5:46 am
on monday he met with a team of ten republican senators. meantime on capitol hill, republican not to strip representative liz cheney of her leadership position. cheney supports donald trump's impeachment. that has angered the trump wing of the party, which wanted her demoted. that didn't happen. in fact the reported vote wasn't even close. behind closed doors members voted 145-61 against punishing cheney. now, the other big decision involves representative marjorie taylor greene. the republicans are under pressure to take her committee assignments away. she has in the past said that an airplane did not hit the pentagon during 9/11, that the parents at sandy hook elementary staged their own children's deaths and she endorsed internet calls that call for the murder of colleagues in the house. the full house, which remember is run by democrats, will vote today whether to strip greene of her assignments if her party
5:47 am
doesn't do it itself. >> it is integrity and the decency of this institution. now, if this isn't the bottom line, i don't know where the hell the bottom line is. >> greene had tweeted out yesterday the democrats don't want her sitting on the house education and labor committee because she's, quote, white, a woman, wife, mother, christian, conservative and business owner. now, her boss on that committee, fellow republican and ranking committee member virginia fox of north carolina is all of those things as well. she owns a plant nursery business and especially conservative, she is conservative. she voted against certifying the election for joe biden. i can't find an example of the full house stripping a member of their committee assignments in the past. the house has the ability to do it but it's been up to house parties in the past.
5:48 am
kevin mccarthy says greene regrets her statements. you can follow me on twitter i'm @scottmcgrew. >> thanks so much, scott. 5:47 right now. as many count down to kickoff at the super bowl, there's new covid concerns. we have a live look at tampa, florida. two kansas city chiefs players are now on the reserve covid list. this comes after a barber tested positive. 20 people, including quarterback patrick mahomes were in line for a haircut but only demarcus robinson and daniel kilgore came into close contact with the barber. they'll still be able to play sunday as long as they test negative. let's go to "today in the bay's" marcus washington. >> hey, marcus, you're looking at other super bowl things that are trending this morning. >> absolutely. so you know what, a bay area native will be taking center stage at the super bowl. i'm talking about educator

california. now, where it turns yellow, that's abnormally dry condition but that's an improvement after some of the spots around big sur last week got 14 inches of rain with that atmospheric river. despite all of the rain that we had in the north bay, we still have extreme drought conditions up there and for much of the bay area we have a severe drought, still ongoing, but there have been improvements in the santa cruz mountains down to the central coast. we are seeing high pressure setting up so that means dry weather for us, a lot of sunshine. back behind that there's not a lot of weather systems coming in. so the outlook for the next two weeks shows below average rainfall. hopefully we can see a turn-around by the end of the month. we are looking at some at least nice weather for getting outside. our inland areas will reach into the upper 60s this weekend and just slightly cooler for early
