5:19 am
of course that raises our concern about wildfires especially when it comes along with temperatures that are going to reach into the 90s and even over 100 degrees especially on sunday. and for the coastal areas we're looking at mostly some 70s and 80s. the highest fire danger risk will be in our north bay mountains. as we look at our wind speed forecast, our winds turning from the north so we had a westerly wind that was helping to keep it cool but then as we go into this afternoon, we're going to start those -- see those winds shifting from the northwest and more northerly for tomorrow. and quite gusty at times, those higher elevations will have those highest wind gusts. and it's all because we have a storm system moving to the north of us with an area of low pressure but then right behind that we have high pressure. when high pressure is close to low pressure it makes the airflow really quickly and so with those high winds also coming along with some hot temperatures and then once that
5:20 am
high pressure moves in, it's going to block any more of the cooler air from coming in. so we're going to continue to get an offshore wind at least into early next week and so it looks like that heat will be here to stay and then along with that heat will come some smoke and, of course, we still have our fires burning across the state. and with the shift in the wind we go from good air quality to moderate today for parts of the north bay and then moderate all across the bay area as we start to see that smoke returning. if you're sensitive to the smoke, this will not be the weekend for getting outside even early in the morning. and, of course, with the hot weather we all need to limit our time outside. we are going to see our temperatures going into the low 90s for tomorrow and some triple digits by the end of the weekend, and we're still seeing some more of that hot weather for the interior valleys as we go into the beginning of next week. looking at san francisco, we're also going to have some hot weather here with highs in the
5:21 am
upper 60s today. but then you can see how that changes to the upper 80s by monday. so if you don't have air conditioning in the city you do need to make some plans to try to stay cool over the next several days. we'll continue to monitor that. let's head over to you, mike. how is it looking for the commute? well, kari, we are looking at the slow spot, still just a couple but it's over into the tri-valley out of the altamont. we'll look at the map. early problems on the 580 out of the altamont pass caused a big backup and we're still recovering that burst of traffic continues to feed in as we know during the pandemic we've had early commute dominating from 5:00 to 6:00 a.m. should be easing off. we have 84 now showing the build coming out of 580. the dublin interchange and a build there. it's nothing dramatic but slower than you'd like or expect on a friday. the bay bridge toll plaza, though, very light. back to you. >> we like friday light.
