demonstrators descended to the mayor's home just before 11 last night, burning flags and profanity. they marched to his house after the protest of jacob blake.

>> this was not about protest or expressing the first amendment rights. this was about vandalism and that's simple. >> reporter: the mayor was not home at the time. he found dozens of neighbors with brooms and cleaners scrubbing off paints at his house. >> it was so heartening to see a couple of my neighbors dropping everything they were doing and bringing their kids out at 10:00 or 11:00 scrubbing graffiti off the front of my house. it says so much of the character of our community. >> reporter: ricardo says he supports the black lives matter movement so do his neighbors. >> i understand they are angry but in a way you are upsetting people that are on your side. that's kind of counter productive. >> reporter: the mayor says he wanted several mayors acros across -- he was one of several mayors across california had

this happening to. >> i am hearing this again from eric garcetti and the mayor in dallas. >> reporter: he believes this does not represent the life bla lives matter movement. protest last night at oakland, more than a d dozen end up in handcucuffs, including vandalism and pointing a laser at officers. the family of jacob blake held a rally in kenosha today. police officers shot blake seven times leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. several of blake family members

have burned. containment is inching up. that fire is deadly and one person has died there. >> the scu complex has continue to grow. the largest of these fires. containment grown at 45% from 40% last night. some 20,000 homes are still at threat. this is a video of a cal fire plane swooping in and dropping water. it was posted on instagram, along with the caption "watching these firefighters doing their jobs, it never gets old. >> firefighters in wilder ranch in santa cruz county cleaning up the fire line, they're doing it by lighting backfires, this

helps produce the risk of clear up. the smoke from these fires continue to blanket the bay area. you can see haze right there at palo alto. let's bring in robert mayeda right now to see what's going on. >> we'll show you the latest numbers for smoke and it is the areas in oranges that you should be looking out for in the tri-valley and san jose. numbers above 100. the next few hours, the winds coming off the ocean, improved air quality, san francisco and the coast. unfortunately right now you can see how the smoke piled up in land. let's take a look at animation, you can see the darker dr darker gray, it focuses in the

east bay. following the area of red during the day tomorrow. we start off unhealthy air across most of the bay area. if you look closely san francisco and san mateo, you see that push of clearance. we are expecting another sea breeze tomorrow which may bring better air quality later in the day. for the in land east bay, santa clara county, spare the air alert tomorrow as we see local and healthy air level. the worse is the morning hours. stay tuned as we go through the new week and start the month of september, looks like we'll see high pressure building and heat returning to the bay area. we'll let you know how hot temperatures will get in the sf seven-day forecast coming up in about ten minutes. the czu fire areas, some evacuees are getting to go back to their homes in felton tonight. a new source to help them pick up the pieces, you can imagine it was plenty busy.

n >> reporter: evacuation orders were listed in a handful of zones. in zone one, we found some grateful owners whose houses were unskaburned. >> it is a miracle. >> reporter: thousands of evacuees are waiting to get back into their neighborhoods. santa clara has set up a one-stop recovery resource center inside the kaiser permanente arena to help them. government state and local agencies setting up immediate needs like food and shelter. >> i need fema and food and stamps so that's this line here. >> reporter: help getting a new id for those who had to leave their home and left everything behind. >> i got my cat here, i could not turn around.

>> reporter: for those lost their homes, there is help navigating the process, giving them permits and finding a contractor. >> my house is half burned down and trying to get information to help us get our house back online. i think this is great. >> reporter: fema set up trailer outside the arena to help evacuees doing forms and applications they need. the center will operate from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily for what will be the long haul. >> people lost not just their home but neighborhood. very tragic, we want to make it as easy as possible. >> reporter: in santa cruz county, nbc bay area news. >> similar options for napa county for victims. it is locate at the napa valley corporate drive. the center is opened 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with strict guidelines in place.

ballot process for the upcoming elections. it is unclear when those boxes may be returned. the situation in oakland comes at al shake up of capitol hill regarding election security. briefings are no longer held. house speaker nancy pelosi and adam schiff are blasting this rare move. in a joint statement they write "this is a shocking abodication of its lawful responsibility to keep the congress currently informed and betrayal of the public's right to know." . up next, at 8:00, saddle up. not your typical protest by any means. the unique demonstration in the east bay. helping family and

positivity rate according to the tiers. napa and san francisco are the only two counties under the red substantial tiers. the rest of the region is purple of widespread which is the most restrictive tier. schools k through 6th can be open but only if they have a waiver. counties can play stricter requirements on the schools than the state does. this goes into effect on monday. right now let's take a look at covid-19 cases in the state of california, reporting close to 5,000 new cases today. in all we have 693,000 cases statewide. also talki also, take a look at the cases

president trump today in los los gatos. several waving flags. there are supporters of the president in the bay area. protested peaceful and traffic was not impacted. helping out the community in hard times. valle the vallejo community group gave out items like hand sanitizers and snacks and fresh food. folks were given the opportunity to vote. it all happens at the north vallejo community center. a lot of people showed up throughout the day. >> it is good thing for them. we do it for them what you would want. that's what we do. that's what we focus on and that's what we try to do, put a

virtual adoptions now. >> reporter: this pup knew-his moment to shine when he met his dad the first time over zoom. >> he's really playful and cute and we got excited to get him home. >> reporter: throughout the years, hss helped more than 6,000 pets getting adopted and 4,000 of those come to our rescue. >> it is incredible and beyond that and people are willing to foster for us as well which then allows us to save more animals so we can have them in foster until they get adopted. >> reporter: a lot of people came out in alameda and raise money to find new homes for these faces. foster mom, kathy mullen, is taking care of six kittens right now until they find their forever home. >> it is perfect. i get the cats and it has been a

the afternoon. the sea breeze picks up in the south bay. san francisco, fog or smog at times are back in san francisco. not too much smoke right now. a lot of that got pushed to the east. we'll find some drizzles and mists possible around san francisco in the morning. san jose, hazy skies, 66 degrees. we are in the 70s and 80s. today likely the coolest day we'll see for the next seven, we'll take you over to walnut creek. temperatures starting to cool off. 67 degrees. 89 degrees in the tri-valley today, currently 71. the worse of the air quality is pretty close right there. dublin and livermore and pleasanton. we do get the day breeze sea breeze. that's picking up in the

afternoon. but, you may not get a lot of sun. notice the future cast here on the coast around half-moon bay, low clouds around the morning and across the inner bay. that should keep temperatures in the 60s but there is mists in the morning over towards san francisco. our highs tomorrow begin the upward climb. i think san jose tomorrow will climb towards the mid 80s and antioch and concord you will see warmer temperatures, upper 60s and san francisco and low 70s into oakland. as we move forward, here is the issue we'll see high pressure starting to strengthen back towards the bay area. instead of the desert southwest high, this will not have a monsoon component. we are not expecting lightning strikes. we'll see temperatures in land by tuesday and wednesday, mid to upper 90. the high continues to strengthen a little bit more. we'll see numbers in the mid to

upper 90s towards the valley. we'll see a slow upward trends into the future. warmest day of the next seven days to be the start of next weekend as you can see that, the valleys now into the low 90s tomorrow and we'll see ongoing issues with smoke pollution at times and temperatures continue to climb as we head towards next weekend. if you like the more mild temperatures, enjoy tomorrow. after sunday, those temperatures start to climb on up. the hills where we have favorable fire fighting conditions, with increase numbers, those may drop down a little bit. we'll take a closer look at it. >> sounds good, rob. >> thank you, rob. still ahead, is the deal in jeopardy? the latest hurdle for the popular app tiktok.

right now at 8:30, more homes coming for bay area communities as evacuation orders are lifted. >> welcome news for tens of thousands of people. >> cal fire lifted more evacuation orders for people living in felton. this as containment grows on the czu complex fire, that's the fire in santa cruz and san mateo counties. containment stands at 29%. in part of the south and east bay, scu complex fire continues to grow. palo alto firefighters posted this video here on instagram.

at nearly 375,000 acres, it is the largest of these fires. conta conta containment is also growing. in the north bay, the lnu complex fire is nearly 374,000 acres tonight, crews are also making good progress on the line. tonight containment is up significantly, 55% compares to 35% last night. >> there is also the august complex fire. it is made up of 37 separate fires. flames scorched or more than 215,000 acres. still at 18% containment. in marin county, the woodward fire, this fire is kind of tricky, over night it grew slightly of 3,000 acres, containment grew from 8% to 10%.

not a lot. check this out, this is a great video, fire lines of the woodward fire. this video was taken near the visitor center. a fire world, a spinning vortex of hot air that's rising of one foot wide to 500 foot wide. head to our website on nbcbayarea.com, on all the latest information of all these fires and maps and you can check out the perimeter of each of those fires. along with teachers, school nurses are facing decisions of how to protect students while keeping your own family safe from covid-19. school nurses are stretched thin. the national association of school nurses said most of them oversees 920 to 1200 students. 25% of the nation's schools don't even have a nurse.

to meet those needs in the pandemic, the association says nurses must have appropriate ppe including n-95 masks and separate space to isolate students who they have the virus. not many schools can afford like a large number of teachers, some nurses are resigning, too. >> masks were a personal choice. >> how much do you miss being a school nurse? >> i miss it terribly. >> a difficult choice as school nurses trying to prenotect families at school and at home. covid-19 cases at the university of alabama continues to rise. schoo school returned last week and now more than 1,000 students tested positive for the virus. majority of those cases, the

university says none of those tested positive had been hospitalized. there is no evidence the virus transmission due to in-person class instruction. abbott laboratory is kuki conducting more trials hoping to expand their fda approval. that authorization limited to within seven days of someone showing symptoms. the goal of the new trial to expand use to asymptomatic people. abbott test is the cheapest and fastest on the market. president trump spend part of the day at lake charles, louisiana where people are suffering from brutal heat and humidity, many with no homes and electricity or running water. it is a dire situation that

lisbon. melissa, thank you for being here today on this big clear the shelters day. ben is taking some time out. >> thank you. >> let's talk about your organization, tell us what you guys do. >> well, we are a rescue organization. we partner with local animal shelters such as the san jose animal care center and recently the tri-cities animal care center and we basically rescue cats and dogs who have some medical conditions that requires extra care and we put them in foster care and give them medical services and behavior support and we put them up for adoption. we partner closely with the shelter to save as many of the animals that comes through their doors. >> you are not taking the easy

route. you are taking the one that may not find a home without a group like yours. >> exactly. we see a lot of animals that have come in injured or have some kind of conditions that needs some time or medicare care. we have been rescuing orphan kittens who are very fragile and need a lot of tlc and close monitoring and need to grow big enough so we can adopt them out to loving homes. >> what impact has this pandemic has on your organization? >> i have to say the community has been amazing as a result of covid. a lot of people have contacted our rescuer organization as well as others in the area offering to foster an ma'ams and that's

incredibly crucial to what we do. we need people to help us house the animals temporarily while we provide the necessarily support that they need to thrive. we basically have seen a huge o outpouring support. we have seen an uptake in adoption applications. it is clear that people are spr interested and adopting a pet at this time to provide comfort and support while they are at home. so there has been a lot of activities and we are grateful for that. we have been trying to keep up with all the inquiries coming into our organization. >> we have about 30 seconds left, melissa, can you tell us -- a lot of people are looking at the video you are showing and all the kittens looks so cute and you want to hug them. what do you do when you are trying to foster a home for some

of these cats with conditions and etcetera? >> well, it is a good question. i think that people who foster and interested in fostering, if they are fostering kittens, they definitely need to be sensitive to how fragile kittens are, we provide a lot of training and support to have them look out for certain things because kittens' immune system is not quite developed and so they can have colds and other conditions. we are always looking for foster parents for dogs who may have medical issues so people who are particularly have had pets or dogs before that have had skin conditions or you know needed orthopedic surgeries or etcetera, we are looking for people who have that experience. those are the types of cases that we need to support the shelter. we welcome people to contact us

new video showing you how close the czu fire burned to the coastline. cal fire tweeted this video. you can see some of the charred trees there and ash. just yards away from the cliff in the ocean. good news out of livermore. sycamore grove park reopened today. this video is a couple of weeks ago. you can see how huge that was. upper sycamore park is going to remain close right now. the park district over there and livermore, part of it is opened now. >> okay, if you were in san francisco and the east bay, rob, right, you probably felt that bad air quality. >> it was interesting to see the pattern during the day. we had some unhealthy air yesterday.

we had unhealthy air at the central bay. wor let's see you san jose right now, we got hazy skies. a few patches of low clouds. right now at 66 degrees. hope you will enjoy of the coolest today and we have highs today in the 70s. san francisco you got the fog. misty skies and less in the way of smoke. it is back to fog and some cases around san francisco after the high of 63. we should see upper 60s tomorrow. early today was 89 degrees. yes, it will be in land east bay as the sea breeze picks up from about 3:00 to 7:00 or mid afternoon where you will see the worse air quality again. also closer to san jose. you will notice here at this hour, the worst of the air quality shifted in land. i think this will fill back in across the bay area as the sea

breeze weakens and heading into tomorrow morning. that's where most of the guidance on our forecast models pointing at. you will see more orange at times and around the central bay right there and around 8:00 a.m. san francisco, you see a little bit of clearing there. that's the sign of the sea breeze picking up in to the evening. air equal issues likely to repeat in the same places tomorrow. the morning we got clouds, 50 to start and the morning trends begin. in land we'll start to see a chance of some low 90s. antioch, brentwood and concord and morgan hill and san martin getting closer to 90 degrees. we should see temperatures climbing towards monday and tuesday as high pressure builds. tomorrow night look closely at the humidity. that's at 8:30 at night. over night look how that actually begins to drop off on monday morning. this is something we'll watch and some of the higher elevations as high pressure

builds in, that's going to lead to some dryness at the atmosphere, hill top locations. we'll see warmer nights. we got favorable conditions on the fire lines. the pattern is going to reverse a little bit as we head towards tuesday. you can see the red on the map. and maybe another bit of a ramping up of the high pressure as we head towards friday and next weekend. we won't see big heat tomorrow, probably more dealing with some smoke and hazy skies. san francisco staying in the 70s. could see mid to upper 75 for the weekend. right now does not look as hot as two weeks ago. dry lightning in the forecast and trying to put a positive spin. in terms of fire diangers, it i going to be dry. no sign of any dry lightning.

a warning tonight, protect yourself against mosquitos. the county says birds infected with west nile virus have been found in brentwood and antioch. a group of mosquitos tested positive. people in the area are being advised to use insect repellent. avoid the outdoors if you can. make sure there is no standsing

water on your property. the fire department is welcoming two new unique members to the force. casey and jack. they both rescue dogs. the two dogs graduated yesterday from a rigorous training program. the department has five canines that can serve victims. showing appreciation and giving thanks to firefighters in a sweet way. a donut shop made sure of it. johnny's donuts donated more than 600 donuts. they were certainly plenty hung hungry. the nba is back in action after players protested. tonight it was all about a tribute. we'll show you.

players held a moment of silence before take off. cliff robinson. he was 53 years old. robinson played for the warriors from 2003 to 2005. the players also honored actor chadwick boseman. the a's would have been fine with just one game or no games. the first contest, the astros open it up quickly. tucker with a three-run shot. they won 4-2. the astros took the night cap. san francisco giants taking on the diamondbacks.
