6:00 am
right now at 6:00, breaking news overnight, a wall of flames from the fires burning in napa county moving into neighboring solano county destroying homes. multiple people have burn injuries. a third hour of "today in the bay" continues right now. good wednesday morning. thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. very busy overnight with all these fires exploding. "today in the bay's" cierra johnson joins us live from vacaville right now where the fires took off and so did the people. many forced to evacuate. >> reporter: good morning. exactly. behind me you can't see the flames as brightly as you have been able to in the last hour but the fire still burning out here. we have seen folks on the side
6:01 am
of the road man to dev moving a burning quickly. we have had a photographer on the scene overnight gathering that video and getting the stories and spoke with folks burned trying to escape the fire and heard people gathering the belongings, taking photographs of the inside and outside and belongings to document what they have in case there is any damage from this fire. it is important to note that this all stems from the lightning that we had a couple days ago, that lightning struck some very dry brush creating this fire and that's where we are right now. take a listen to someone working to escape this fire here in i've never evacuated before. but -- >> why this time? >> because it was -- it was coming hard and fast and winds
6:02 am
probably 45 miles per hour. >> reporter: and i can tell you the smoke out here very, very heavy. you can't see the flames. they look like fire flies in the distance but that fire still burning out here smoke very thick. there are cars covered with ash and looks like 5,000 outages according to pg&e on the western side of 80 because of this fire so in the area you should work to develop that escape plan because they're working to knock this blaze down and still moving very quickly. "today in the bay." >> all right. thanks. very active scene there. so here's a look at the fires from the pg&e wildfire cameras. this is time lapsed from mt. vaco overnight. one point it looks like the camera was damaged by the flames. >> wow. you know hundreds of people under evacuation orders in the
6:03 am
north bay. one of our own robbie beasom told him to pack up and leave and he is having time to get the valuables but says everyone not so lucky. >> i probably filmed like unfortunately like four or five homes going up in flames. >> wow. >> people just scrambling to get out. loading horses, wildlife running everywhere. it was just -- and the firefighters are doing the best they can but it's just everywhere. >> continues to spread and also those temperatures out there that we're expecting today, kari, not going to be really good conditions in fighting tha extremely hot out there. >> yeah. we have had very hot weather and not much of a cool down during the morning hours. laura was trying a time lapse of a camera on mt. vaca.
6:04 am
this is the last image of 45 minutes ago before this camera also weren't down and intense and spreading rapidly. if you are told to prepare to head out make sure you are ready to grab that emergency kit with important papers with you, change of clothes, lots of food, water, medication for you and your pets and head out in case you're given the word to go. looking at the air quality due to the fires that have been burning we are going to have a lot of smoke coming in as well as ash falling in the bay area. some of the most unhealthy air quality right now in parts of the peninsula, the south bay and over toward the east bay. we'll talk about how hot it gets over the next few minutes into today. mike, heading out the door this morning, how's it looking for the commute? >> kari, we have a couple of problems for the commute and other complications. behind me, a slowing drive.
6:05 am
we have southbound 880 approaching whipple road. a crash with a big rig an enmay have has many as three lanes blocked right now. chp arriving shortly. jamming up from 92 now. avoid south 880 until then. looks good for the flow. see the red stretches down through there. back to you. officials in santa cruz with a news conference on the fires the burning there. let's listen in. >> last night we saw a major increase in activity and we saw several of the fires merge together and essentially make a significant run into santa cruz
6:06 am
county. we cincreased and consumed at least 10,000 acres and significant evacuations of over 22,000 people between san mateo county and santa cruz county combined. the fire itself is headed in a southeasterly direction, it is headed from the san mateo county line down into santa cruz and we do have communities out in front of this fire at this time. with that in mind over 6,000 structures have been asked to evacuate throughout the entire fire area. this is a very active timber fire burning in two counties with a serious threat to both public safety and for structures that are out in front of it. there are evacuation centers set up in both counties. there are law enforcement officers out in the area conducting evacuations.
6:07 am
with that, i'll hand it over to unit chief watt conditions to say a few words. >> good morning. just to reiterate what chief cox stated, this lightning complex started on sunday around 3:00 a.m. we've been working diligently with the resources we have to contain the fires and have little success at this time due to the fuel moistures of the fuels that are burning, the terrain is very steep and difficult and the sheer lack of resources available hampered the efforts significantly. as chief cox stated last night or late yesterday afternoon, we experienced an increase in winds that created a situation where we were having long range spotting throughout the southern end of the fires that are burning in san mateo county.
6:08 am
those long range spotting caused significant increase in fire activity throughout santa cruz county and northern part of the county near waterman gap and woulder creek forcing us into the situation where we had to order evacuations in many communities and chief deputy carp will speak more about the evacuations but i'm going to speak more about the sheer lack of resources state wide and how that hampered our activity. right now we are in the position, we have no resources to putt on the line today and we'll be doubling shifting all resources currently on the line. this is significant safety hazard for our firefighters out there as well as the communities th reinforce to the communities, o. please leave your houses and allow us the opportunity to get in there and do the job we need to do and that's all i have.
6:09 am
>> i'd like to introduce the sheriff's chief. >> good morning. so i just want to touch on real quick the evacuation efforts we have been doing. with our office that started yesterday early afternoon. all the resources to bear we put into evacuating the 236, the highway 9 corridor into boulder creek and determined on the nature of the fire and progressing and the information from cal fire so as that spotting as you heard is a developing in different areas we shifted efforts and really that effort is right now in the bonnie dune area. very serious situation. we have our office committed to it and asked for mutual aid. we got that and neighboring law enforcement agencies throughout the bay area have come to our aid to the help of to folks here
6:10 am
in the koucounty to knock on do. it is a serious situation, one that obviously we have -- residents up there, receive the and obviously we want to maintain public safety and something we are in the early stages of and we'll be absolutely committed to and providing every resource that our office has to bear to get notice to as many people as we absolutely can. >> thank you. just a few final notes about the i incident itself. structures have been destroyed. that's an ongoing count and damage inspection team that has to come through behind the fire to actually assess what the damage has been. for other people who may be traveling through the area there are multiple road closures in the county at the moment and we ask people if they don't need to be in the county to not be in santa cruz county itself due to
6:11 am
the fact that people are trying to vautd and anticipate we will have to call for additional evacuations so if everyone can ensure that they stay attuned to the social media accounts, if you look at cal fire sign up for updates for this fire specifically online. with that this morning a management team is transitioning command of this incident so due to the complexity of 53-person specialized team will be coming in. and again, we are just one of multiple large major fires burning across the state right now. and it really is incumbent upon all californians at this point to put their safety first, think about how and when to evacuate safely and please, please heed the orders when we do issue them. happen the i happy to take any questions. >> the lack of resources -- the
6:12 am
firefighters -- how difficult is it going to be to contain this fire? >> yeah. i mean, this is -- the unfortunate reality is -- >> continue to monitor this news conference happening with cal fire in santa cruz right now talking about the fire that is merged from san mateo and santa cruz cown tins together. 10,000 acres consumed so far. 22,000 evacuations between san mateo county and santa cruz combined saying avoid that area and cal fire reporting this is a very serious threat to public safety. we'll monitor that. a lot more news ahead. you are watching "today in the bay." awesome internet.

6:15 am
right now at 6:15, we go back to a live view of the fires that have been happening in vacaville. this was part of the lightening complex of fires in napa county, it is now spreading into solano county near vacaville and people are forced to evacuate as this fire spreads very rapidly. we are watching this as well as the air quality and our high temperatures for today. that's coming up in a few minutes. >> two traffic alerts on the 34map fairfield. i-80 for an overturned big rig. another crash and the build at
6:16 am
the bay bridge and not tacking about this issue for hayward with slowing for the nimitz. all coming up. good morning and a very happy wednesday to you. we'll get back to fire coverage in a minute but talk about your money. a year ago if you had told me that i would be hold up in my home and any time i left my home i had to wear a mask i might have actually believed you because pandemics are a real thing. if you said at the same time the stock market would hit new records i wouldn't have believed you at all. not only will the s&p 500 start at a new high, so too be l the nasdaq, very peculiar indeed. the stock market is not the economy. the economy is not the stock market. the broader economy is not doing well at all. we are in a recession but here are the numbers this morning. be easy to say it makes categorically no sense but some of it makes a little sense like united as and american airlines
6:17 am
down which makes a lot of sense and then home services, lowe's, home depot, netflix, amazon, things that involve your house are way up and pushing the market higher. add the fed making money very easy to get and a lot of it. in fact, working on changing the way it deals with inflation to make sure there's lots of cash. we get the latest fed minutes and it's important to economists, and investors because it's really the fed t l on. marcus and laura, we have been talking about this for quite sometime, tomorrow or friday the day that uber and lyft say they may suspend operations in california due to a.b. 5. >> hmm, that's tough for people. >> not going anywhere, right? >> a lot of people aren't going anywhere. >> right. >> no.
6:18 am
i drove for the first time in a long time yesterday. >> did you? is it like riding a bike? >> yeah. thank goodness it is, yes. >> all right. thank you, scott. 6:18 this morning. trending for you, how act this? girl scout cookies for breakfast? >> sure. >> i have done it before but thanks to a new flavor just announced called toast-yay and bread-shaped cookies look like miniature french toast with icing. the sales kick off again next year. >> oh my gosh. sounds like something my kids made. >> i was just going to say. i don't know if mom will go for that. >> that's what i'm thinking. all right. look. also trending this morning, a swiss town getting a big sweet surprise. >> reportedly started snowing chocolate powder. this after a malfunction in a
6:19 am
chocolate factory ventilation system caused cocoa powder to rain down on the surrounding area. talk about the town leaders say property damage costs will be covered. that's like a children's dream, as well. >> that is. something to look forward to. >> now raining chocolate, too. >> absolutely. speaking of rain, we could use some rain. any rain in sight for us, kari? >> no. and the thing is that we had those thunderstorms that popped up over the weekend. we are watching for the possibility of the same type of weather set-up and right now is when we need it and we are seeing what's left behind those fires that have been sparked by the lightning, especially over the santa cruz mountains and this has just exploded on pops up on the radar. from the fire and possibly some
6:20 am
of the ash. we are seeing that ash coating the roads and the vehicles, everything outside right now and the smoke is so thick that even though the sun is rising over the tri-valley we cannot see it right now so we are going to be choked out with poor air quality. it is going to be very unhealthy to be outside. turn the vents on recirculate inside the home, starting to feel sick, maybe wear a mask throughout the day as the air quality has been basically off the charts and map it at home. purple air.com. we look at the temperatures that are going to be rising again today, back into the 90s and into the triple digits inland east bay and excessive heat warnings until 9:00 aen then expire. seeing this intense area of high pressure. it's not going to move but we will have at times enough of an ocean breeze and a possibility
6:21 am
that this could draw in another surge of a weakening tropical system bringing us some moisture, possibly thunder and lightning again next week as the intense heat continues, that's something to watch after the next several days so we're looking at some hot and dry weather here and actually some low 90s will be a cool down for us and then we have more very hot weather in the forecast through the end of the weekend. mike mike, how's it looking for the commute and evacuating? >> kari, it is complicated. stick with me. we have vacaville, 128. that's the complex that's cierra is talking about. look at the map. just south of there is just jammed up because of a traffic alert, an overturned big rig blocks lanes. multiple problems with 128 and the top of the screen, closures
6:22 am
there in the other fire area and the lnu fire complex. and one below it in alamo. recovering for those speeds. the crash is clearing around sycamore valley road. this is dramatic. hayward and down towards whipple road in through hayward, overturned rig there in the middle lane. folks are getting by. this is a lot of slowing. south of there everything moving smoothly for the freeway except for the closures for the czu fire. highway 1 on the left side. back to you. >> so much going on. thank you very mitch. following so much breaking news overnight for you. talking about the bay area fires that have been expanding overnight. here's a live look in vacaville. some people there have been injured trying to evacuate.
6:25 am
6:26 am
evacuees rushing to escape the flames, some have suffered injuries and burns themselves. we are continuing to monitor what is going on there. meantime there are other fires burning in santa cruz counties, san mateo county actually merge with that in santa cruz county consuming at least 10,000 acres so far. the fire exploded overnight in size. 22,000 people have been evacuated between san mateo and santa clara county and we heard cal fire with more from a news conference moments ago. that conference is still going on. kris sanchez is there going to join us with a live report with updates in just moments. marcus? nbc bay area responds to a san jose medical school student. he asked chris chmura and his team to help him correct a hospital billing problem. >> good wednesday morning. when steven lamb is a doctor he'll have sympathy for a
6:27 am
patient whose bill goes haywire. here's what happened. last year he had to go to the e.r. and when discharged the hospital billed him $550 for a deposit and told him they'd reimburse him when the insurance paid. but after six months of back and forth with the hospital steven still hadn't gotten the deposit back. here's what he told us. i aspire to become a compassionate and caring hospitalist physician and i'm disappointed in how the health care system is treating me as a consumer. we asked the hospital to take a look. it did. and a few days later steven got a check for $550. if you're canned to pay a deposit for a medical procedure, we recommend you use a credit card. make sure you get a printed receipt that states you are due a refund after your insurance pays. keep it and keep tabs. then if the hospital doesn't keep its word you can dispute the charge with your credit card company. that step will probably get the attention of the hospital finance department and hopefully trigger a refund. have a great wednesday.
6:28 am
6:31 am
moving through neighborhoods destroying homes in the path. multiple people suffered burns overnight as lives. good morning to you. thank you for joining us. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. it is really been a chaotic night for firefighters and in some cases people as they have had to flee their homes, just a chaotic night. here's the situation right now. worse this morning with firefighters already stretched so thin. this map shows you where the fires are now burning across the bay area and santa cruz county. you probably smell smoke wherever you live. governor gavin newsom declaring a state of emergency with some 30 fires now burning across california. "today in the bay's" cierra johnson live in vacaville where hundreds are being evacuated as we speak. >> reporter: yes, good morning. with the sun coming up some you can see that it's still very
6:32 am
hazy. i couldn't tell you which direction the sun is because there's so much haze, smoke and ash. those chp officers are still behind me guarding that intersection of cherry glen and pleasant there are allowing people to come out but not up the hill where the blaze has burned through the countryside since on air this morning and seen the progression of that fire down that hill and want to bring you video, this is video of houses burning on english hills road here in vacaville. a scene that played out throughout the evening. we had a photographer roaming the area. he found videos of houses burning as well as folks looking to escape the fire. take a listen to what some of those folks had to say about evacuation from this particular fire. >> so my husband was driving the car and it burnt -- he got burnt and he had to leave the car and it blew up so i was walking down
6:33 am
by myself. and i got all these flames on me and i lost my shoe. but i made it. god saved me. >> reporter: yeah. a very interesting scene out here. we have folks walking their dogs, folks evacuated from their homes seeking refuge, a dog just walked by. one of many stories of folks out here and also important to note that these fires started with the lightning that we covered in the last couple of days, hitting that dry brush, sparking these fires and those fires still playing out in the area. also 5,000 folks out power so very, very active scene here in solano county, live in vacaville, cierra johnson for "today in the bay." >> thank you. >> so much going on for people. >> absolutely. very busy morning here and weather-wise no different. meteorologist kari hall is tracking the conditions. air quality not so good and the temperatures out high out there for us.
6:34 am
>> yeah. we are going to have another really hot day. i wanted to show you this camera from atlas peak to lake bear riri -- berryessa. a part of that complex of fires that have been sparked because of the lightning that we had the past couple of days so people are being forced to evacuate as well as dealing with the unhealthy air quality. be prepared to leave immediately if you are in some of those areas and then outside of this we are having to wear masks throughout the day because of the unhealthy air quality. we'll talk about that in the hot temperatures on tap for today and, mike, how's it looking around the bay area? >> there are closures because of the various complex fires. avoid the areas but i have three tra traffic alerts.
6:35 am
show you at the top of the screen, west 80, an overturned rig there. few lanes blocked out of fairfield. just north of there, lnu lightning fire. and two alerts clearing up and the bay bridge toll plaza with a backup there and a rig that's stuck in the middle of the freeway at whipple road. that's not a trafbfic alert. highway 1 is closed south of pescadero with the fire you're talking about. >> that's right. it is the continuing breaking news to cover, one of many fires in the last hour evacuations expanded for people in san mateo and santa cruz counties, that wildfire exploded overnight. "today in the bay" kris sanchez there in scotts valley where a news conference just wrapped up.
6:36 am
kris? >> reporter: we just got an update and we know that that fire is about 10,000 acres at this point and i'm told that that number is going to change and likely that number is going to be dramatic. 6,000 more people or structures under evacuations and more people trying to get out and there are snafus along the roadways as people try to leave. we talked with jonathan cox said that no one else is coming, no other help is coming and the firefighters will be working double shifts and they're counting on air drops but that's a regional response so we may not get them before another fire does if they're burning hotter. take a listen. >> right now we are in the position we have no resources to put on the line today and double shifting all of our resources that are currently on the line. this is significant safety hazard for our firefighters who
6:37 am
are out there as well as the communities that we are out there trying to protect so i just warrant to reinforce to the communities heed these evacuation orders. please leave your houses and allow us the opportunity to get in there and do the job we need to do. >> reporter: all right. so you have to decide whether you want your firefighters fighting the fire or conducting evacuations so if you're ordered to leave then the firefighters can concentrate on perhaps saving your home. around 4:15 this morning more evacuations. south skyline boulevard, russian ridge open space, portola redwood states park and community and evacuation center at pescadero high school. we know that the evacuations beyond that this morning. bonnie dune under that evacuation order as well in addition to the folks already forced out overnight, folks who are in northern santa cruz county and much of the big basin fire protection district so if
6:38 am
that's you you should be leaving, out at this point. this is going to be a rough fire fight because they can't call in for reinforcement. as cal fire said, there's not a single fire station in the bay area that is -- has anybody in it. all of the stations are empty because everybody is out on the fire line. so again, please, if you are ordered to leave just leave so the firefighters can do their job. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> if you have no reason to go the area don't. so you may be wondering how do you evacuate safely during a pandemic? experts say if you take shelter trying to social distance as best as you can, wear a mask even indoors, the red cross is helping people vulnerable to covid-19 find safe places to stay. >> if shelter is needed we are finding hotels and putting folks in hotels. we are providing food differently than we normally would. we are not doing buffet style.
6:39 am
we are doing contained food. >> and check your three-day go kit. you have to add hand sanitizers and masks now. if you go to a shelter, wash your hands regularly. covid-19, starting today, private and public elementary schools in con that costa county can submit a waver for in-person learning and detail how they will do it safely: the applications take ten days to review and the state makes the final call. today in san francisco, bay area transit leaders are launching a new plan to boost ridership. bart, sam trans and muiny leaders with a meeting how to make it healthier and slow the spread of coronavirus. the plan is disinfecting protocols, as well. right now, let's get a look at that forecast for you. 6:39 right now.
6:40 am
kari hall is tracking the conditions and certainly a hazy morning out there throughout the bay area. >> yeah. we are seeing all the smoke overhead and can't see the sun rise right now. it is going to be another hot day with unhealthy air quality. take a look at the hi temperatures. excessive heat warnings. 102 today in livermore. 103 in morgan hill and the north bay to see upper 90s across many of the inland areas and, mike, as people head out, you have several issues on the road. >> we do. we have a number of traffic alerts but the big slowing is not a traffic alert. we still have them out there to full screen and show that big red section southbound 880 through hayward. the red sections are closures because of that czu complex. south 880 is jammed to whipple road. because of a rig in the middle lane of that freeway. back to you. >> thanks, mike.
6:41 am
next for you, a small california town left shaking. >> that's right. we'll talk about the string of earthquakes that left people rattled there over the last 12 hours. plus -- >> wildfires burning throughout the bay area. the warning for people with underlying respiratory conditions. that story in a live report. safely shop floor and decor your way!
6:42 am
6:43 am
6:44 am
the city and across the bay area. if you could see the sun rise at all very unhealthy air quality today as fires burn in every direction across the bay area. i'll be tracking air quality and talk about the hot day ahead coming up next. we are following breaking news all morninger and as massive fires continue to move into neighborhoods in vacaville. joaning us this morning nbc bay area photographer robbie beasom. thank you for joining us again this morning. >> how's it going? >> i'm sure better than for you out there. you were telling us earlier that chp came by and told you to be on stand-by because you could be asked to leave at any moment. has that changed? >> no. that hasn't changed. i have seen cops coming up and down the street and i think making sure things are staying safe out here but we can kind of see how close it got to our neighborhood and it looks like
6:45 am
just right over the hills. >> and so, talk to us about the process. have you all gotten everything that you need put it in the car or the camper that you have? >> yeah. so the camper and car packed with all of our stuff. we have everything, we have these little totes we bought specifically for this reason and spent -- took 20 minutes to go through the house and pick the things that we wanted to keep and say good-bye to the things we might not see again. >> you were working throughout the night for video to spread the message to people. talk to us quickly about what you saw last night. >> oh man, last night it was just thick smoke, flames everywhere. actually had to use the bumps d down the street. and it was just a crazy scene. it was flames everywhere. unfortunately homes were being
6:46 am
burned. it was intense. >> absolutely. we are looking at that video now. we want to send your thoughts to you and your family and the community right now trying to hopefully sparing from this fire as it continues to spread in the bay area. thank you. >> thank you. that's right. covering the fires and then finding out to evacuate yourself. for most of us though you walk out the door and can smell the smoke outside. wildfires making for poor air quality across much of the bay area. as you take a look at the range of cameras that we have. "today in the bay's" bob redell live in alan rock neighborhood this morning and the air quality is tough to breathe out there, bob. >> reporter: you can smell it and see it. you don't have to be as close to the fire as robbie beasom is. i feel for him. we a good couple miles away and you can see the haze where earlier this morning we saw flames on the ridge there and
6:47 am
since subsided but this is part of the lightening complex fire down through sunol and alan rock park and a photo of earlier of the fire on twitter. you can smell the fire here on the valley floor and the smell especially strong this morning on the sunol grade in fremont and why today is a spare the air day. i have ash on my patio furniture. a viewer sent us this video. this is of ash falling last night. another indication that the air is not healthy to breath. southeastern yours, children and people with respiratory issues be careful todayer a and avoid outdoors. last update we had from cal
6:48 am
fire, 35,000 acres in total among the fire locations only 4% containment. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> all right. so much that we are covering with the fires and new overnight a string of earthquakes have rattled a town of willits. just after 5:30 at night and in total eight earthquakes between 2.8 and 4.2 magnitude there aide redwood valley. no reports of injury or damage. >> very busy overnight. >> 6:48 this morning and new bipartisan senate report reinforces the conclusion gnat russians interfeed with the 201 getting president trump elected. >> though they say trump did not come collude with russians in this plan. >> right. no coordination but it says the trump administration or the trump campaign rather was well
6:49 am
aware of who they were dealing with. remember as marcus points out this is a bipartisan report. both republicans and democrats. coming out of the senate intelligence committee. trump campaign man manager paul manafort gets the worst of it as the documents detail hiz communication with a russian that's now been identified for certain as a member of russian intelligence. even turning over trump's polling data which may have helped the russians figure out where to target the efforts to help donald trump get elected. the report notes the fbi's dishonesty in its efforts to surveil trump campaign aide carter page but in the errand concludes page was worth it as he med several trips to russia and evasive of who occurred. the committee report says quote the committee assesses that the prooef yousz ties to russian intelligence officers coupled with his russian travel justified the fbi's initial concerns about page.
6:50 am
now president trump has said the report vindicates him but it does conclude that russians were actively helping, the campaign knew it and in two cases i just mentioned campaign workers including the head of the campaign were in contact with russian intelligence. we're tweeting everything happening today in washington. >> all right. they so much. we are covering so much that's been going on overnight but the big news is the fire. nice to get the relief from the heat. but not so far, kari? >> no, not today and we are also dealing with the smoke that's been drifting across the bay area. we can see the measure of par tick lat matter in the air due to wildfire smoke and unhealthy to breathe it in from san francisco over toward the east bay, down to the south bay and
6:51 am
you can monitor this realtime at purple air.com. now we are going to continue to watch our air quality. you may find yourself wanting to wear the mask even at home. turn the air conditioner on recirculate and need it because the temperatures will be heating up again this afternoon reaching into the upper 90s south bay and highs over 100 degrees from morgan hill all the way up through antioch and see mostly 90s in parts of the north bay as our temperatures heat up again today we are also watching this large area of high pressure and it's been very slow to move and so caused all of the lightning strikes over the weekend was a stream of tropical moisture. that has since moved to the north and continues to dissipate and watching out for a chance that there may be another weakening tropical system toward the end of the weekend and early next week as the heat continues and see if it's picked up once again and brings in another round of lightning and
6:52 am
thunderstorms. near term, humidity going down and temperatures staying hot as we stay in the 90s and a cool down in our forecast. as we check out san francisco, we are going to see here in the coastal areas mostly mid-70s. >> let's get folks operated right here on the maps. closure for 128 top left corner and then down near the bottom a traffic alert. take it full screen for everybody to see now. westbound 80 jams up outside of the fire area but not far from vacaville. getting into cordelia we have one or two lanes blocked by an overtoned rig big. bay bridge metering lights are on but big slowing south 880 and looks like speeds improving so i think they may have started to move that big rig in the hayward area. back to you.
6:53 am
>> all right. good news there. all right. thank you, mike. happening now for you a typhoon hitting hong kong hard overnight. battered the coast. hong kong is rated that system on a 1 to 10 as a 9. all right. next a look at the top stories to cover. we keep talking about the fires. you can smell the smoke walking out the door this morning. the fires explodingover night in many areas, some cases sending people running for their lives and a live update from vacaville as we know that people have been injured. hi. we're glad you came in.
