having a chance to witness with kamala harris being selected as the vice president nominee. the folks here, she got the start in san francisco. and the folks here in the area are showing her support. harris started here in san francisco and this morning folks here are showing their support for her. harris started as district attorney in san francisco before moving on to become the state attorney general and then senator representing california. now this hometown girl born in oakland, grew up in berkeley where a mural in her honor now stands near her childhood home. in the minutes after the announcement was made, local leaders and those from her hometown shared their excitement on this historic selection. >> it is important to make sure that there are people who have similar experiences and backgrounds and understands what people are dealing with on a regular basis, and it is time for us to make some real changes. >> i'm happy. i was hoping it was her. she is from the community. >> reporter: after this announcement was made, joe biden

took to social media sharing in a tweet that senator harris is a fearless fighter and the country's finest public servant. president trump asked about this selection. he shared his thoughts on the pick saying that he is following her career for a while and felt she was nasty. "today in the bay." all right. thank you. we'll talk with about how this changes the biden ticket. we'll get to that in ten. >> all right. waiti waiting for that one. now to the pandemic. california is starting to add the 300,000 testing records that were reported during that glitch we told you about late last month. yesterday more than 12,000 confirmed cases were added but not clear what dates they were confirmed. the good news is that hospitalizations continue to decline. more is being down in contra costa county to address that delay in getting covid-19 testing results.

health officials say two county lab facilities will get additional equipment to allow processing of hundreds of covid-19 samples a day with a one to two-day turnaround time. they say labs are overwhelmed with the volume of tests. the county opening up two new testing centers this week, both in richmond. new details this morning about the fight to stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic. outdoor dining in palo alto seems it's here to stay. in june the city council closed down parts of university and california avenues to allow that room for that outdoor dining. palo alto online reports that the council approved extension until the end of the year. the council is considering a surcharge to plan for a rise in vacancies because of that

pandemic. happening today, you don't have to push a button to get across the street at several locations in santa clara county. the roads department is installing touch free devices at crosswalks at 25 different in r intersections to stem the spread of covid-19. one place is right in front of the valley medical center and a key spot i would say and activates by waving a hand instead of pushing that but on the. mayor of palo alto is expected to address the protesters that say that foothills park is racially segregated. this is the third protest at the park challenging the residents only restriction. that starts at 4:00 p.m. and this comes after the city council approved last night to expand access to the park for those nonresidents. palo alto online reports that the new program would allow the city to sell passes to nonresidents who want to visit the park. the council says on the 2022 ballot voters will decide if the new program should be permanent.

more housing is coming to san francisco for folks who are trying to make it in the bay. this has been a discussion decades in the making and now city supervisors just approved construction of more than 1,000 new units along the reservoir site. a proposal to transform the 17-acre property off ocean avenue in the work since the 1960s. the property is a parking lot for the city college of san francisco and more than half of those units will be sanctioned for affordable housing. new video to show you of a remarkable encounter in southern california. see right here? just a beautiful sight. very calming, too. nearly 300 dolphins caught on that camera sunday stampeding across the ocean near dana point. >> so that video was taken by captain dave's whale watching safari and the dolphins leaping into the air several feet above the glistening waters wowing the people on board. you buy a ticket for something

made? >> harris on everybody's short list from day one. we know a lot of things about her that go along with biden believes. biden talking about finding the soul of america again, recapturing that. she talks about morm clarity and decency. there's not a lot of space between the themes and similar pat coright off the bat and harris and bo biden, joe biden's son, of course, very close partners as attorneys general, fighting for the sam thing, going after banks, promoting climate change. the kind of themes that joe biden really campaign.
