beaver, pennsylvania northwest of pittsburgh. there is a quaint downtown here. beautiful homes. but that's not the whole picture. this used to be steel country. and generations of families had working-class jobs, registered democrat and voted for democrats. not anymore. the ohio river cuts a path through beaver county, pennsylvania, back when big steel mills dotted the river and dominated the valley, nearly everyone voted democrat. >> democrats and labor went hand in hand. >> reporter: but decades after the steel mills shut down, president trump won the county by 19 points j.d. has been reporting here more than two decades. >> there was that sort of malaise and a feeling that we were left behind my children had to leave my grandkids had to leave. they're not coming back. trump tapped into that. >> those trump voters in 2016 weren't necessarily republicans? >> no, this is a democratic county that votes republican >> i think it was just a matter of, you know, you kind of grew up democrat and that's the lane you fell into.

dasha, good morning. >> reporter: hey, frances. guns very much in the spotlight in this open-carry state we are wait for a last-minute decision from michigan's supreme court. the secretary of state issued a ban on open carry at the polls, but that was recent struck down by two courts. this is a serious concern for many voters. a recent poll showed that 73% of michiganders do not want to see guns near polling areas. adding to that are the alleged plot on governor whitmer from militia members and dueling rallies between groups on the right and the left heavily-armed attendees at both events but ultimately the people on the front lines of this are going to be the local clerks, the precinct chairs, the election workers. i've been talking to those folks and they until teleme they're being put in a tough spot. still waiting an on answer to this very important issue that will have an impact on what they
