going on since the early stages of the pandemic, but now with so many teachers struggling to get vaccinated, it is really heating up it may be the first lawsuit of its kind the city of san francisco is now taking the dramatic step of suing its own school district to force it to reopen during the pandemic. >> more than 64,000 san francisco students are suffering. they're turned into zoombies enough is enough. >> reporter: many teachers say they bowon't go back into the classroom until they're vaccinated. >> it's important to know that the fear we're feeling is very real. >> reporter: the district and the teachers union are locked in tense negotiations after educators refused to return to in-person learning on monday. >> no one should have to choose between their life and their livelihood and being able to

work. >> reporter: so far at least 24 states have made teachers eligible for the vaccine but the cdc says it's not essential if other mitigation procedures are in place. a recent cdc report concluded there's been little evidence that schools have contributed meaningfully to increased transmission, the debate leaving parents like carolina in chicago in limbo. >> no one can wash their hands of this chaos. >> reporter: here in new york city, the nation's largest school district, parents are still awaiting for when middle and high schools reopen. now to a growing outrage of a story we first brought you yesterday. a now viral video from nbc news shows shoppers and workers in a grocery store not wearing masks. here's nbc's sam brock. >> reporter: this video showing

u.s. stocks thursday extended the market rally for a fourth straight day. the dow surged 332 points while the s&p and nasdaq both closed at record highs. adding to the sentiment, better than expected weekly employment claims today investors will be eyeing the jobs report. major retailers like amazon and walmart raked in billions over the last year while more than 100,000 small businesses had to shut down but a new online marketplace called nearby wants to help local businesses stay alive.
