morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we'll get to the roads in a bit. first let's start with the forecast. meteorologist kari hall, the rain is moving on out, moving to the east. we are seeing quite a bit of rain across the bay area into parts of the east bay and we are seeing this rain, pockets of heavy downpours around walnut creek and concord and some rain near berkeley. we are going to see some of the heavier pockets of rain right around san leandro and on 580 so that may slow you down for the commute. heading over to san mateo and parts of the peninsula dealing with heavy rain where we see the dark greens and yellow. still raining in los gatos and over the santa cruz mountains that will be moving into the city within the next few minutes. we do still have a lot of rain

to tracking a the lingering rain continues. we'll talk about what's ahead coming up. mike, how is it looking with all the rain on the roads? the green radar on your maps is where it was raining on our maps. we'll show that highlighted in green as well. the bay bridge toll plaza wet lanes, now clear lanes so traffic is moving smoothly. look at the map where there is a crash blocking your left lanes, plural, you have to get over to your right as you pass by the exit. we have some slowing but still an alert from chp. there's something holding them up from clearing the lanes. i will check and watch for the slick conditions everywhere else around the bay as kari said. back to you. breaking news we're following, pfizer says final results of its covid machine shows it's 95% effective.

the drug company just finished phase three testing and will submit within days to the fda for final approval. it expects to make 15 million doses this year and 1.2 billion by the end of 2021. it said it was 90% effective and moderna said on monday that its vaccine was 94.5% effective. pfizer's vaccine does need to be stored in extremely cold temperatures. doctors say the next two weeks will be critical in slowing the covid-19 surge across the bay area. about 12% will become hospitalizations in the next two to three weeks. there are concerns the system could become overwhelmed. santa clara hospitals had 87 patients in mid-october and in san francisco we're talking about a similar situation there. in october 17 patients were hospitalized. now there are 39.

luckily those hospitals aren't overwhelmed like in other states just yet. >> we have capacity, we have medications, we have ppe, but things can change very quickly. >> she says if everyone brought in was wearing a mask and social distancing there would be few cases in a month. >> as much as the bay area in the purple tier, indoor dining has stopped. stores can only operate at 25% capacity. gyms and fitness centers can only operate outdoors. the changes went into place at midnight. some say they're finding patio heaters and propane to fill them. the fda has granted emergency approval to an east bay company

for testing kits made by lucera health. it's rapid and gives results in 30 minutes. no shipping a sample to a lab, waiting days for results. the fda says it's important for getting more people tested and quicker. you swab your nose, swirl that swab in a vial and put it in a portable device that will tell you if you have covid or not. results within 30 minutes. here is the catch, you need a prescription to get the test. it will cost you $50 but it will be available in the spring. >> a lot of people have been wondering is the state's case against uber and lyft still ongoing. attorneys for the ride share companies are scheduled back in october. a lot has changed since then. many believe the case is thin at best and will likely fail or more likely be dropped. >> the pandemic is not slowing

down. home buyers are just trying to make it in the bay. single family home prices hit a regard high. prices were up by 19% in october. the average price hit just over $1 million, up by 17% from last year. time to get a look at the forecast. it has been raining. we haven't seen that in so long, kari. it was a joyous occasion. >> of course because we are so glad every time it rains around here especially if it doesn't bring about a lot of problems with that and showers extending into the east bay and some light rain in the south county. the time line at 6:00 we're seeing spotty showers, at times may be heavy in a few areas and

by about 8:00 to 9:00 a lot of us clearing out but still some chances of spotty rain into the afternoon for the north bay. the rest of the bay area will be clearing out by this afternoon. we'll talk about how much rain you may have measured where you live coming up. mike, how is it looking right now for the commute? it's looking like i have better news, i think, for the majority of cars heading in through san francisco getting to the city westbound 80. that's your direction as we look at the map, wet roads across both sides of the bay. starting yesterday and still have wet effects on the roadway. eastbound 80 that does have the crash, so eastbound 80 your left lanes are blocked as you head past fremont street and on to the lower deck. if you're coming across the westbound direction you're okay. watch the slick roadways and the curves and off ramps. back to you. >> thanks so much, mike.

calling out san leandro, san ramon as well as hayward for heavy rain moving through right now. this may slow you down. and if you're able to wait a few minutes and allow this rain to pass before you head out the door. we'll be tracking the rain showers with storm ranger. a look at the forecast coming up. a great note about the east bay spots, kari. rain happening or happened, past tense, means slick roadways. the east shore freeway, rain on the lens makes it tougher to see. make sure the wiper blades are in good condition. traffic does flow into the city okay. we're looking at the golden gate bridge. a clear drive but water and minor flooding off 101 as well. we'll keep tracking that. good morning, i'm rahel solomon at cnbc headquarters. wall street set to open higher this morning.

stocks took a breather from the record rally. the dow falling nearly 170 points dragged down by names like walgreens, home depot and walmart. still stocks having a strong month on the back of positive news from pfizer and moderna about potential covid vaccines. the dow up more than 12%. the s&p 500 more than 10%. and that's even against the backdrop of rising cases. housing starts from target and lowe's. u.s. travel association says the decline reflects a dramatic falloff in business travel. the group warns another 1 million jobs could be lost without more government aid by year end. and best buy is teaming up with instacart to deliver same day delivery for all types of goods

the golden gate bridge. 4:46 this morning. let's get you ready for the day. meteorologist kari hall has a look at the forecast for us and what we can expect. kari? it looks so great to see the rain moving through the bay area especially seeing the rest of the forecast is pretty dry. so let's soak in every drop that's falling right now as we are taking a look at where we are seeing the downpours right now on storm ranger. that's the red scan that you're seeing there moving around the bay area. and giving us a second by second update on where we're seeing the wet weather. now we've seen the showers moving through and up to san rafael, as we move to the east bay the rain is heavier especially up around pittsburgh and will be approaching antioch within the next few minutes. we do have very heavy rain moving through danville as well as san ramon, blackhawk, and we're also seeing some rain down the peninsula right on 280 near wood side. heavy rain is moving in that

direction that may make some puddles. let's take a look at how much rain we've measured. it's been great to see the rainfall totals. napa about half an inch. about a little over 0.3 in san jose near alum rock almost a quarter inch of rain but downtown not as much. scotts valley had about an inch and a half. berkeley hills measures 0.8 of rain. morgan hill almost half an inch. in livermore almost a quarter inch in the tri-valley. a few lingering showers and then for the north bay a chance of rain by late morning into the early afternoon. for the most part we'll see the rain moving out. some breezy winds. tomorrow the rain will be out of here. we're only looking at highs that will reach into the upper 50s to

lower 60s. mike, how is it looking with the wet roads out there? >> that was a great warning you gave yesterday, have the wiper blades in good condition and watch the conditions this morning because they are wet. the green is highlighted, it's subtle, along the peninsula side. kari showed you the active rain in the oes bay and the possibility of some fog, a lot of moisture in the soil. getting to the lower deck of the bay bridge at fremont we have your left lanes. a traffic block getting on the lower deck. use caution. slick conditions. back to you. >> thank you, mike. it didn't take long for jurors to reach a verdict in the

norcal rapist. that verdict will be read this morning. 60-year-old roy charles waller is accused of attacks in six counties here in northern california including three here in the bay area. authorities arrested waller with the help of dna evidence. his trial took place in sacramento. jurors only received that case yesterday and had a verdict within hours. governor newsom not tipping his hand on who may fill kamala harris' senate seat. harris is currently the only black woman senator and some think he should consider that in his decision bringing barbara lee to mind. others argue california is nearly 40% latino but never had a latino senator suggesting he should consider xavier becerra or padilla. >> latinos are the largest population group and ever more important part of the california

electorate it seems this is the time. >> experts say it'll likely be a qualified candidate and a historic choice. state officials want to get necessary travel, l.a.x. is rolling out on site testing for travelers at three terminals. passengers are swabbed and then the tests are turned over in an on site rapid testing lab. it's set to open the first week of december. it will provide results within 24 hours. results won't be ready before travelers board planes but could help people avoid quarantining at their destination. dining inside a restaurant is off the table but bay area restaurants and bakeries are making traditional favorites for your picks. some restaurants have sold out. if you need a dessert you can get a pie order at butter love
