4:37 am
we will see our winds picking up for the afternoon but becoming lighter tonight. a look at the high temperatures for today with oakland reaching 76. we have some 80s for the south bay and some low 90s for concord and 92 today for ukiah. we'll get a look ahead to the rest of the forecast. that's coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking right now for the commute? well, kari, what we can see is that some folks won't see so well at the golden gate bridge. we talked about the fog as the chp warns. we have a camera right there. one of our many cameras around the bay. a smooth drive but not a smooth view here. just the glowing lights. take it easy across the span. it's not as bad as it sometimes get. the map extends pretty far north to the north bay along highway 10e at the ver zones and we con to follow that huge story up there with still those road closures. we still have highway 4 with a

4:46 am
o-cedar. it feels great to feel at home good morning to you. look at that mist hanging over the bay bridge toll plaza this morning. there is a fog advisory for some areas. if you're headed out to work, if you're not working from home with us, mike is tracking that. we're tracking the weather this morning. kari, nice to see that sign of cooler things. absolutely. i am loving this shot this morning that we have looking over san francisco. you can see the fog that's lingering over the city this morning just rolling by. it also provides some cooling as well as some higher humidity, and we need both. the visibility has been cut down to about a quarter mile in san francisco extending over to oakland and we're also seeing that happening in santa rosa as well. so watch out for that fog as you're heading out this morning
4:47 am
for work. as we go throughout the day our temperatures are going to be nice and comfortable to start but then warming up in some of our valleys once again. here we are at noon. if you're thinking about having lunch outside in oakland it's 70 degrees. it's 77 in san jose. 79 degrees in antioch. then as we go into the afternoon spots like santa rosa in the mid-80s. san francisco will stay in the 60s. you can see how much warmer it will be as you go down the peninsula and down to cooper tite cupertino with some 90s in the east bay. then as we go into the evening shortly before sunset we're going to see a nice cooldown dropping back to the 70s for much of the bay and then tonight we'll cool it off once again as that fog may extend farther inland. as we look at our five-day forecast for air quality, that's, of course, been a big question on everyone's minds. should i go outside for a long walk with this air quality? in the north bay the answer is no because we're still looking
4:48 am
at some thick smoke lingering over the north bay, the inland east bay is where we also see that smoke going but elsewhere we are seeing some improving air quality. and then as we go to the end of the week we'll be watching a couple weather systems. one is the weakening of a tropical system that was marie that could get drawn into an area of low pressure and enhance our chance of rain for the weekend starting friday and continuing into saturday. some of our models are showing the potential of getting some pretty decent amounts of rain especially for this time of year. we're talking mid-october and will see the possibility of getting at least a quarter inch of rain, maybe higher for the santa cruz mountains up to an inch of rain that would really help us out significantly for the air quality and more containment on the glass fire. we'll have cooler air coming along with that. we start out the week at 90 degrees. we can end it with some mid-70s. so, yes, some very good news here in the weather forecast.
4:49 am
mike, do you have any good news for the commute? yeah, mid-70s by the end of the week. that's your department. still, i'm happy about it. we'll show a smooth flow of traffic. there's a note, though. take a look westbound out of the altamont pass. we may see more traffic. so far it looks standard. the deal is i'm concerned about a little more traffic flow. we just got word from ace train. some sort of track issue, that will keep perhaps more folks on the roadway or they may not be coming into this morning. they may telecommute. we're looking at the possibility out of the altamont. so far everything is looking clear. watch the fog issue across the golden gate and throughout the north bay. back to you. all right, good to know. thank you, mike am happening today the supreme court resumes
4:50 am
its 2020 term. this as justices still continue to mourn the death of their colleague ruth bader ginsburg. they will carry on their work along with her likely successor amy coney barrett. barrett's nomination to the seat held for 27 years by ginsburg marks a potential turning point for the nation's judicial system. today the justices will also face a flurry of emergency petitions from democrats and republicans over the way mail-in ballots are distributed, delivered and counted. a southern california man is saying remdesivir saved his life. back in april he was one of the first people to test positive for covid-19 in san diego county. his symptoms were a high fever and difficulty breathing. when he got to the hospital doctors treated him with hydroxychloroquine but then immediately pulled him off to participate in a remdesivir iv
