across parts of the rockies and now with high pressure to our north things are calming down and pushing down to the surface. what's coming our way is a needed change. the storm system approaching coming in from the pacific, and as it moves closer to the bay area that's going to bring in more of a westerly wind and a slight drop in temperatures. this may also bring in some rain further to the north. we're not expecting a lot of it here but also our marine layer will get much deeper, that means more fog and that could also mean some drizzle for our coastal areas. it looks like that will be a big improvement. at this point we're looking at all of our weather patterns thinking, okay, what else is coming our way? we've seen la nina, the cooling of water in the equatorial pacific. a moderate phase as we go into the upcoming winter.

a 75% chance that stays. we've had four moderate events in our history. usually we are looking at a little bit more rain than we normally see. we're looking at warmer than normal temperatures as we go into early next two to three months. as we look at our near-term forecast we're going to see temperatures in the low 70s. low 70s for the weekend and upper 80s as the winds shift, and hopefully our air quality improves. we'll be talking more about this like how is it looking for the early morning commute, mike? talking about the view, chp has concerns about that at the bay bridge. the golden gate bridge. our maps show why. the highlighted yellow around the bay and that's our lower

in pandemic related jobless claims. jobless claims getting dozens of letters from the edd not addressed to them. it's 5:53 and the first game of the nfl season, a stark reminder of how much things have changed this year. but also for the fans. a packed crowd in miami and coronavirus not a word in many of our vocabulary. 16,000 fans were allowed to see pat mahomes and company dismantle houston. everyone there social distancing, of course, and it wasn't much of a contest. the chiefs won 34 to 20. time to get a look at the forecast. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that and unsafe for a lot of people to be outside just with the air quality. it's really bad.

it has been really bad over the past couple of days. now it's sinking to the ground so it's very unhealthy to breathe it in. as we look across our microclimates that will be the case for today as the smoky air conditions and we're seeing our winds very calm right now also much more the fog so the smoke is just sinking down. as we go into today we look at the wind speed forecast and the direction. as we were just mentioning there are fires burning to our south so even with the southerly wind it could still bring in some more smoke and so we're looking at much more of a breeze but possibly not much of an improvement in our air quality. a lot of issues here. what we need is a good, brisk wind to pick up from the west. as we look at today, all of that smoke is keeping our temperatures cooler. we're reaching up to 68, 69 degrees, up to 70 further to the north. as we go through the forecast, once the air quality conditions start to improve, we are looking at slightly warmer temperatures

one of the ones that rushed the cabin to try to stop the terrorists. they also took a plane down here into the pentagon where we're taking a live look right now. families who died when american airlines flight 77 crashed into the pentagon killing all 64 people onboard on the plane and 125 people in that building. they're going to be able to visit the pentagon memorial privately later today. it's because of the pandemic they're having different types of ceremonies this year.
