but in the last couple of seconds we got a call on the blotter for oakland. we'll show you the map with green sensors, folks like to wake up to that as we start our two and a half hours solid of news over here. looking toward oakland, 880, just at the market street off-ramp near that ramp reports of a fire getting details from oakland department, you may see that from the freeway, the off-ramp as i understand is still open. the bigger view shows there may be patchy fog perhaps through parts of the north bay but no alerts from chp, laura. we'll track them. back to you. 4:32. new some scary moments for people living in a south bay apartment complex. we've got new video of a fire in san jose that started in a carport and spread to at least two units. it happened on colemar drive, firefighters had to evacuate the 16-unit complex while they knocked down the fire that destroyed at least three cars.

one resident saw the flames and immediately got himself, his disabled wife and another disabled relative out. >> first was getting people out, so i told my roommate, let's go, we have to go now because the car is going to explode because the cars are on fire. >> no one was hurt. the cause of that fire is under investigation. certainly a big week for the bay area, starting today you'll be able to sign up to get a shot at the largest mass covid vaccination site in the state at levi stadium in santa clara. "today in the bay's" marianne favro has a look to expect. >> reporter: on tuesday, 5,000 people are expected to be vaccinated here at levi stadium and eventually, this site is expected to vaccinate 15,000 people a day. when a new mass vaccination site opens tuesday here at levi stadium, it's considered a touchdown in a very high stakes

battle against coronavirus. >> it will have a huge impact. we need to vaccinate as many people as possible in a short amount of time as possible. that is not only because of the pandemic in general, but because of the specter of the variants cycling that may become more resistant to the vaccines. >> the site is open to health care workers and people living in santa clara county over the age of 65. it's operated by the santa clara county public health system. a county spokesperson told us you can make an appointment online for a vaccination at the site. 949ers are offering resources and support to run the massive site that will eventually offer 15,000 shots in the arm a day. and there are other promising developments in the nationwide effort to vaccinate more people, including the development of a new vaccine by johnson & johnson which the fda is expected to review at the end of this month.

>> i do think of it as a game changer because it's just a one-shot deal. you don't have to keep track of folks, people can come and get it and be done with it. it is not requiring super cold temperatures with storage. so there may be less of fears of wastage. >> reporter: and on thursday, 100 cvs stores in california will start offering the vaccine, another step in the effort to get 70% of the state's population vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity. in santa clara, marianne favro, "nbc bay area news." about 15,000 new coronavirus cases are being reported statewide. that's about two-thirds the peak numbers we saw in mid-december. yesterday it was also reported 295 more people have died, nearly 40% below the day day two-week average. a sudden break-through in san francisco where teachers and the districts have been at odds

over the reopening of classrooms. they reached a tentative agreement to start reopening schools but there's lots of details to be worked out. for one thing, there's no time line but parents who are urging action call it a positive development. >> while we are hopeful and glad to see that this, you know, to see this announcement today, i think we're all feel that there's probably more work to be done to make it a deal, an agreement that brings kids back this spring. >> the agreement calls for some in-class learning, provided the city drops into the red tier and teachers receive vaccines. if the city drops into the orange tiers, teachers can return without shots. city attorney dennis herrera calls the deal nothing more than a plan to make a plan and he says he will not withdraw that recent lawsuit. this afternoon, palo alto parents upset at the school district's reopening plans, plan to make their voices heard. they plan to protest outside the

district office after it announced middle and high schools are unlikely to return to the classroom this school year. last week superintendent don austin told families state reopening guideline also be hard to implement. peninsula native tom brady hard to argue he's not the greatest after, in tampa bay, brady and the buccaneers dominated last year's champs, the kansas city chiefs. the chiefs came in as favorites but super bowl lv was in the box, he threw for three touchdowns. and tampa bay won it going away 31-9. brady wins a super bowl for the seventh time and super bowl mvp award for the fifth time. lots of mostly maskless celebrations in surrounding ng that win. tampa bay championship for the first time in nearly 20 years.

work with apple. it says it's received several requests from a number of companies but nothing has yet been decided. now, you may recall last week, reports said that apple could build a car at a kia factory in georgia. separate reports say the talks are on hold because apple was upset that news of the discussions was leaked, possibly by hyundai. and a big day for amazon warehouse workers especially in alabama, it will be an historic vote to unionize today. on friday the national labor relations board or nlrb rejected amazon's attempt to delay the vote which included a motion to demand votes take place in person, not exactly something that people want to contemplate during the virus pandemic. mail-in voting will be continued as planned and really to decide whether the alabama warehouse, which by the way has 6,000 workers will join a junity of the afl-cio. keep an eye, the latest

a very good monday morning to you. taking a live look outside, downtown san jose. pretty clear start. a little early. i haven't left the house yet this morning, not surprisingly, so i'm assuming it's a little cool out there. you know who knows? meteorologist kari hall. >> good morning. yes, it is cold out there especially in our inland valleys with temperatures in the 30s. overall we're looking at a lot of clouds today. we're not going to see as much sunshine as we had over the weekend. near normal temperatures continue for the rest of the week as rain arrives on thursday, looking forward to that. let's get a look at what to expect today. san jose we've got one more week before winter break, so we are making it through today with la

there won't be a lot of sunshine today as our high temperatures reach up to 62 degrees. here we're up to 61 today in martinez and in the north bay. mostly some highs near 60 degrees with once again some cloudy skies. we're seeing a very weak disturbance passing by, not going to bring us a lot of rain, maybe a couple of sprinkles but several more storm systems passing by this week. the first one moves through on thursday and another one on sunday. looks like we could see a break in between so we're looking at for this first round of rain coming in, maybe about 0.1% to 0.25", not a lot here so we'll see some rain in the forecast for the week which is great news because it's been dry the past few days and it will be dry as we head through at least the middle of the week. we'll get a little bit more sunshine tomorrow and all clear on wednesday before that rain

boat catches fire on bethel island. east contra costa fire responded to the call just after 10:00 at the bethel island marina. crews say the fire was fully engulfed when they arrived. the owner of the 30-foot cabin cruiser lives on board. he has not been accounted for. the cause of the fire is under investigation. also new one san jose family this h their sleep interrupted when a car slammed into their garage. it happened just after midnight on center road not far from monterey. a woman living in the home heard a loud zoom, rushed out, saw a black audi crashed into her garage. the driver apologized and asked her not to call police because he didn't want a du pirks. dui. in the video you can see the driver taken into custody. oakland's new police chief will officially be sworn in as the city's top cop. mayor libby schaaf made the announcement friday leronne

armstrong will be oakland's new police chief. he's been with the police department for 20 years and most recently deputy chief. new today, oakland leader also talk about new efforts to battle the surge. recent crime in the city's downtown chinatown neighborhood is suddenly surveillance video sh attack last week that later led to an arrest. it's just one of more than a dozen recent cases as part of today's news conference leaders will announce a new reward to find those responsible in three other violent attacks. contra costa county's district attorney is under fire this morning. "the chronicle" reporting diana bectin held an outdoor party in august. bectin said in a statement on facebook she called local health officials for guidance ahead of the event and says all guests wore masks and followed social distancing rules. new woes for the problem-plagued employment development department.

"nbc bay area responds" next. happening now, hundreds of people gathered in myanmar's main city in a new protest against last week's military coup that ousted the elected government. they're demanding the release from detention from the country's ousted leader and other top figures from her national league of democracy party. authorities had cut access to the internet as the protests grew saturday, fanning fears of a complete information blackout.

love from southwest airlines. >> chris chmura hose you how we got the case off the ground. >> tim irwin and his wife booked a southwest flight to atlanta to see their daughter get her graduate degree. they wanted to convert their tickets to points but there was a hiccup with his wife's account and couldn't get anyone at southwest to help. that left 670 bucks up in the air. he contacted us, we contacted southwest. here's what it told us our customer relations team will reach out to the customer directly. they did. tim says a rep. then called, apologized, and personally walked him through the process of reclaiming his $670. he wrote us a note afterward and said "i do not believe it would have been fixed without your intervention." we've heard from lots of people who canceled flights because of covid-19 and now they have flight credit. tim's case brings up a really important point. those credits probably have an expiration date on them.
