pg&e has learned from the preventative outages in the past. this time if they are going to happen they'll be smaller in size and shorter in length. these power shutoffs are not the same as rolling blackouts. i want to point that out to you. not the same as the ones last night and happened to a statewide energy usage. that being said the california independent system operator, the iso, has issued a flex alert for today because of the heat and they're asking us to conserve electricity between 3:00 and 9:00 today. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." we also have new video of a wildfire in the sierra. the creek fire started on friday. this is the same fire that trapped 200 people who were rescued early sunday. evacuation orders are in place for several communities. the fires burned more than 73,000 acres and is still completely out of control. several counties across the state are under states of emergency because of wildfires

and that includes fresno, madero and mariposa counties because of the creek fire. meanwhile san bernardino county also under a state of emergency. this is because of a fire believed to have been caused by a smoke machine used in a gender reveal party. san diego county is also under a state of emergency because of the out-of-control valley fire which has burned nearly 10,000 acres. 4:35 on your labor day morning. the pandemic is changing how we do just about everything including how the red cross helps people in need. we've seen red cross volunteers assisting wildfire victims. instead of opening large shelters they're helping open spauler shelters to allow for social distancing and when possible they're helping place it is 4:45 right now, and we people in hotel rooms instead. are looking out our our studios >> we bring food to them in boxes and put it outside the room. we're doing a lot of virtual

saturday. five boats sank during that boat parade. thankfully no one was hurt. president trump's polling continues to suffer in some polls. a bay area judge has shut down the census bureau over the weekend issuing a temporary restraining order against the census bureau and the commerce department. now the bureau has to halt its operations to finish the 2020 census by the end of the month. the bureau shutdown is until the court hearing on september 17th. >> budget cuts could be looming for california and several other states as congress continues to deadlock on covid-19 relief. many states and local governments hoped congress would pass another round of relief after getting $150 billion from
