rails. ♪ savannah >> i love it thank you so much. now to our coronavirus in the classroom series the new school year, we know it's already unlike any other. we know a lot of you have questions. we all do. we're all asking the same questions. today we're going to take a moment we've rounded up the most searched questions on google and brought in our team of experts for the answers. we've got dr. john torres, senior business correspondent stephanie ruhle and investigative and consumer correspondent vicky nguyen they're all lined up ready to rock dr. torres, we'll start with you. health and safety obviously the number one issue these are the three top questions on google. you ready? first one, is it safe to send kids back to school? >> this is the question i get from everybody i know. the answer is it can be safe every time you leave your home environment, you increase your chance of getting and spreading the coronavirus. it comes down to your family situation and what's happening in your community.

to help make this decision, the cdc has come up with what they call a decision making tool kit. it's a checklist you can go through and a checklist that looks at everything from what's happening in your community, what kind of guidelines has your school implemented. can they implement those guidelines and what particularly is going on with your student. can they do virtual learning should they be at school and get that learning instead? but specific things to look at number one, what's your child's age and what's their ability to follow the guidelines that's been implemented at school because that's going to be extremely important. what's happening in your own household? the situation there. the child's situation and other family members particularly at-risk family members and something that might lend more towards going to school can you meet at home the psychological, educational, and social needs of the child? and virtual learning are you able to do virtual learning at home do you have the equipment? do you have the time to help them out or is that something better to do at school looking at all of these again on an individual basis for your family, your student and your community, hopefully this tool kit can help you make that decision and it might change

from time to time. >> let's get to the last two questions real quick teachers asking is it safe for them to return >> and it's the same thing it's an individual decision based on the teacher and their family members at home are there high-risk individuals? the cases in the community are they high? is it a hot spot might not want to be at school if it's not a hot spot, you certainly could be are the implementing guidelines and more importantly contingency plans? if somebody gets sick, what plan do they have in place to make sure everybody is protected? >> and how can our kids stay safe in the classroom? >> getting their vaccinations especially the flu shot because flu season is coming up. but the three w's, that's the biggest thing. wear a mask, watch their distance, that six-foot distance and make sure they wash their hands constantly during the day. have an honest conversation with your children. tell them your concerns. why you're sending them to school or keeping them at home and what they can do to keep themselves and you safe. >> dr. torres, thank you so much all right. next up, our pal stephanie ruhle

talking about parents juggling all of it. here we go help us out. three most popular questions searched online. first one very straightforward i love it. how are working parents doing this how are they doing it? >> we're struggling. we're stressed, but we've got to do it. here's what we know. we know we've got a job. we know our kids go back to school in some way, shape, or form. so put together a plan, a schedule think of it like maternity leave where you've got to maximize your time. when that school day starts, that's when you can get the most out of your workday. you respond to your most important emails kind of like when that baby went down for a nap, you better take a shower then because you might not get it laeter. make a real lunch schedule so you know it's time for a lunch period, possibly right after that recess where you might get exercise and your kids do. but most importantly, that schedule is a goal it's not a die hard plan be flexible. we're seeing school plans change everyday you may have to erase that dry erase board and start again. and you can't go into a full

panic. >> other parents want to know this what is their role in virtual learning what's the parents' role >> talk to school. remember, last semester everybody was winging it, school included, trying to get by now we're trying to get the most out of this school year. talk to the teacher. you're not the teacher you're the support you're the facilitator ask them what you can do to be supportive you're not the one in charge and second, figure out what the disrupters are in your house if you're doing virtual in your home classroom, let's say you've got a tv or xbox in the room, get them out have a water bottle for your kids next to them so they're not meandering to the kitchen and going for snacks for an hour and last, give them some tech troubleshooting where if the screen goes blank, they know what to do rather than getting a "mom" all day long >> savannah just said charlie is her disrupter. okay last one and here's a good one how can employers support parents who are stuck at home

test. good morning to you. 8:26. i'm marcus washington. breaking news. another extremely busy day on tap for firefighters battling out of control fires across the region. that includes two fires in napa county. the hennesey fire in st. helena is burning more than effect. the gamble fire is now at 5,000 acres. in sunol, the so-called marsh fire has now burned 1700 acres with no containment. ten homes there have been evacuated. and the deer zone complex fire still burning out of control outside of brentwood on the eastern side of mt. diablo.
