seen at dodgers stadium and that reason, simple math. the county does not have enough available vaccines and some bay area sites are now also feeling the pinch. san francisco's ccsf site closed because of the same problem and bay area counties forced to ration their vaccines. starting today, you can get a covid vaccine if you qualify at your local cvs and can get an appointment. cvs is partners with the federal government to administer vaccines. it's free. right now you must be 65 or older or a health care worker. here are some locations, more than a dozen in the bay area as you see highlighted there. once again, you must have an appointment. there are available slots in southern california and central california, but not in the bay area at last check. as soon as more doses arife, which is expected in the next few weeks, more appointments will open up. there's certainly a lot to keep track of, so to cut through

>> yes, he's kind of -- my a li spoiled. >> so kari, when are we going to walk the dog today? any time today. nk you'll just have to maybe jump over a couple of pulesddarlier in the day, but the rain is starting to clear out, but as that system moves out, there is another one right behind that, and it's set to move in tomorrow. you can see all those clouds but the storm system itself is not all that strong. so look at where we are seeing the rain, light snow coming down that will continue to taper off over the next couple of hours, and looking back at how much we measured, the highest rainfall total of course mt. tam with 1 3/4" and over 1/2" of rain in santa rosa, hay wade over 1/2" as well with san francisco about 1/2" of rain and san jose about 1/10". we'll see drying conditions today and this is the last week

before ski week. morgan hill we'll see temperatures in the upper 40s and then the sky starting to clear out just a bit, some peeks of sunshine today, as our temperatures head into the upper 50s. now, it will still be a cool day, but once again, we are dry, and then going into tomorrow, looks like those showers will be very scattered and coming in early in the morning, starting at 6:30, we're stopping it here. we can see the rain over parts of the north bay, pushing into the south bay by about 8:00 to 9:00 in the morning, and then the rest of the day is looking pretty good, so if you're making plans to get out this weekend, watch out for early morning showers. our next round of rain after that comes in early on monday morning. so taking a look at how much rain we'll see, not a whole lot here, maybe another 0.1" of rain over the next couple of days. as we go into valentine's day, it's looking dry but once again we'll start out monday morning with another round of some scattered showers coming through. mike, the morning commute

weather wise is looking good. what's happening out on the roads? >> it's looking pretty good but weather wise there are a couple of things to report. we'll take you out to the maps, over in the east bay, in alameda county, oakland, a couple of those yellow diamonds, those are minor flooding reported. the biggest report comes in for a few lanes off telegraph and 24. walnut creek the outer drainage, and the fire reported near the dublin interchange south 680 at 580, probably a warming fire, not much. more slowing 84 headed toward the construction at the junction with 680. i believe that's the crew moving and slowing as they clear cones. so we'll continue to track that, getting down in towards sunol. the rest of the bay moves nicely, a quick look shows you 580 getting in toward the dublin interchange, that portion is unaffected, just a little damp. be careful. back to you. >> good advice, thank you, mike. the emotions still raw for

the family of the first known covid-19 death in the united states. it's now been more than a year since the death of patricia dowd. she was from san jose. >> only now for the f has the story you'll only see on nbc bay area. >> reporter: kayla dowd has spent the past year in mourning and for the first time, sat down to talk about her mom, patricia, the first confirmed covid-19 death in the u.s. >> she was my best friend. we did a lot of things together. i went to her for everything, just like all my problems, if i needed a hug, she gave me the hugs. >> reporter: kayla is her only child. we talked with her and her aunt, patricia's sister, socially distant in a ventilated ill. patricia started feeling ill the

day before last year's super bowl. >> she was sick and complained about body aches and that was it. >> reporter: days later, on february 6th, while working at home alone, she collapsed and died. >> i came home and i found her. that was -- so hard, because just i saw her on the floor, and at first, i just grabbed my phone, and i called 911. >> i just couldn't believe it. it was like, it was not real for a really long time. >> reporter: the coroner said it was a heart attack, but they asked for an autopsy, stunned that that's what would take this 57-year-old woman they described as fit, healthy, and fiery. after tests in mid-april, the county told the family she died of covid-19 complications. they still don't know how she got it. >> they said that she was the first person. i was like, i don't think she

was. i think someone had it before her, like this can't be happening to my family. >> reporter: can you describe what it was like seeing the nation, many people going into lockdown, masking and social distancing, many people taking it seriously and many people not taking it seriously enough? >> it is frustrating and people who don't believe in it, who think it's a hoax, that's what really angered me the most, because i'm like, i know what it's like. >> reporter: january 14th, though, this year, then president-elect biden was laying out his plans on how he was going to fight the pandemic. in the first minute, he talked about your mother. >> on february the 6th in 2020, patricia dowd took her last breath at home under the california sun. >> reporter: what did it mean to you when you heard that? >> the second i heard him say her name, i just burst into

tears. it's just, it was just amaing that he took the time to even like say her name, so it meant a lot to me, and i want to write a letter to him, or i already have. i have to send it, but it was amazing. >> reporter: on the anniversary of her death, family and friends held a small socially distant ceremony at a santa cruz beach. >> good pictures of her. >> reporter: when you look around her home, as if trish dowd knew she needed to bottle up her life's memories, a life well lived and like hundreds of thousands that have and will follow, cut short. >> that's what i loved about her, always positive and always happy and laughing. >> reporter: in the south bay, ian cull, "nbc bay area news." >> so important to hear the personal stories. happening now, china's mars probe has reached the red
