area? yeah, we have a couple weather systems moving by tha i clearing. we're still looking at the storm system approaching from the north and some tropical moisture moving in to our south from much of central california and over to the sierra. we're watching that a little bit closer to home starting out with clouds this morning. this is helping to keep the smoke clear. things will change this weekend. more on that coming up in just a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the early morning commuters? well, kari, we have what we've had all week, slowing on the nimitz, northbound 880 to 29th. sometimes it's the southbound side. what i'm more concerned about is a crash that's happened over the last 45 minutes, south 880 and dakota a crash near the transition on southbound 880 from the city streets and no slowing. we'll check that but no major

injuries reported yet. back to you. thank you very much. new overnight firefighters stilt capital expressway near san jose. you can see the fire they're dealing with. flames shooting skyward. it took firefighters about an hour to eventually knock that down. no one was injured. developing for you right now merced firefighters are sharing an intense new look at just how the firefight was. this is near the creek fire, the fire that left so many hikers trapped. the fire now 20% contained. fire season nowhere near over just yet but it is already california's worst on record in terms of acreage some 5,300 miles of terrain have burned and at least 34 deaths are tied to the fires statewide. the black lives matters mural is now going away.

back in july the city of martinez approved the mural to be painted in front of the courthouse. the same day it was painted a white couple defaced the mural with black paint. now the city plans to paint over the mural as part of a larger downtown project which is sparking debate. martinez says it plans to make a more formal process to allow public artists' installations to be evaluated and approved. we are certainly continuing the conversation about race and, marcus, you certainly have been leading the way for us so well bringing another special last night "race in america: the conversation." >> we had powerful conversations last night. i talked to the family of oscar grant, who was shot and killed by b.a.r.t. police more than 11 years ago. grant's mother and uncle talked to me about the emotional toll this takes on them with other black men killed in a similar way as grant. i want you to take a listen to what they have to say.

north gate in san rafael. the first showing is at 1:00 this afternoon. this is all the fact marin county is moving into the purple tier. the red tier is less restrictive. if you plan to catch a flick, you will still have to wear those masks, oh, yes, throughout the entire movie, but you are able to take it off if you want to eat or drink. of course that popcorn and soda. you still have to do the social distancing thing and theaters can only operate at 25% capacity or 100 people, whatever is fewer. they say they've implemented more safety measures for us. >> we are sanitizing every 30 minutes and we are sanitizing the showtime and again every morning. >> businesses like nail salons, places of worship, can also reopen indoors with similar restrictions. last week movie theaters in napa county also reopened.

contra costa leaders are now working on a new health order requiring more coronavirus testing. the county's top doctor says some providers are not performing their fair share by making the process far too cumbersome. supervisors agreed saying doctor referrals are slowing things down. santa clara county issued a similar order. a lot of people are looking into travel by air to escape. that comes as another state is starting to ease some of the quarantine restrictions for california visitors. hawaii announced next month they would eliminate and exempt visitors from mandatory 14-day quarantine if you take the covid-19 test at least 72 hours before departure. one danville family we talked to said any change of scenery is really welcome. they're flying to palm springs in search of in the smoke from

580 moves smoothly but a problem, sounds like a pickup slammed on their brakes right in front of a semi truck. watch out for that as you're changing lanes even though visibility is fine. the very latest from cnbc. i'm bertha coombs and here are today's top business headlines from cnbc. breaking news, reuters reporting that the trump administration will block downloads of tiktok starting this sunday. the u.s. commerce department is going to order apple and google and others to remove the apps from their platforms in the u.s. they will not order them to remove tiktok outside of the united states. that order expected to be published imminently. of course the administration has also been talking about a deal, oracle and walmart have been in talks with bytedance to broker a

deal to meet the requirements for severing and meet the issues regarding security. we'll have more on that coming up. but right now wall street set to open mixed this morning after another sell-off yesterday led by major tech stocks without snapping a four-day win streak. wall street dipping back into correction territory when it's down at least 10% from its most recent high. investors digesting the fed's warning about slowing economic recovery as well as the most recent unemployment data showing another 860,000 americans filed for jobless benefits, lower than expected. still, very elevated levels. today watching for a report on consumer sentiment. delta airlines has reached a tentative deal with its pilots union to reduce the number of furloughs by 220. that would bring the total number of job cuts to about

1,700 at the airline. that according to a memo seen by reuters. this comes as airline executives met with white house chief of staff mike meadows to make a final plea for more aid to avoid job cuts. airlines agreed to not furlough or lay off through the end of this month in exchange for $25 billion in that first-round of stimulus. travel remains low, still down about 70% compared to last year's levels. restrictions on the first round of aid expire at the end of this month and the airlines say they will likely furlough tens of thousands of workers starting october 1st. and facebook being sued for allegedly spying on instagram users. the lawsuit stems from media reports in july that the app appears to be accessing iphone cameras even when they're not actively being used. facebook blames that on a bug which has generated false notifications. the suit filed by an instagram

and a good morning to you. it is friday. oh, yes, we made it to friday. a live look for you right now out on san francisco. it is 4:49 for you, and i think we're still going to have nice, clear air today, kari. maybe we can get outside. yes, it looks pretty good. you'd better enjoy it. we are going to gradually start to see the smoke returning to the bay area. let's get a look at our temperatures as you get ready to step out the door. it's mostly in the mid-60s for much of the peninsula, the east bay and the south bay. we're in the upper 50s in the north bay and it's cooler there, but elsewhere a mild start to our day thanks to the clouds that we had. yesterday evening if you were out for sunset, it was

beautiful. we are seeing humidity and temperatures slightly cooler for today. we're reaching into the mid-70s in the south bay as well as the peninsula. oakland today up to 75 degrees. and in the north bay expect a high of 75 in napa and san francisco reaching 66 degrees. so this is slightly cooler than normal thanks to that system that's passing by to our north bringing in a stronger ocean breeze. high pressure builds once again heading into the weekend. hopefully we won't see that lasting for a long time. there will be another storm system moving into the pacific northwest that will help cool off our temperatures early next week. as we look at our air quality, we've been talking about how nice it's been these past couple of days. today it still looks pretty good. it may be unhealthy for some sensitive groups. for tomorrow it does look like the smoke gradually starts to come back in as that high pressure returns and we'll see more of it on sunday into early next week. as we look at our seven-day forecast temperatures in the upper 70s today to 80 tomorrow

injunction brought by 14 states suing the trump administration and the u.s. postal service. the judge called the changes a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of a postal service before the november election. voters are expected to vote by mail because of covid-19 pandemic and some states have expressed concern that delays might result in voters not receiving those ballots or registration forms in time. well, after racking up weeks of fines, a south bay church is changing course this is what services will look like at the north valley baptist church. cars packed the parking lot. this took place wednesday night. the church finally agreed to stop gathering indoors after accumulating more than $100,000 in fines. san diego county is considering legal action against governor newsom if he demotes them on the state's watch list. san diego county is on the red
