to you. friday eve as we like to call it around here. i'm marcus washington. >> you are so right. and i'm laura garcia. we'll check in with mike in a little bit for the early morning commute but first i want to say good morning to meteorologist kari hall. >> good morning. we will have a slightly cooler day but we are still watching that high fire danger and quite a few things i'm watching in the forecast as we go into the next couple days as the cool down continues and it will be gusty at times and, of course, that increases our fire danger. that continues over the next couple days. in terms of temperatures, we're looking at some low 80s in the south bay and mid 80s for the east bay and 85 today in napa. we'll get a look at all the microclimates coming up. mike, how is it looking right now for the morning drive. >> couple things stand out unusual, kari. the unusual is the green that we see, except for out of the altamont pass and eastbound 84

iran sent intimidating e-mails to a number of democrats. some feature the far right group the proud boys and say, quote, vote trump or we'll come after you. u.s. intelligence officials say that a foreign actors have an agenda. >> this data can be used by foreign actors to attempt to communicate false information to registered voters that they hope will cause confusion, chaos and undermine your confidence in american democracy. >> election officials are reminding everyone this morning that all ballots are secrets here in the u.s. no one can find out who voted for who. well, developing this morning, san francisco police are now talking about a woman who they say tried to kidnap a 3-year-old girl. it happened on monday night on 1st street in the financial district. police aren't providing many details, but they say the suspect grabbed the young girl's arm and tried to run off with

her. a witness then intervened and responding officers arrested that woman. the man accused in headline grabbing a lemur from san francisco zoo is expected to appear in court this morning. cory mcgillway will enter a plea. police arrested him a few days after the lemur were recovered on the grounds of the preschool. based on evidence recovered in the property. also good news for san mateo county. it could move into the orange tier soon. the county can advance to the less restrictive level if it fifin next week. restaurants, indoor worship and family entertainment centers can operate with 25% or 200 people,

whichever is fewer. >> sonoma county tourism is partnering with the company photograph 750 locations as a way to offer virtual tours. 72% of businesses recently surveyed say they won't be able to survive for another year if the pandemic continues. well, new health care plan for workers at sfo is now getting pushback from the airlines. the examiner is reporting the board of supervisors created an ordinance requiring airlines to expand health insurance to all its workers and their families at no cost to help them during the pandemic. if the airline refuses it, it has one other option. pay nearly $10 an hour to the current health care system that covers some workers. right now airlines pay just over $5. airlines say the new requirement would increase costs at sfo and damage the already failing industry. san francisco's warn down hall of justice is reportedly

giving leaders one last case study according to recent decision to vacate the building. the seventh floor jail has already been moved but some courtrooms still operating there along with police units and the examiner reports last month a major leak from a sewer line damaged some of the remaining units which has been relocated. the pd did not comment to "the examiner." a new policy in oakland is trying to get the homeless off the streets and just make it in the bay. oakland city council to prohibit homeless encampment. the homeless won't be able to set up tents near homes, business businesses, schools and some churches. the policy will start next year. the news comes as the founder of charles schwab plans to donate $65 million to go housing for the homeless across the bridge in san francisco. here we go. 4:36 for you this morning and,

of course, we always want to get you started on a good way. meteorologist kari hall has a look at the forecast for us. we need to be mindful. the hot fire danger still in effect in our area. >> we need to be very careful over these next 24 hours until this red flag warning expires. we're seeing all of our hilltops and possibly getting those gusts up to 50 miles per hour for today and that especially includes our north bay. elevations above 1,000 feet. the santa cruz mountains, as well as the east bay and all of those areas up above 1,000 feet. so far wind gusts for some of the valley locations have been up to about 27 miles per hour in san francisco. inland heading over to concord and up to about 13. we haven't seen so many of those strong wind gusts in some of the low lying areas and, once again, the hilltops quite windy. mike, as you're driving around

the bay area, how is it looking for the commute? >> across the bay we are worried about the dum babarton bridge. 84 the speed sensors coming back and maybe a slower moving truck and two of them perhaps cause that. this is because of the crew. the slowing southbound through hayward from about 92 and coming off the transition off the san mateo bridge and whipple should clear up once you pass by that. also the construction crew around 29th, 23rd. should be there for the nimitz where i circled. i'll talk about that in a quick report coming up. >> thanks. countdown to election day is on. next on "today in the bay" all new warning for daca recipients and what they are being told they should do right now. >> the party is over. why one streaming service says it is being forced to shut down just months after launching. you're watching "today in the bay."

here we go on this thursday morning. taking a live look for you right now downtown san francisco. the transamerica building. oh, yes, getting started. but you can see lingering there. oh, yeah, he's there. 4:47 this morning. time to get a look at that forecast for you. kari hall has been working hard to make sure we know all we need to know as we head out the door this morning. kari? >> right. we're going to start off with taking a look at our drought conditions because we know it's been so dry. we will get the drought monitor update this morning but our vegetation has been very crispy because we didn't get a lot of rain this year. now we have severe drought conditions for much of the north bay and, in fact, it's extreme drought conditions.

we have a lot of severe drought heading over from santa rosa to san francisco and over towards the east bay and then for the south bay, we are now in a moderate drought. so with this, we've seen our reservoirs going way down. right now our south bay reservoirs are only at 34% of the historical average. so, as those levels continue to drop, unfortunately, we are not looking very good here with the drought conditions and very low reservoir storage. but then as we look statewide, we are doing a little bit better especially as you head towards southern california where there's no drought conditions right now at this point. so, the drought has mainly been for central, northern california and definitely here in the bay area. so, we'll be watching that today with our high fire danger but then as we head out the door with our temperatures in the 50s, it's going to start to warm up. let's take you through lunchtime and in oakland 75 degrees and we'll see also 75 degrees in san jose and redwood city about 74

degrees and for the north bay, some upper 70s but then as we go through the forecast, cooling down for tonight not as much as our wednesday. pretty gusty. high pressure will be just off to our west and couple storm systems passing to our north and that will create a lot of the gusty winds over the next few days but it will be so nice to get these cooler temperatures in here and i want to show you san jose and our temperature trend over the next seven days. going from the low 80s to the 70s and if you can believe it on sunday, the high temperature will only be 69 degrees and then warm up just gradually going into the beginning of next week. as we get ready to head out the door, mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> looking kind of the last time as we took a look but that doesn't mean it's all clear. folks, we're looking at green sensors for everyone that are going to change or change very

soon. southbound 880 heading towards hayward from 92 and coming off of 92 heading towards industrial. we do have that slow zone. the overnight crew blocking two lanes. we don't see slowing until they clear, but we've seen this for a half hour as i've been watching. get up towards oakland and the wester tube is still closed until 5:00. another 10, 15 minutes until that clears and get over to the island of alameda coming over from the alameda area and scheduled maintenance in the area. also maintenance on 880 between 23rd and 29th. no slowing. you're restricted in both directions. we'll watch for that coming up. back to you. >> thanks, mike. 4:50 right now. a judge is refusing to fast track javier basara's. the republican party believes it is complying with state election year. recently demanded the party provide contact information for anyone who used the boxes which

the xwgop refused to do. in denying his case to expedite the case state attorneys did not prove immediate harm. recommending daca recipients renew their permits before the election. that is due to fears if president trump re-elected may be able to fully eliminate the program. daca recently survived the executive order with a reprieve from the supreme court. many believe a trump victory would provide him the mandate to get done what he could not get done during his first term. well, as for the race for covid vaccine and as it plays out, smaller vaccine and treatment trials are being conducted outside of the spotlight. one vaccine trial going on in newport beach is starting it first stage. the company said it had time to better develop its vaccine unlike the drug giants now in the later stages of its trial. else where in southern california another company starting its first trial for an
