san mateo, 92 degrees. cupertino at 100 degrees. it gets even hotter from there as we go into the afternoon. livermore reaching 111 degrees and we're also going to see triple digits like that heading up through fairfield and even all the way up to ukiah today. it will be slow to cool down but then we'll have the winds picking up. that's going to be another concern. it shows as we go into tomorrow morning we are going to have winds coming in. 15 and up to 30 miles an hour. those winds will increase the fire danger and the reason we have the red flag warning for all of the areas shaded in red including our hills around the bay area. any fires that develop will spread rapidly. make sure you have a way to get those alerts.

as we look at our temperatures over the next seven days to our inland areas we're really hot today but we're still pretty hot as we go through the rest of the week. our temperatures will reach into the upper 80s today but then we'll bring it back to the upper 70s tomorrow as those winds pick up. as we look at our morning commute if you're working on this labor day about to head out on the roads a look at our overall traffic maps we've already had a couple of issues. we are looking at i-880 going northbound north of hayward. seeing an accident there. it really hasn't caused too much of a slowdown because of the lower volume of traffic on the roads. we also have a multicrash deady accident in dixon earlier this morning. they've opened one of the slow lanes. it's still really backed up there and then elsewhere across the bay area. for the south bay we're seeing overall a smooth commute. back to you, scott and kris. >> thank you very much, kari. >> kari, thank you of. next on "today in the bay"

near ocean beach. this one happened at fulton and great highway. when police got there they found one adult male shot. he was taken to the hospital for life threatening injuries. the begunman there for that shooting is currently outstanding so, of course, we have asked san francisco police about both investigations and will bring you any details as soon as we learn them. live in san francisco, jackie ward, "today in the bay." >> jackie, thank you. the heat wave all around the bay area. bob redell is tracking the possibility of power shutoffs to fire danger -- because of fire dangers. first, thom jensen in brentwood with a look at the fire danger sparking so much concern. good morning, thom. >> reporter: good morning. you can probably see the breeze hyped us with the palm trees blowing. that increases that fire danger, of course, cooling down the

temperatures a little bit. we're down into the 70s right now at 5:00 a.m. we were already at 82 degrees but that fire danger and then the health concerns with the heat and the smoke. despite those health concerns from the national weather service and from health officials about the excessive heat we found lots of people out yesterday during the evening and during the daytime out shopping and enjoying dining. some of the hottest parts of the bay and the tri-valley area. shoppers finding labor day deals, not scared away by the heat even if they have to stand in line to get the bargains. >> some stores have lines, just keeping social distancing. that's one of the things we have to think about. that's keeping us safe. other than that the sales are worth it so far. we got a couple good things. >> reporter: and i know bob will get into the power grid. power officials are asking people if they are staying home to stay home in the cool

strong offshore wind that's forecast to blow through tonight and pg&e is worried about the equipment and power lines and spark the kind of deadly wildfires we've seen over the past few years. so they've issued a 24-hour psps for today and tomorrow for 103,000 customers. 18 counties in the north bay and sierra foothills. this includes over 5,600 customers in napa. 210 customers in sonoma. you should have received an alert from pg&e to let you know if this affects you if you live in the area. pg&e says it's learned from the preventative outages in the past so if there are going to be outages they'll be smaller in size and shorter in length. the power shutoffs are not to be confused with rolling blackouts that were possible last night. thoseenergy usage. as thom was alluding to the california independent system operator, the iso, has issued a flex alert for today because of the heat, turn down your

thermostat, watch your electricity usage especially when the temps get higher later today and asking to conserve that electricity between 3:00 and 9:00 today. report be live, bob redell, "today in the bay." bob, as we watch those fires, we have new video of a fast growing wildfire in the sierra. this is the creek fire that started on friday. the same fire that trapped 200 people who were rescued earlier yesterday. evacuation orders are still in place for several communities in the area. it's burned 73,000 acres and is still out of control. the pandemic is changing the way we do all kinds of things including how the red cross will help some of those fire victims. we've seen red cross volunteers assisting each of the bay area wildfires. they're hoping to allow for social distancing and when possible helping place people in hotel rooms instead.

>> we bring food to them in boxes and put it outside the rooms. we're doing a lot of virtual case management. we're calling people that are in those hotels and asking them what they need, how we can help. >> obviously that can increase the cost of responding so the red cross is urging people to donate, and they can always use more volunteers. the red cross also calling for blood donations. call 800-red-cross or go to r redcross.org. nbc now reports more than 191,000 people have died in the u.s. more than 6 million cases confirmed. california, new york, new jersey, texas reporting the highest number of deaths. researchers from the institute for health metrics and evaluation say deaths could skyrocket to 3,000 a day in december if current trends continue. but they say deaths may be

reduced by 30% if americans would wear masks. marin county health leaders expect to move into a less restricted tier as early as tomorrow. the current map of where we stand now only san francisco and napa are in the red tier which allows businesses to increase capacity indoors. marin county says its low daily rate case and low positivity rate helped them qualify for that change. santa clara county hoping to hear if they qualify. the state typically announces the changes each tuesday. for now we want to check in with meteorologist kari hall. kari, it is already hot out there this morning. we know it's going to be dangerous today. yeah, another dangerous day with unhealthy air quality. let's head to concord and look at how o up. it's not at all going to feel like morning. where we're starting our temperatures in the mid-70s will already be warm and we'll see temperatures in the triple digits by noon. as we get a look at our south

valley fire started saturday about 30 miles east of san diego and that fire has already destroyed ten structures and more are threatened. both fires are currently out of control. 5:46. also in southern california a family could face jail time for several wildfires burning about 75 miles east of los angeles where some 3,000 homes have been evacuated from the el dorado fire. it is 5% contained. no homes themselves have actually been burned. firefighters say the whole thing sarted when somebody had a smoke machine at one of those gender reveal parties. along with jail family members could be facing pretty big fines. video of a dangerous ending to a car chase in orange county. you can see the driver running a red light and clipping an rv. the truck will spin out of
