good friday morning to you. it is nice to see all of you ladies and the rest of you here at home. i'm kris sanchez. >> and i'm cierra johnson. marcus and laura are off. meteorologist kari hall is tracking the forecast. happy friday, kari. happy friday. we're going to see some nice weather for today. it starts out cold, and you definitely need to bundle up. in some spots in the inland areas we're dealing with frosty conditions. and then for the weekend it's all about the sunshine. the dry weather continues into next week, so just wanted to show you what you'll feel as you get ready to head out the door. we'll see the temperatures reaching into the upper 50s and low 60s. not a bad friday. we'll talk more about what's ahead in the forecast coming up. good morning, vianey. how is it looking for the early morning commute? good morning, kari. we have a friday light commute so far.

a couple fender benders that have cleared out nicely which has made room for plenty of green on my map which means everything is good and going and moving. no delays to the richmond bridge. eight minutes. westbound to the san mateo bridge only 12 minutes. i'll have another look coming up. kris? thank you, vianey. new this morning fire crews battling a warehouse fire this morning. you can see the flames shooting out of what seems to be the building in richmond. it is now up to two alarms with crews waiting on standby to help if needed. the cause is still under investigation. no word on any injuries at this point. we do know that crews will be on scene for at least a few more

hours. we'll continue to follow this developing story for you and bring you the updates as they come in. and a live look all across the bay area this morning. at midnight our regional stay-at-home order went into effect and will stay in effect until at least january 7th. right now the bay area is in the state's deep purple tighter res. that means restaurant is takeout only, delivery only. no more outdoor dining. hair salons and barber shops also have to shut down and retail stores can only have 20% capacity and a really rough time of year for that. we turn now to our race for vaccine coverage this morning. americans are awaiting final fda approval of moderna's vaccine candidate which could happen in the next day or so. yesterday an advisory board for the fda gave us overwhelming approval. if the moderna vaccine is approved for emergency use it

may turn out to be easier to distribute and can be stored in more standard freezers, unlike pfizer's vaccine, which requires special freezers capable of storing it at negative 94 degrees fahrenheit. >> it will make it easier for us to expand vaccinations to different parts of our systems. the news comes as hospitals across the bay area are already distributing pfizer's vaccine. stanford health is expected to begin injections of its workers today. and new insights, the second shipment will be much smaller. the state is expected to receive 233,000 doses next week, that's 40% of what it first promised. pfizer said it's not experiencing any production issues on its end. the white house deciding quality control as a reason for the delay and federal officials tell "the sacramento bee" accurate doses were not updated due to

defense department communication issues. northern california is the only region above the 15% threshold. the bay area in particular at 13%. san joaquin valley only has 0.7% available not just for covid patients, for anybody who needs an icu bed. now let's take a closer look at the bay area. only alameda county has 30% still available and five counties are now in the red zone with less than 15% availability. marin county has no nonsurge icu beds available. be careful, folks. with delays looking more likely san francisco will expand in-class learning alternative. mayor london breed held a

virtual celebration for the community hubs program. they have meals and wi-fi access to some 2,000 low-income students. no outbreaks were reported. the program is expected to expand in january. a hotel in yosemite national park is under fire for hosting hundreds of people for a thanksgiving feast. according to "the chronicle" the hotel served dinner to 300 to 400 guests with seating spread out over six hours. while the gathering did not violate any state or local health orders, it did contradict cdc guidance to keep holiday gatherings small and within the household. a spokesperson for airmark which runs the diner at the hotel says the din earp was served served

touchless buffet. all hotel employees did wear their masks. the pandemic is not slowing down home buyers who are trying to make it in the bay. a report by the california association of realtors says home sales continue to climb in the bay area despite many people moving to a different state. the average price is still over just $1 million. it is now up almost 19% from last year. the population declined in napa, sonoma, marin and san mateo but rose in all other counties. realtors say if renters continue to buy homes, those price also continue to rise. this week's wet weather leaving parts of mammoth mountain under a foot of new snow. they sent us video showing us the activity there. kari, what's good for mammoth probably very good for all of lake tahoe as well.

yeah, all of those destinations are closed for personal travel. our sierra snowpack is also our water storage. we're looking at some of those recent snowfall totals, mammoth had 11 inches of snow. home wood had 7 inches. also 4 at sugar bowl and kirkwood. 3 inches of snow with the last storm that moved through. now in the north bay check out ukiah. it's cold enough to snow with some moisture there. it's 32 degrees. it's all dry. we'll start out our day with some 30s and 40s across the bay area. talk about what's ahead in the week forecast coming up in a few minutes. vianey, how is it looking now for the commute? the roads are still pretty quiet which is always good, taking a look at the map. all the way from the east bay down to the south bay, in through the peninsula, no issues

kari? we're starting out cool and clear this morning. a different picture from yesterday at this time. we were starting out with some rain. so now that it's all dry, we are going to have a nice, sunny day. i know this is the last day of home schooling before we all get a break for the christmas holiday. can you tell i'm excited? a look at oakland's forecast. if you're looking for the chances for the kids to get out, run around in the backyard, we'll have a warm-up with temperatures today reaching into the upper 50s by early in the afternoon. it will be nice and sunny. let's head to the south bay. we're going to see a high of 60 degrees in east san jose and milpitas. for the east bay some upper 50s and low 60s, up to 58 in martinez. and along the coastline we're still in the mid to upper 50s here. 60 in san mateo. san francisco reaching into the upper 50s downtown and the north bay highs will reach up to the low 60s. novato reaching 61 degrees. as we go through this forecast we were hoping for some more rain to come in early next week,

the first day of winter. well, that rain is staying to the north. and then as we head closer to christmas eve and christmas day there will be a storm off the coast but not moving in just yet. so we may have maybe a christmas gift coming for us as we go into the end of next week. we'll be watching out for that. it's dry and we're looking at our temperatures that will start out very cold. for the inland areas we're going to feel some frosty conditions. temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. and then going into the afternoon it's warming up into the low 60s. once again the first day of winter is on monday and then we head into christmas eve with some highs in the upper 50s. we're looking at more of the same from san francisco, mostly upper 50s and sunshine through the forecast. vianey, how is it looking right now for the morning commute? well, kari, i do have two new crashes to tell you about. the first one is along southbound 880 right near the

262 connector. it looks like it's a two-car crash both in the center divider. no word yet on if there are any injuries. and i'm not seeing any major delays out of this. this just happened according to chp reports about ten minutes ago. it's just now being reported. i will keep a close eye on that. the other crashes northbound 680, this one is before the 24 interchange and it looks like this is a big rig versus the wall. so possibly the center divider. we're going to see if there are any injuries in that one as well. chp reporting. i will have an update on delays coming up. back to you. the norcal rapist may learn his fate as soon as today. roy w awealler was convicted fo string of assaults including three here in the bay area. the crimes went unsolved for years. his sentencing hearing takes

place today in sacramento. he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. new surveillance video is coming to light this morning. two years after the deadly mass shooting attack in thousand oaks down in southern california. you might remember 12 people died then. we have to warn you, some may find what you're about to see disturbing. multiple angles show police aric arriving at the bar and grill in 2018. one angle shows the shooter hiding out in the nightclub's office. that shooter later killed himself. new evidence just made public as part of a public report deeming the actions of law enforcement officers as justified. a los angeles mayor, eric garcetti, is pulling his name out of the hat to be part of joe biden's cabinet facing a major crisis at home. garcetti said that with covid cases skyrocketing and his 9-year-old daughter testing positive for covid and showing

symptoms, there is just no way he could think about leaving. the mayor says his daughter's symptoms, however, are mild and that he and his wife have tested negative for the virus. >> my family is going through what so many families across this city and this nation and around the world are experiencing. and we're doing exactly what our public health officials have asked us to do after a covid-19 exposure. we will isolate at least ten days from the time her symptoms first appeared and amy and i are quarantining in accordance with public health guidelines. i will conduct the business of our city every day. >> the announcement comes after health leaders say that icus in southern california are at capacity. federal authorities appear to be getting a handle on at least some of the widespread fraud at the edd announcing the arrest of four women tied to three separate schemes.

two are former edd employees, one in roseville and the other in san diego. one of the women is accused of filing 100 fake jobless claims and using the name dianne feinstein for one of the bogus claims. they believe the other two suspects worked in tandem and one was an inmate at a prison. authorities say these are expected to be the first of many arrests announced. a light moment following a tough loss on the field. next on "today in the bay," the wardrobe malfunction that had oakland raiders fans wishful thinking. but first, happening now, eight nuns living in the same milwaukee retirement home are now dead after suffering complications from covid. all eight passing within the last week, four on the same day. one of the sisters living at the facility tested positive on thanksgiving day which is believed to have led to the deadly outbreak. in july 13 nuns died at a convent near detroit and seven died at a center in new york.
