their number one concern for their kids is the job market followed by the amount of debt they incur. here's one for all the parents out there. amazon is introducing boxes with

here we go on this thursday morning taking a live look at the bay bridge. cars go, lights are shining and we are shining, as well, as we're inching closer to the weekend. that shouldn't be the only reason we're shining. but we're all together

virtually. >> but it helps. >> it does. >> hey, you know what, excuse me. the weather has been so nice lately. and, kari, i'm just enjoying it and i'm hoping for a repeat today. >> you will get it. i'm going to grant your wish. we're going to see more of this nice weather. part of that has been because we've seen the low clouds and fog over san francisco. that's been keeping it cooler for much of the bay area along with the strong ocean breeze transporting that cooler air to the inland valleys. so, let's take a look at our highs for today. it's going to be just a touch warmer this afternoon. we've been seeing some upper 70s through the south bay and we're making it up to 82 today. heading over to livermore 86 degrees and expect it to be a touch warmer with napa reaching 83 degrees but still very seasonable weather as we

continue on with near normal temperatures. let's track what is going on in the tropics and i have three systems i'm watching right now. the first one is the first major hurricane of the pacific looking at hurricane douglas right now. this is dpoeg to begoing to be concern and right now it has wind speeds of 120 miles per hour. this will continue on a westward track and may move into some of our major cities there, at least as a category 1 or a tropical storm. that a concern for the weekend and now for the golf, we have a tropical depression number eight that has formed there and this will also make a westward track. southern may become a tropical storm and then as we he in the atlantic, we're tracking another tropical system gonzalo and may

continue to strengthen as it move towards the dominican republic and just south of cuba over the next several days. as we bring it back home, we're in for more quiet weather. temperatures right where they should be reaching into the low 80s. even slightly cooler tomorrow in some spots. but then it does heat up for the weekend as we reach up to 90 degrees for the inland areas and looks very warm as we go into early next week. now, mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> looking good, kari. the earlier incident in the altamont pass cleared around the break and we have a smooth flow of traffic once you get through the altamont and trivalley and east bay which shows the bigger map and the peninsula no problem. a smooth drive except for southbound 101. we're going tth alemany project time the project has been closed since overnight and will remain closed potentially until 5:00 and closed until almost 6:00.

>> this is the first time the two have sat down together since the pandemic began, social distancing followed, of course. the entire conversation streamed today on biden and obama's social media platforms. governor newsom is buying more masks for the state. made another deal with the chinese manufacturer to get more ppe. newsom spent $315 million on this new deal. back in april he made that $1 billion deal to get masks, but that kept hitting a few snags. newsom says the state will start that bidding process to try to get those masks at a cheaper price. he also says that he needs to be more aggressive to make sure those masks are actually going to essential workers. some good news for los angeles. l.a. mayor eric garsetti will not issue a full stay-at-home order but l.a. is spending $2 billion a day on coronavirus testing. garcetti is asking congress to approve federal relief for

cities like l.a., which has not seen any reimbursement for testing and about a shutdown over the weekend he says thanks to infection rates holding steady nonessential businesses will stay open. also deaths at l.a. senior facilities are down. >> and the current rate is now 80% down from where it was at its peak. thank you to everybody who has been a part of that work. >> as for testing funding, garcetti believes $250 million should go to u.s. cities. he recommends congress not go on vacation until a new stimulus is approved. well, it is time to play ball. next on "today in the bay" the big changes expected as the giants take on the giants in the season opener. happening now for you, we're learning more about that massive hack that happened last week. you remember that one? well, twitter now says in addition to 130 accounts like former president barack obama, former vice president joe biden
