9:00 pm
they have some guys that can do some great things when they get their hands on the ball. the yards after catch, we talk about it, the yac. but we need to get the running game going. it's important to get mostert back healthy, coleman eventually to join in that backfield because that's where the 49ers really do their work. that ground game. when they have that going consistently, that's where the play action, the movement, all the different types of special plays that they can scheme up from a passing offense, that's when they start to work. >> offensive line seemed to struggle today. we saw the back of mcglinchey chasing people. trent williams had a tough game. how do you account for that? >> a couple of things. philadelphia eagles defensive line is legit. those guys came to play, they played hard, they got after the quarterback today. i think they were champing at the bit a little bit to prove that they still have a competitive football team. i think they have a lot of people back on the east coast, philadelphia, starting to count them out early in the season. where in that nfc east division
9:01 pm
it's anybody's game. as you see they won their first game, they're in first place. >> they have a tie, two losses. just incredible. let's take a look at the nfc west division. 4-0 in seattle. winners again today. the 49ers and arizona both tied at 2-2. after the game today some analysis and assessment from the head coach, kyle shanahan. what did he have -- >> kyle, nick was -- in his first two throws bourne was open and then juszczyk was open down the left sideline. was he just kind of a little bit off throughout the evening? >> yeah, it seemed that way a little bit. especially the second play and happens you start to play with two passes and missed both of them. thought we'd give them a chance to get going, get in a little bit of a rhythm. seemed like whenever we did something else came up. and just wasn't able to get them in so much of a rhythm today.
9:02 pm
i know he had a tough challenge there going against that front and everything. i know and nick knows we can play better. gave an opportunity for c.j. to come in and c.j. did a good job with the reps he had. >> a reminder. sunday. we get you ready for the 49ers and the dolphins. pregame live at 9:00. immediately following the game join laura and jeff and ian and dante. and grant. for post-game live immediately following the dolphins and the 49ers. dolphins lost to the seahawks tonight 31-23. or this afternoon. what kind of problems do the dolphins pose? dolphins have ryan fitzpatrick who throws for a lot of yards, over 300 yards today. is he a difficult quarterback to contain? >> i don't necessarily think. he is going to throw the ball up for grabs. give you opportunities to make plays defensively. he's not a huge threat as far as expanding the pocket or being that elusive. but the guy's a smart guy. he's going to make some plays.
9:03 pm
i think they just struggle with consistently -- consistency. the thing about the dolphins, they're scrappy. they seem to bite, scratch, claw. they're in the game. they just can't find a way to win it. the problem is looking at the next tale of this season and the schedule, the meat of the schedule's about to hit. and that's when all the good teams are going to start lining up the 49ers are going to have to face. >> devante parker had ten receptions. >> he's a good receiver. >> expectations were very high. four games in how's your optimistic level? >> it's not as good right now. you know, i think they need to take care of and then hey, we're going to see the rams after that, new england, seattle. it's all going to start coming at us. >> thanks for watching xfinity "sports sunday." we'll see you next week. taking california for a ride. companies like uber, lyft, doordash.
9:04 pm
breaking state employment laws for years. now these multi-billion-dollar companies wrote deceptive prop 22 to buy themselves a new law. to deny drivers the rights they deserve. no sick leave. no workers' comp. no unemployment benefits. vote no on the deceptive uber, lyft, doordash prop 22. one ride california doesn't want to take. doordash prop 22. wean air force veteran made of doing what's right,. not what's easy. so when a hailstorm hit, usaa reached out before he could even inspect the damage. that's how you do it right. usaa insurance is made just the way martin's family needs it - with hassle-free claims, he got paid before his neighbor even got started. because doing right by our members, that's what's right. usaa. what you're made of, we're made for. usaa so, i go to floor & decor, where they don't just know

the difference between products, they live for it. from american hardwood to spanish porcelain to italian marble, i'm looking for inspiration from every part of the world. so, when it comes to discovering every imaginable tile, wood, laminate or stone without compromising my design, one aisle doesn't cut it. i need an entire store. now, i've got one. explore floor & decor in person or online at flooranddecor.com so it's been a very interesting journey. i learned a lot about covid. and i get it. and i understand it. >> president trump recovered from the coronavirus, briefly leaves the hospital. the reason his motorcade drove past the entrance of walter reed. and when he could head back to the white house. a special primetime edition of nbc bay area news starts right now. thanks for joining us. i'm terry mcsweeney.
9:06 pm
we also have raj mathai and janelle wang with us live from levi's stadium. a very disappointing game out there tonight. >> terry, what you saw is what we got here. it was strange to see -- of course the 49ers lost this game. we've been coming to niners games for decades, it is eerie to be here alone in the stadium with maybe 100 other people. >> the game cleared up 30 minutes ago and there's basically nobody here. the cleanup crew is already on the field because there's nobody except security, the press and the team. >> it was almost like watching a high school football game except even high school football there's more fans. you just heard everything on the field. you heart players scream. you heard the players cheer. you hear the calls, the aw audibles, everything, and it was just not the way we're supposed to watch it. it takes all the excitement out even though one hevg a finish. >> it came down to the wire. we couldn't pull it off. the eagles win. but the niners have two more home games. hopefully they can turn it
9:07 pm
around. home against miami. then back for "sunday night football" again. it's great. the niners have three primetime football games. they are a team to contend with. hopefully they'll pull it off at the end. >> we're going to send it back to you, terry, but we'll come back and take you behind the scenes what you didn't see on the telecast tonight, also all the mask requirements and we'll listen in to the 49ers news conferences as well via zoom. we understand of course there's more pressing needs with what's happening in washington, d.c. terry, why don't you start the newscast? take it away. >> raj, janelle, thank you very much. we want to get to developing news from washington, d.c. we've learned president trump could be released from walter reed medical center as early as tomorrow. within the last couple hours the white house releasing these new photos of the president working from his conference room at the hospital. we're told he was on a call with the vice president. here's a look at walter reed tonight. crowd of supporters have now gone home for the evening. but they've been there since the president was first admitted two days ago. earlier today their wait paid off. they saw this. the president surprising those supporters with a drive-by.
9:08 pm
mr. trump left the hospital just briefly, hopped in the presidential state car, waved at fans lining the street. the unexpected visit came just minutes after he posted a message on twitter to update the world on how he's doing. >> it's been a very interesting journey. i learned a lot about covid. i learned it by really going to school. this is the real school. this isn't the let's read the book school. and i get it, and i understand it. >> the president back in his hospital room tonight. the president's impromptu appearance has some doctors concerned tonight. nbc bay area's sergio quintana reports from san francisco. >> reporter: almost immediately after video of president donald trump's ride in a secret service suv was posted, a chorus of doctors sounded off. a white house spokesman clarified that the suv is hardened against a chemical attack, so the public was safe. but there's concern for those inside. >> but the fact that he puts himself in a hermetically sealed car with eight or ten secret
9:09 pm
service agents for the purpose of a joy ride or a photo op is really irresponsible. >> he is unnecessarily endangering the lives of secret service agents who are there to protect him. >> reporter: some of the agents do seem to be wearing masks but the close quarters of the vehicle is a huge concern. the white house saying doctors signed off on the appearance and proper precautions were taken. beyond the photo op doctors are also raising red flags about what the president's medical team revealed during their briefing at walter reed hospital. >> the president has experienced two episodes of transient drops in his oxygen saturation. >> reporter: the president suffered two drops in oxygen that his doctors decided were so serious they gave him a steroid called dexamethasone. >> the medicine he's on, one of them i'm particularly worried about, which is with detection methson zo detection meth zoen zone, in a it will cause mood swings, even psychosis. >> reporter: he's been given three strong drugs since his
9:10 pm
diagnosis just a few days ago including an experimental antibody cocktail, remdesivir, and now dexamethasone. >> when you step back and look at that in the clinical picture that's concerning. it makes me think the president at least has what we classify as severe disease from covid-19. >> reporter: during today's medical briefing the president's team of doctors said he's responding very well to treatment. if he continues to improve they may begin discharging him tomorrow. sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. scathing tweet tonight from a walter reed attending physician tonight dr. james phillips criticizing the president's decision to leave the hospital. he wrote, "every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary presidential drive-by just now has to be quarantined for 14 days. they might get sick. they may die for political theater. commanded by trump to put their lives at risk for theater. this is insanity." some clarification today from the president's medical team on the commander in chief's condition and treatments. here's the timeline as we know it now. friday morning president trump
9:11 pm
received supplemental oxygen when his oxygen saturation dropped below 94%. trump at that point was also running a high fever. that afternoon he's taken to the hospital. saturday morning his oxygen saturation drops again to about 93%. you're looking at video of the president's video message from saturday. also saturday doctors initiated treatment with the steroid dexamethasone. the president continues to receive remdesivir. also of note, doctors say they've seen nothing of any major clinical concern with regard to the president's lung function. and they say president trump, again, could be discharged from the hospital as early as tomorrow if he continues to do well. hundreds of people who attended president trump's fund-raiser in new jersey last week may have to quarantine. the white house has supplied new jersey health officials with a list of at least 206 attendees from thursday's eventual in bed minister. contact traitsers are in the process of reaching out to those guests. they're asking those who had close contact with the president or his staff to several
9:12 pm
quarantine for 14 days. health officials will also interview golf club staffers to determine if they had close contact with the president. several high-profile people close to the president have tested positive for covid-19. in just the past few days the count has reached a dozen including white house aide nick luna, at least three senators also on that list. joe biden's campaign says he once again tested negative for the coronavirus. biden joins lester holt tomorrow night for a town hall right here on nbc bay area. and that starts at 8:00. we'll take you back out to levi's stadium. lights are still shining after "sunday night football." raj mathai, janelle wang joining us right now. >> we're about the only ones left but we've got full access today to the behind the scenes of levi's stadium without the 70,000 usual fans. >> it's strange to see. usually 30, 40 minutes after the
9:13 pm
game you'd see all the players out win or lose with their families either celebrating or just hanging out with some quality family time. but we don't see that. instead the players just going in kind of siloed now down below in the locker room level doing news conferences via zoom. this is how we live and work now. >> we could hear all the plays being called, players cheering. we didn't need microphones to pick that up. a lot of those things talk about behind the scenes. >> this is what we saw. this is what you don't see on the tv side of it. there's still like -- it's a ghost town but there's a show here of a lot of people doing their jobs. the dj, the most important part of the stadium, because he's really setting the tone for what the players are hearing. forget about the 100 or 200 people. it's what the players are hearing, trying to get them juiced up a little. the stadium was empty but we did see security. >> a lot of security. they still have to kind of guard the stands to make sure like nobody goes down there even though they don't have to deal with rowdy fans, they only have to deal with cardboard cutouts a
9:14 pm
few thousand of them in the end zone as you you see right there. but security still on standby just in case they have to protect the stadium, make sure everybody's following the covid rules, precautions. >> if you want to now see a couple of the big plays, how we got here, what, 25-20 your final score. and this is your storyline right here. nick mullens the backup quarterback. remember, jimmy g.'s injured. and this was kind of it. not only did this turn the game, but for mullens that might be it for him in terms being a backup, at least right behind jimmy g. the pick sir, the eagles scored that touchdown in the third quarter. then comes c.j. beathard, the third string quarterback, but now all of a sudden looked really sharp, janelle. drove the 49ers down the length of the field, capped off by this jerick mckinnon touchdown in the very end. but it wasn't enough as the 49ers lose 25-20. we just checked in with coach shanahan a few moments ago. >> seemed good in pregame warm-ups and stuff. that happens. you start the play with two passes and miss both of them. thought we'd give them a chance to get going, get in a little bit of a rhythm.
9:15 pm
seems like whenever we did something else came up. just wasn't able to get them in much of a rhythm today. i know they had a tough challenge going against that front. i know and nick knows he can play better. gave an opportunity for c.j. to come in and c.j. did a good job with the reps he had. >> c.j. was very hard. so you presume now if you want to read between the lines jimmy g. is almost ready to go. he'll be back here against the dolphins. >> it's a week by week decision for kyle shanahan but he has an ankle injury and he's still recovering and c.j. beathard looks like the go-to backup guy for now because of the game that turned out today with nick mullens. >> the other part of the story is not just the football but it's all this. we're all masked up. the county of santa clara, santa clara county among the most strict, correct? in the country. >> right. >> making everyone here, whether you're a stadium official or not, if you're a broadcaster, local or national, you've got to come masked up. and that includes al michaels and chris collier.
9:16 pm
even right now we can't take off our mask. >> they've been doing other sunday night football games. they don't necessarily have to wear masks depending on that state, that county's covid guidelines. but santa clara county as you said has the strictest guidelines so everybody here has to wear a mask at all times even when you're live on the air. >> checking into the stadium is a lot different as well. we have to fill out an online submission form before we even arrive and then once you do arrive we're pretty used to this. right? you're getting just checked in, checking your temperature right away. before you can walk in. if you have a temperature you're out. >> but it did used to be more relaxed. we used to pick up our credentials days before the big game. but now we just pick it up the day of. after we fill out the questionnaire and it's approved. of course no fever, no contact with somebody with covid. no cold symptoms. so we all check that out. then we get the access to come in. >> so the 49ers go through this as the players before coming into the stadium, whether it's practice or the stadium, they've got to go through multiple checks. we did a few checks, they do
9:17 pm
multiple checks. >> that includes robbie gould. he spoke about that earlier today, about how they try not to get covid. as you know, many teams, several eames, a couple of teams have already tested positive and those games have now been postponed. the 49ers now trying to make sure nobody tests positive for covid. let's listen to robbie gould. >> robbie gould outlining what the protocol was. several checks per day. anyway the games you're talking about, the tennessee titans their game postponed. the patriots game also postponed. they were both supposed to play today. >> patriots and k.c. are supposed to play. it's scheduled for tomorrow night. tennessee titans 18 players now have tested positive. 18 players and staff members have tested positive. that game, raj, scheduled for october 25th. but it's still under review. it's not set in stone. but it's october 25th. and the nfl now checking to see if they broke any covid protocols. and they could face some punishment. >> there's just a lot to deal with for the players. like a lost us at home there's a lot with our personal lives,
9:18 pm
professional lives, how we deal with it. terry, we'll send it back to you. we'll be back in five or ten minutes here live at levi's stadium. >> ngz sounds good. thank you both very much. in the north bait firefight continues tonight. the focus is on the northern edge of the glass fire. they're making some progress. 17% was just this afternoon. now a new area is under orders to get out. take a look. the new area is bordered by highway 29. lake county line. aetna mine road in northern napa county. in sonoma county we've got a different story. nbc bay area's pete suratos joins us live from calistoga. and pete, the entire community had been evacuated for days. now they can go back home to i guess see if there is a home for some. >> reporter: sure. that's right, terry. bit of good news for residents here in calistoga, as that evacuation order was downgraded to a warning. but since this was downgraded to a warning residents are entering at their own risk. >> i have not gone in my house. i just came to get my key.
9:19 pm
>> reporter: it's been a rough week for michelle ortiz. liej others, she was forced to evacuate from her home in calistoga as a result of the glass fire. >> i have to say it was stressful. going through so many times in the last four years, three years, it's just been one thing after the other for us. >> reporter: the fire has caused extensive damage to the famed wine country region. but the city of calistoga didn't sustain any fire damage, at least within city limits. even with this good news people are starting to feel the fatigue of yet another busy wildfire season. >> it's kind of hard because my parents are not working right now. it's kind of hard to see how everything's going. it's the same thing like other years. >> it's a mixed feeli get the n that you have to leave your town it's a horrendous feeling and you're debating to do your little help that you can do
9:20 pm
without getting in the way. >> reporter: ortiz's home was fully intact. she's thankful. but knows it could be a different story the next time around. >> it's still a lot of anxiety, though. you never know -- i have too many family members here in calistoga that could be affected. >> calistoga police gave an update tonight. they said there were no reports of vandals or looting which seems to be a problem whenever we enter wildfire season. but those road closures continue to change. you can get that information on our website at nbcbayarea.com. reporting live, pete suratos, nbc bay area news. >> pete, thanks very much. turning to decision 2020 now, ballots heading to homes that are burned to the ground. in napa county the registrar of voters is trying to get the word out to fire victims about the options they have. voters can either collect their ballot at the post office, which is holding mail for those homes that are burned down or survivors can still change their
9:21 pm
mailing address up until october 27th and get a new ballot sent there if they cannot pick up their ballot from the post office. ballots are due to pit post offices and mailboxes this week. up next, one of the bay area's most visible leaders when it comes to social justice. we're going to hear from warriors coach steve kerr. and how his team is helping with the election. and we enjoyed the return of some ocean air conditioning which led to better air quality. plus we're track two chances for rain making a comeback in your seven-day forecast. a closer look at the timeline when we come right back. you can follow him at blue tv on twitter to see what he captured. in business you have to be able to shift-pivot-adapt.

9:24 pm
this is -- it's just odd. >> it's so weird. >> we've taken you behind the scenes and all that but it's just odd, it shouldn't be how a football game is to be watched because the nfl brings so much excitement, especially the 49ers with this home field advantage. you couldn't feel it tonight. >> 49ers faithful were not here. they were actually on zoom as well and we saw them on the jumbotron but we do have their cutouts here. a couple thousand cutouts that fill the end zones. both end zones. you can check it out. and you know who else is -- i didn't know this. this surprised me. >> i saw you at the game. raj mathai. there i am. laura garcia. and jessica aguirre. my question is why are we in the second row, raj? why are we not in the front row? we've been lifelong niner fans.
9:25 pm
>> we are in the cheap seats here. but all the fans are in the end zone. it's pretty fun. to see all the anchors. the nbc bay area hankors. we had some fun watching it. greg papa there. all sorts of people in the nbc family watching this. and actually it's part of charity, right? >> yes, it all goes to the 49ers organization and non-profits that support. but people will be showing up. the 49er faithful. in person. leading up to election day. that's because levi's will be used as a voting center for in-person voting for voters. and people can also drop their ballots off here at levi's stadium. warriors are also hosting voting centers including at the oakland coliseum and chase center in san francisco will be used as a place to drop off ballots only. and the shark tank in san jose will also be a voting center and a drop-off place. this will all be starting october 31st through election day november 3rd. >> pretty much every major sports facility in the bay area getting into this as this election approaches. check your mailbox now because ballots are starting to arrive now. a lot of people we know, a lot
9:26 pm
of our neighbors, a lot of our friends are already getting ballots. check your mailboxes. and this election of course is so personal. for warriors head coach steve kerr. it's personal for everyone. but there's so much on the line here. we've seen coach kerr in recent months marching with the protesters in oakland and rallying to get people to vote. >> you know, these last six, seven months have been rough in so many ways. from a worldwide health standpoint to social justice activity in the country and the political division that exists. this has been i think the most difficult period in my lifetime as far as my country is concerned. >> there's going to be some difficult conversations in the days and weeks ahead for you and your team. what if there's pushback or some angst about you know what, there are so many white coaches in the nba for a league that's dominated by blacks? what's your response and how do we get around this? >> we have to acknowledge that
9:27 pm
we're behind in terms of equal opportunity for black coaches. and there are many reasons for that. most of which are sort of built in to the world and the country that we live in. and the equal opportunity that is not there. you have to examine why that's the case. why the opportunity is there for people like me and other white coaches and might not be there for minority coaches. >> you've been championing social justice causes not for months but for years but now so many people are kind of jumping on board. is that frustrating to you or encouraging for you? >> i think i'm cautiously optimistic. knowing our country's history, we've had a few moments like this in the past but we haven't been able to break through. and i think the breakthrough has to come through the ballot box. people have to get out and vote for the change they want to see. and i think what's happening right now is the country is changing, demographics are changing, generational change is
9:28 pm
happening and there's a real desire for change of a lot of the people that are now representing the majority we've got to make our voices heard but we've got to maintain hope regardless. >> thanks for your time. really appreciate it. >> thanks, raj. >> interesting. regardless of where you stand politically, left or right, the passion he has for people to get out to vote. he has one set of beliefs clearly. but to get out to vote, we all need to do it. >> and they're encouraging all the teams, the big bay area sports teams encouraging people to vote and that's why they're making their stadiums available. and we actually have a list of all the polling places where you can go cast your vote or drop off your bamt. that's at nbcbayarea.com. >> from the election to the covid regulations here and the way the protocols, just to the game, what do the 49ers need to do to get better? because it didn't look good tonight. we'll be joined by jeff garcia a bit later in this newscast. terry, we'll send it back to you
9:29 pm
right now. >> raj, janelle, thank you both very much. let's check in with rob mayeda. rob, weathers was not a problem at levi's. just a gorgeous night. not a good game. gorgeous night. and now you want to really get our minds off the game by talking about a chance of rain coming our way. >> yeah, we've got some rain. a couple of things worked in our favor today in terms of the air quality. first fire activity up there on the glass fire. you notice as we go through this little time lapse over my shoulder how the smoke has decreased dramatically as you see the satellite view right there. the fire was still active in the hills there in the north bay, but much smaller. the footprint of that smoke as that continues to weaken in terms of fire intensity plus the sea breeze came back and led to a significant change in our air quality. let's take a look at some of the numbers right now. everybody pretty much back to good air quality around the bay area. back in the green around san jose including by levi's stadium as it mochd northwae central bay, similar conditions from san francisco to oakland, even the tri-valley for a
9:30 pm
change. i saw those blue skies, took advantage of it, got outside for a time today and you see the north bay too, it's just around the glass fire where you've got that smoke causing issues. technically it's spare the air alert for the north bay continues through tuesday. notice our air quality, though, shifts into the green by friday as we see bigger changes toward the end of the week. right now 65 degrees in san jose. nice moonrise there off to the east. you've got 74, still warm in dublin after a high of 98 and there's the fog. the ocean air conditioning as i like to say back into san francisco. the onshore wind will keep most of the bay area in good to moderate air quality as they head through tomorrow. you see morning temperatures in the upper 50s. our highs tomorrow similar to what we had today. 80s in san jose, still near 70 in san francisco. coming up our first chance of rain arrives thursday night into friday. and along with that we're going to see cooler temperatures. look at san francisco. low to mid 60s. that looks more like fall weather. some pleasant changes there as we head toward friday and saturday. it's actually a second storm that can provide a follow-up chance of rain as we head into
9:31 pm
next weekend. this is some short-term good news, good for air quality, good for cooler temperatures, and hopefully some real rain falling on some of those fires across northern california. terry, back to you. >> really good news for the firefighters. rob, thanks very much. we're going to check back in with raj and janelle. i heard raj is timing janelle in the 40-yard dash. we'll see if that's true. they're live at levi's stadium, next.
9:32 pm
jackie, i'm looking at your mri. your shoulder seems to be healing nicely. well, dr. farrell, it feels really good... that's good. and... i'm sorry. baby, don't touch that... i don't want you to play with that... (singing) twinkle, twinkle little star. how i wonder what you are... (still singing) up above the world so high... like a diamond in the sky. i'm so glad that your shoulder is feeling better. but, how are you doing? i'm hanging in there... schedule a video visit with your doctor. and get quality care with no copay. kaiser permanente. thrive.
9:33 pm
welcome back, everyone, to our special primetime newscast following "sunday night football." unfortunately, the eagles took it 25-20. the niners lose. they're now 2-2. >> don't look so grim. there's always next week. you can't see the frown behind your mask. 49ers are 2-2. next week they host the dolphins. and then back on "sunday night football" against the rams. let's show you what happened tonight. in fact, kyle shanahan, the head coach, just saying a short while ago when asked if jimmy g. will be back in the line-up next sunday he said not quite sure yet. we'll have to wait and see. nick mullens had a tough night.
9:34 pm
couldn't find the groove. the interception here in the fourth quarter. that really turned the game around. that was the back breaker. right after that kyle shanahan said you know what, nick, you've got to sit down, we're bringing in c.j. beathard. he looked pretty solid. leading the 49ers down the field. they scored on that first drive he came in. and then they went for the hail mary on the final play of the game. they almost got it. but they didn't. final score 25-20. the 49ers lose. we just heard from nick mullens in the locker room. take a listen. >> i mean, we had plenty of opportunities. and i really just didn't execute. i mean, i feel like the way i'm feeling it's pretty black and white right now. just didn't execute. and that's really all it comes down to. three turnovers for 14 points for them off turnovers. and that's really about it. just didn't execute. >> pretty tough. you feel for someone like that. stand-up guy, came out and addressed the media. he just didn't have it tonight

niners need to do moving forward. >> hi, raj and janelle. disappointing finish tonight at levi's stadium. you know, when you look at the 49ers right now, what they were so good at last year has been lacking on the offensive side, and that's consistency in the run game. they just haven't seemed to be as explosive. and i know they've had injuries. having mostert out, coleman out and having to go to mickinon. but mckinnon ran hard tonight. but there just aren't the holes we're used to seeing out of this offensive line, the front five, along with kittle. now, kittle stepping in was a difference maker today. 15 catches. was dominant on the field. whether he was pass catching or blocking on the edge. the other thing that is a concern for me is the mobile quarterback that the 49ers face. they have struggled to contain the quarterback. we saw last week with daniel jones out with the new york giants, running the zone read, getting outside the edge.
9:38 pm
we saw it again tonight with carson wentz. again, these are fabricated runs where the quarterback is reading the edge. as soon as the edge bites down, he's toeing the ball, keeping it around and gaining too many yards against our defense. that is a concern and i hope that's something that they fix because we have some great quarterbacks we're about to face in the future with russell wilson, goff, and the likes of others. back to you at levi's. >> very good analysis from our friend and colleague jeff garcia. by the way, not only a former 49ers quarterback, a former eagles quarterback back in the day. so he has a lot going on in this game as well. he brings up some great points, though. the niners' schedule is going to get a lot tougher. the jets and joints and the eagles aren't on it anymore. it's going to get a lot tougher in the next several weeks. >> don't go away. coming back, this is a very special game not for the 49ers but also the nfl. we're going to explain the special meaning and the cause they're trying to promote. that's coming up later on the
