>> reporter: this family lost everything >> we didn't have a destination. we didn't know where we were going. >> reporter: the single mother just staying with her boys at a hotel. their town leveled their home gone. dominic struggling to understand >> i was feeling sad and scared at the moment because i knew we would most likely lose our home. >> reporter: thousands lost their homes in california. firefighters recovered three bodies from the north complex fire now more than a quarter contained. conditions has improved and progress has been made but that can change and quickly fire crews are hosing down hot spots by the highway they are concerned the wind could pick up tonight. residents far from the front lines are feeling the effects. the toxic haze so bad fears the san francisco 49ers woul opener.

for this couple this has been a two year trauma. >> it's terrible >> reporter: 2018 the couple lost their home to the paradise fire they've been homeless ever since. four days ago their campground was evacuated because of the smoke. >> we need help. >> reporter: here at the north complex fire firefighters are bracing for wind is a 9 miles per hour through monday. fire officials said they are prepared and ready tropical storm sally is churning through the gulf and it could hit as a category 2 hurricane when it makes landfall the storm has shifted east overnight as it heads towards the louisiana-mississippi border it's expected to make landfall early tuesday and people living in those coastal cities are preparing for impact as flooding and storm surges pose the biggest athlete. while sally's track is pushing

at least category 1 maybe category 2 storm we'll watch that in the next several hours. landfall somewhere along southeastern louisiana if it makes a little bit of a y jog to the east we could see mississippi landfall we're looking at a lot of rain, that's the biggest takeaway from sally. we'll talk about that in just a few minutes. back to you. shot in the line of duty a massive manhunt is under way in california for a lone gunman who shot and wounded two l.a. county sheriff's deputies. the ambush style attack was captured on surveillance video and now officials are offering $100,000 reward for information to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. >> reporter: the surveillance video released by the l.a. county sheriff's department shows one gunman opening fire on

two deputies sitting in a patrol car while they kept an eye on a train station. >> he walked along the passenger side of the car. he acted as if he was going to walk past the car and then he made a left turn directly to the car, raised a pistol and fired several round in the vehicle striking both of the sheriff's deputies >> reporter: the deputies were taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery. a manhunt for the gunman started immediatedly >> i can tell you at this point we have a very generic suspect description of a dark skin male and that came from one of the deputies, one of the victims >> reporter: the deputies identified as a 31-year-old female, a 24-year-old male, both sworn in 14 months ago >> two deputies were doing their job, minding their own business, watching out for the safety of the peoplen train, and somebody just walked up and started shooting on them

>> reporter: the deputies are now in the hospital. the gunman remains at large. in georgia a sheriff's deputy has been fired after being caught on camera brutally restraining a black man at a traffic stop video shows clayton county deputies hitting walker to the ground one deputy repeatedly punches him in the face. there's no video that shows what led up to the incident according to walker's attorney someone was driving walker, his girlfriend and children when police pulled him over for a taillight violation. when they asked for his i.d. he said why the deputy asked him to step out of the car it's unclear why things turned violent. walker rear mains in jail because of a felony probation warrant. criminal investigation has been turned over to the district attorney's office.
