current temperatures in the 70s in hayward and redwood city and that just sort of gives you a preview of how warm it expects to get into the afternoon and the big concern here is the dry northeast winds and the red flag warning in effect through 11:00 a.m. and gusty conditions and i'll go into more detail on that coming up in just a few minutes. mike? >> all right, vianey. one little segment closed roadway and over in the trivalley. as we get a look over there. eastbou eastbound 84 just before 4:00 a car hit a tree. doesn't sound like anything major. the tree is across the eastbound lanes and that will be a problem. very dark right now of course before sunrise we'll track that. the main commute through the trivalley is fine and oakland where we already see slowing northbound towards the construction at 29th. back to you. >> thanks so much, mike.

among the thousands of customers in the bay area impacted by the public safety power shut down the city of calistoga. >> the people there just trying to get back to normal life after the entire community was forced to evacuate just weeks ago. "today in the bay" has more from the north bay. >> in downtown calistoga plenty of people took a stroll warm evening because there is not much to do at home because the power is out. happening a lot the last couple years. >> if we don't have our power, we lose everything. >> we're a working class community and you can't keep replacing the contents in your refrigerator over and over again and medical conditions and that's the most challenging. >> reporter: calistoga mayor says the power went off at 5:57

and most of the town is still lit because of a power generating station that was recently set up on the edge of town. the lights are still on in downtown calisoga, but about 40% of calistoga went dark. all the homes and businesses on the west side of the napa river are not connected to the generators because of fire people oncerns. getting through the night by candlelight or fumbling in the dark with candles or flash lights. >> it's hard to see. it's really hard. >> reporter: some residents and business owners have their own generators but for those who don't, this will likely be a long night and even more to come pospably. >> nothing to do. just live in the darkness and do nothing. now a live look for you across the bay area. still dark but those areas really right for fires.

last night pg&e turned ouf power to many of the east bay hills and people who are actually living there will be waking up this morning in darkness. now, ahead of the shutoff oakland's public works department put out signs for traffic control. this is as pg&e prepares. it started at 8:00 a.m. for alameda, san santa clara county. pg&e is tracking current wind conditions which could create some problems later today. >> it will be followed quickly by another period of winds thursday night into friday. so, it's really looking to us like two periods of winds. >> our son's best friend is coming over tomorrow because he's not going to have power. >> we saw a lot of people scrambling to buy those generators before the power went out. >> we're going to stay on top of the new power outages as they pop up throughout the bay area. you can find the pg&e outage map

overturn it. the last democrat to question her joe biden's running mate, kamala harris. >> would you consider the 135 million people who gain protection under the affordable care act when deciding a case that challenges that law? >> senator harris, if i were to be confirmed and conclude that i was able to sit on the case pursuant to the recusal statute and then if i heard the case and decided the case, i would consider all the protections that congress put in place. >> if things move as scheduled, the final confirmation vote would happen in two weeks. republicans are expected to have the votes to approve barrett's nomination. 4:36 for you this morning. time to get a track of what we can expect from the forecast today. vianey, another warm one out there for us. >> not only going to be warm, but it is going to be dry. the three things we look out for

when we talk about elevated fire danger is windy, how dry is it going to be and how hot is it going to be. a red flag warning in effect through 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. on and off mountain gusts. so, if you were at a lower elevation, you might not even see winds in your area. elevations above 1,000 feet above upwards of 40 miles per hour and that's where the major concern comes in. not only that, but a heat advisory in effect through tomorrow night. napa already managed to tie a record yesterday of 97 degrees and we could see more near record-breaking temperatures yet again today. upper 80s and even for the coast and the bay. interior valleys in the low 100s which means you may have to limit your outdoor exposure and you want to watch out for heat-related illnesses because definitely going to be one of those hot afternoons. a closer look at your mic microclimate highs for today. mostly clear conditions and beautiful and sunny, but those windy hills and the temps in the

90s are something we look out for and i'll go into more detail and how long this will last and the biggest threats are in just a few minutes. >> all right, vianey. a problem in the south bay. northbound 280 at bird. i think it's the freeway itself, but judging by the information i marked that right here middle of the screen. northbound 280 at bird. sounds like an rv pulled over to the shoulder because maybe a fire somewhere under or inside the back of that rv. they pulled over under a tree and the tree caught fire and, again, it sounds like the fire has 280 temporarily closed and it may just be the off ramp. i'll let you know. i'm tracking that as you come through the downtown area. doesn't sound like structures involved but we're watching this. the rest of the bay moves well but slowing at oakland. we'll talk about that coming up. back it to you. . >> coming up on "today in the bay." the pandemic is not uniting

and maybe even a fan because you'll need one today. san jose 65 degrees and winds are calm and the red flag warning. this will be in effect through friday tomorrow and it's important to note it's for the higher elevation areas we've already seen gusty conditions. it's not going to be windy and gusty everywhere, especially not in the lower elevation areas. when you think to yourself when you head outside it's not really windy, why red flag warning. elevations above 1,000 feet have seen gusty winds and 30, 40, 50 plus miles per hour. when you think of the concern of how much dry brush is out sprea. the humidity is less than 10% and we're talking really dry conditions. in addition to that, the high pressure that is hanging out tough over the last couple days is going to keep on hanging out. that means we'll see a rise in those temperatures near record breaking. we did see a record temperature yesterday for napa of 97 degrees and that is going to be similar to what we'll experience for today. so, let's talk about these

winds. remember i mentioned they would be in elevations of 1,000 feet. it starts to sort of increase heading intonig tonight, which why we're keeping a close eye on this. once again, we'll see those gusty winds upwards of 20 plus miles per hour. if you're wondering about your air quality forecast. we're expecting moderate conditions but air quality can change hour by hour. if a new fire starts, that could change things. if the wind shifts, that could also change things. we're talking 80s and 90s. unfortunately this will stick around through the weekend and a little cooling heading into the workweek next week. mike, i'll send it back to you. >> all right, vianey, i don't like the higher temperatures, but we'll take it. we'll look to the roadways where we don't like the slowing, but i'll take it. i did find not in the regular transportation department grid but chp is helping out

northbound and you see the slowing. all lanes blocked very quickly for whatever work they're doing there and now they're back open, again. slowing northbound towards 29th and traffic break clear and southbound the construction in the area. now 84 eastbound through the curvy area and miles canyon and that crash and tree down. eastbound don't plan on using that. use mission to get around it and slowing 280 around bird from that earlier rv fire. still over on the shoulder. back to you. >> thank you so much, mike. this is concerning. developing this morning, san francisco police have a mystery on their hands after someone stole a lemur from the san francisco zoo. lemur is named mocky and they reported him missing yesterday morning. they believe someone broke into the habitat. zookeepers say he's old and slower than the rest of the troop making him easier to catch. one expert said the highly endangered animal does do not

make good pets. >> they're not going to enjoy having this animal in their lives and he is not going to be part of this human world they can't survive in. >> authorities hope surveillance video provides them some clues or a tip from someone who knows something. the last time an animal was stolen from the san francisco zoo was 20 years ago when a tip helped police track down two stolen koalas. federal agents made the first and second largest meth bust in history just this month. more than a ton. about 2,500 pounds of crystal meth was seized in a narcotics stash house east of los angeles. the bust happened back on october 2nd. the investigation into large-scale drug trafficking organization with the cartel out of mexico began in june. well, 49er mourning this morning. the death of a legend from
