marjorie taylor greene who has promoted false qanon conspiracy theories spoke out after being stripped of her committee assignments in the house. what's she saying? >> reporter: well, this first-term republican is defiant and she is lashing out at democrats and a group of republicans who voted against her to say that she should be removed from her committee assignments as a disciplinary action for her comments that had been incendiary and false and her support for untrue conspiracies. >> i'm fine with being kicked off of my committees because it would be a waste of my time. do you know who i am? i'm a very hard worker and i'm proud of it. so now i have a lot of free time on my hands, which means i can talk to a whole lot more people. >> reporter: so you get the sense that taylor greene is certainly not looking at committee assignments as a way to get legislation for her constituents passed. kristin, peter. >> kelly o'donnell, of course

we're supportive. former president trump helped in that. thank you. ashley parker is the white house bureau chief for the washington post as well as an nbc news senior political analyst. let's start by talking about jobs and the economy. we'll put up a graphic on the screen for folks at home. this is where things have come so far. you can see in terms of jobs, we have effectively stalled in the growth since the beginning of the pandemic. the democrats say this bolsters their argument for massive covid relief plan with or without republicans. the simple question is how long will it be before americans see that relief, see those direct payments in their mailbox? >> reporter: well, president biden has made clear he feels the urgency of the moment and he is moving incredibly quickly. we saw the reconciliation voted on on friday, and the goal is to have this moved in two weeks, something by mid march at the absolute latest, which is when some of those benefits that already existed start to expire. >> and, actually, as we were

just talking about, it has been exactly one month since that attack on the u.s. capitol and the republican party grappling with the post trump era. we saw the tensions on display over this battle of marjorie taylor greene and her committee assignments. where does the republican party go from here, ashley? >> reporter: that is the existential question for the party. you saw leader mccarthy try to create a big tent casting out neither marjorie taylor greene, nor liz cheney who on the opposite spectrum voted for the impeachment of president trump. we don't know. we don't know the power donald trump will have over the party in 2022 and beyond and that's something party leaders are trying to figure out, just how much room they have with that base that was incredibly loyal to donald trump but is not a traditional republican base. >> so, ashley, let's talk about impeachment for a moment. hard to believe we're going to see the former president's now second impeachment trial in just

with you. on friday the tsa announced it will be cracking down on people who refuse to mask up. the agency could fine you anywhere from $250 for a first offense all the way up to $1500 for repeat offenders. president biden signed an executive order requiring people to wear a mask on public transportation. it was a bizarre night for kevin durant after he was yanked from the court not once but twice due to nba health and safety protocol. durant was pulled from the starting lineup from the nets game after coming into contact with someone who received an inconclusive covid test. officials cleared durant to enter the game but then during the third quarter durant was pulled out again when his contact tested positive. he could be side lined for even more games in the days ahead. and fans around the world are remembering legendary actor

tampa, but developments overnight are driving attention off the gridiron. chiefs assistant linebackers coach brett reid, the son of head coach andy reid, was involved in a three car crash thursday according to kansas city police, injuring two children, one severely. a 5-year-old who sustained life threatening injuries. a police search warrant application states an officer could smell a moderate odor of alcoholic beverage from reed. he acknowledged to having two to three drinks and taking adderall by prescription per the report. the chiefs issued a statement saying we're in the process of gathering information and we will have no further comment at this time. our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. this is not the first time the reid family. in 2012 reid's eldest son garrett died of a drug overdose at the age of 29. now the nfl balancing the crash and a covid pandemic as americans prepare to watch the

super bowl in tampa. the first city to host a big game with its own team, the bucs, playing for a title. >> i think it's what we need now. >> reporter: but public safety is also top of mind. mayor jane castor implemented rules for mask wearing at indoor and outdoor events. still, some are skeptical that will stop covid spread. the nfl will enforce strict rules on masks, hand out safety kits to fans and highlight the heroism of health care workers inviing 7500 to attend including rocky walker. he's a chaplain who's comforted hundreds of families and patients at mount sinai covid ward and who happens to be a huge chiefs fan. walker was personally asked to attend by new england patriots owner robert kraft. >> the people he's taking down, we represent the millions of health care workers, those here at mount sinai hospital across new york city, across the country who, as you said, place
