history this past weekend becoming the first female marine recruits to train at camp pendleton at the base's nearly 100-year history nbc's meagan fitzgerald has the story. >> reporter: history in the making. >> very exciting for sure. >> reporter: for the first time, women recruits will join the men here at the training corps depot in san diego it's the first integrated company of marines to go through this kind of training west of the mississippi. >> i've always told myself, if guys can do it, girls can absolutely do it as well i guess this is the moment to prove that >> reporter: the significance of this moment, not lost on anyone. >> they're doing the same thing we are we're all going through it together >> reporter: these female recruits joining more than 300 men as they begin their grueling marine boot camp training. it's a rite of passage, but for women it's stepping into history. >> we don't really care who
