he'll pass without the family being able to say good-bye. >> how much time does he have? >> i don't think past midnight. >> reporter: the six hospitals reached capacity in michigan, and the ten rural counties in california out of icu beds the staff here like so many other hospitals around the country are exhausted. the days are 12 hours long and the shifts are 12 in a row. >> reporter: the sacrifices made are also personal. >> i don't get to see my mom because i'm scared they might get something from me, so we're all doing our part, and we're just hoping everything will do the same. >> reporter: inside one of the hospital's most restrictive areas, we met jose bonea who says he felt like he was drowning when he was admitted. so many on the front lines feel like they're under water. >> what's the hardest part. >> i think not knowing when this is going to end. >> reporter: the end still far

in today's top stories, a christmas miracle in south texas. the dramatic rescue of a 4-year-old boy who fell down a 44-foot well it took rescuers almost six hours to dig around the pit to reach the boy, who was trapped nine feet down and the water well was 10 inches wide. he's now in the hospital in stable condition. >> glad he's doing better. the u.s. space force is celebrating the graduation of seven recruits they will be working on monitoring and maintaining
