of the bay area. meteorologist kari hall is timing it all out in our forecast as "today in the bay" begins right now. good friday morning. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. marcus washington has the morning off. kari, you're watching storm ranger there. yeah, we've seen some of those showers, mostly light, moving across the bay area. but as we take a live look outside in san jose it is mostly dry, and we are going to see spotty, light showers over the next hour or so and then clearing out for the rest of the day. so the wet weather we're seeing this morning will not last throughout your friday. we'll talk more about that. take a look at storm ranger as well as the forecast coming up in a few minutes. how is it looking for early morning commuters? kari, we'll show the bay bridge toll plaza shot, the one from marin county with damp, wet roadways. the toll plaza itself, no traffic flow as far as any

failure to prevent the massive security breach. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. with less than two weeks to go in the trump presidency, some pro-say they want him out. a group held a rally last night at san francisco city hall before participating in a car caravan to the mission in castro. they say they're not convinced the transfer of power will be peaceful and say they're concerned about the president's lasting impact. >> and, yes, trump will be out, but what is he going to do afterwards? he had 100-plus people in the house that were still saying he was the president. >> the group plans for more rallies across the country tomorrow including one again in san francisco. >> and, of course, we have continuing coverage of what's playing out. breaking news sent right to our free nbc bay area news app. now to the pandemic, our stay-at-home order could be extended because a number of icu beds available are down to 3%.

the order kicks in when the regions fall under 15% availability. here is where we stand. santa clara county down to 1% availability. napa county is using surge icu beds. san francisco, sonoma and alameda are doing better with more than 20% availability. one of danville's restaurants that refused to follow health guidelines was briefly shut down last week n. recent weeks the restaurant was ticketed several times because over the holidays it kept its outdoor dining area open. the east bay times reports the county suspended the restaurant's health permit. on tuesday it was reinstated and now they are doing only takeout and delivery. some are not happy about governor newsom's school reopening plan. this afternoon they're holding a protest. the car caravan will start at 3:30 at oakland technical and ends with a news conference at

5:00 at the california state building on clay. students from san francisco and oakland are also pushing back against the governor's plan that gives cash bonuses to schools that reopen in february saying it rewards wealthy communities and ignores the needs of urban areas. new this morning a look at the pandemic's impact on san francisco schools. "the examiner" reports enrollment district wide dropped 2% from the fall of 2019 to the fall of 2020. it marks the biggest one-year decline in a decade. amounting to more than 1,000 students. district leaders are not sure if the decline is due to families moving out of the city or turning to other options like private schools and even home schooling. this morning our storm ranger busy tracking all that rain. a live look at our exclusive mobile doppler radar from the outside as it scans the skies. some parts of the bay area getting some weather -- some wet weather. meteorologist kari hall is tracking how long it will last. good morning, kari.

let's see what storm ranger is picking up now, in the north bay rain earlier this morning moving through santa rosa and parts of the north bay. to the south spotty sprinkles here as well as we are seeing some off-and-off showers in the santa cruz mountains. we haven't seen a lot of it moving through san jose because as you notice in the loop here the rain falls apart before it moves into san jose. we had some in san francisco as well as the north bay. it will quickly move out. we'll continue to track this as well as more updates for the weekend forecast. mike, how is it looking with the wet roads for the morning community? >> over my shoulder we have the green. over the bay we take that map to full screen. slippery conditions. not major flooding but definitely slicker conditions. be careful out there. we'll zoom down to the south bay where we have a couple of crashes. one circled at the bottom is the

be slippery along the way. we'll check in with our friend rahel. good morning. i'm rahel solomon of cnbc. wall street looks set to open higher after the rally we saw yesterday. the dow closing above 31,000 for the first time. it's on pace for a three-day winning streak. so this comes as investors looked past the violence in washington this week and look ahead to the prospect of more stimulus under a democratic controlled congress and white house. 29 trading days to go from 30,000 to 31,000, the shortest 1,000-point milestone since it took eight days to go from 25,000 to 26,000 in 2018. and in focus a key piece of economic data with the monthly jobs report, employers did likely cut back on hiring again last month with the forecast of just 50,000 new jobs added that would be the sixth straight month of slower job growth and the smallest monthly gain since may.

boeing will pay $2.5 million into whether it misled on the max that led to two deadly crashes. it will lift the legal cloud that's been over the company for two years. federal prosecutors have been probing high-profile lapses by boeing in telling the faa about the shortcomings on the max before and after the accident. the settlement includes a $243 million fine and more than $2 million in compensation to airline customers and families of the crash victims. and how about this one. elon musk now overtaking jeff bezos as the world's richest person. his net worth clocking in at an estimated $188.5 billion. as of yesterday morning. according to the bloomberg billionaires index. the fortune of musk boosted by the rise in tesla stock up more than 700% as investors continue to pour money into electric

let's start thisriday morning with a live look outside overlooking downtown san jose. nice lights sparkling, looks pretty clear for the moment. we made it to friday, yay. just have to make it through, get a taste of the weekend right around the corner. nice, kari. good weather? yes, we are going to have a very nice weekend, and we'll probably all just need to get outside and just breathe because we are going to see some sunshine and more comfortable temperatures. we're getting the rain in right now with storm ranger tracking

it all. we are seeing some of the spotty showers moving through. but it's not a lot of it and some of the more heavy rain showers that we've seen out of this system moving through parts of the north bay as we are looking at the loop of what happened with this storm system moving in. we can see those showers mainly over the north bay continuing to move on through, but looking at the rainfall totals, well, we've seen the rainfall making it up to about a tenth of an inch which is about what we're expecting. hopefully a few spots made more of that rain especially in the upper elevations. notice all the zeros over to the tri-valley, the south bay and down to the peninsula. as we take a live look in duplin, yodupliouble play dublin, some light rain over the next hour or so but it doesn't look like we'll see much here. and we're starting out cool with temperatures in the low 40s making it into the low 50s as we go into late morning. and then for the afternoon highs expect it to reach into the

upper 50s and low 60s. we're up to 62 degrees in napa today. 63 in morgan hill. san jose will reach up to 62 degrees and 69 in san francisco. so once this wave of the wet weather moves through by 10:00 we're seeing still lingering clouds but the rain will pretty much be done. going into the rest of the day, the clouds will start to get on out of here. for the weekend sunshine and some very nice temperatures. here is a look at the seven-day forecast. seasonable weather but how much it warms up next week. by wednesday and thursday it will feel like spring across the bay area as we reach into the upper 60s well above normal. we'll talk more about that. mike, what's going on right now for the commute? kari, even though the rain may not be in measurable amounts you can detect it on the roadway, mist and drizzle have made things perhaps slippery. over to the richmond to san rafael bridge. the volume is light but you see

the sheen on the roadway. water kicking up on the treads getting the cars if they are close behind which they're not. the map shows you a smooth drive all around the area. notice the green highlighting all around that map and pretty much around the bay. there is mist and drizzle. in the north bay circled a crash into fairfield. a smooth drive but in the south bay those two crashes we follow one at 237 and 880 on the shoulder. back to you. the outgoing trump administration will public new regulations to replace the program's current h1b immigration program with one based on priority for highest wage earners. it will take time to implement which means it may not be implemented. it's highly likely president

biden will roll back some or all of the program restrictions. speaking of the transition, the president-elect, the vice president-elect kamala harris will announce their economic and jobs team today in wilmington, delaware. biden will nominate rhode island governor as secretary of commerce. he'll nominate boston mayor marty walsh as secretary of labor who, if confirmed, would be the first union member to serve in the role in 50 years. confirmation should be easy enough. the senate will be in the hands of democrats. following the attack on the capitol, inauguration planners re-assessing security. biden's team held a leadership call to discuss safety issues, but they're not revealing any of the new details. a state lawmaker confirms she is infected with covid-19. california congresswoman michelle steel says she had no symptoms but took a test as a precaution and it came back positive. she was sworn into office this
