well, here we go on this friday morning. a live look outside for you at the golden gate bridge. not much traffic on that stretch of roadway just yet but, hey, it is 4:47 in the morning. mike will have a look at that commute in a bit. first a look at the forecast for you. kari, i know the heatup is coming this weekend. how are things looking for us today? it looks so nice today and we've had good air quality. this actually loops some of that smoke that we see going into the upper levels of the atmosphere from the past 24 hours. we can see it blowing off towards the east away from the bay area, but this may change as we go into today so that's something we'll be watching. the seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen, so go ahead and take a look at your microclimate. as we look at our temperature trend for today and going into the morning, it's starting out nice with mostly temperatures in the 50s and upper 60s as we head towards lunch time. but then as we go into the 4:00 hour there will still be some
4:49 am
spots warming up today into the low to mid-80s. this is about normal and in some parts of the peninsula we're in the 70s, up to 72 degrees today in the middle of the afternoon as we check out san mateo and the north bay high temperatures in the low 80s. now as we go into tonight, a nice evening to plan to get out for a walk if you're not sensitive to the air quality and then tonight we drop back into the upper 50s. as we go through this forecast, still an active weather pattern farther to the north of here and that's what's providing a nice, brisk, onshore wind flow and giving us a westerly wind that will keep our temperatures cooler today. but then as we go into the weekend we'll see that moving out and high pressure moving in and this high pressure is going to give us an offshore wind and some really hot temperatures and will block any more storm systems from hitting parts of the pacific northwest which has given us cool weather. no more of that as we go into the next few days. as we look at our wind speed forecast, that will be the other
4:50 am
concern because once those winds start to pick up with hot and dry conditions we could see that high fire danger returning. look at the wind direction coming in from the north and northwest at times looking at those gusts up to 30 miles per hour. and this is tomorrow afternoon. this continues into sunday as well as monday morning and a northerly wind will return that smoke across the bay area especially for the north bay and the east bay. so as we look at our air quality there is an air quality advisory for the north bay and east bay but not a spare the air alert. we may see that coming back this weekend as we see the smoke coming back in once again and, of course, barring no new wildfires. we will have moderate air quality. as we look at what we're expecting, that fire danger for many of our hills from the east bay but the highest risk will be for parts of the north bay where those temperatures will be hotter and those winds will be higher.
4:51 am
so as we go through the forecast looking at our inland areas still some 80s today, but then 90s tomorrow and then we're in the triple digits for an extended period of time from sunday into early next week. we've been watching this, mike. how is it looking for the morning commute? it's looking better than those temps as far as i'm concerned. i don't care for the hot. you know that. i don't care for the problems for drivers. let's look at the maps. it's that good news/bad news situation still playing out. livermore, pleasanton, into sunol really jammed up. that's exceptionally slow because of all the traffic that's been released. the good news the crash cleared coming out of the altamont pass for west 580. east 580 the on ramp is where this crash is. you see it mark on the map. only the on ramp which is open and counter commute as well. the rest of the bay not much of a commute, not at the bay bridge yet. back to you. all right, thank you very much, mike.
