probably most importantly, student athletes, are aoe lated to learn they can play again. schools and clubs can resume the sports you see on the screen only in counties where covid case rates are low enough. football, rugby and water polo will require weekly covid testing. counties must also have less than 14 cases per 100,000 people. the other catch is that counties can overrule the state guidance. we reached out to several counties, and they said they are still reviewing the changes. athletes and coaches are encouraged. >> it's crucial to recruitment and our self-esteem as football players. some of us cherish this game with our heart and soul. we, you know -- it's another chance to prove ourselves every week when we play this game. >> 27 counties across california meet the standard for outdoor competition, including seven of

mobile doppler radar. we had a couple of light rain spots pushing through now. you can see the majority completely cleared out for the most part. what that is going to leave behind is a drying day ahead. let's look at your daytime highs. in the south bay, northwest winds at 13 miles per hour. san jose, 59 degrees. east san jose, 60 degrees. very comfortable. not too hot, not too cold. oakland, 61. concord, 63. antioch, 63.mateo, 58. light winds 8 miles per hour. it will get a little breezier through san francisco and around the coastline. downtown, 58 degrees. and engel side, 56. ukiah 57. what do we have in store? wind gusts in direction speed, we will see the wind gusting a little bit more in san francisco. so if you had plans to head over there, definitely bundle up. the biggest thing heading into

tonight is going to be the drop in temperatures. we will wake up to possibly frosty conditions. not snow. but i did want to show you lake tahoe snow. using our weather under ground camera. look at where our current snowpack stands. north, 67%. central, 75%. and the south, 53%. statewide, that puts us 66% of average. so we made a good, you know, amount of progress when we had the winter storms. but we can always use more because that is part of our water supply. let's take a look at the next seven days in inland areas. once we dry out, we will also warm up. upper 60s and low 70s for the middle of the week, tuesday, wednesday. look at that. plenty of sunshine. so if there was a time to wash your car, i would say tomorrow you would be okay to wash midafternoon for sure tomorrow. 59 monday. upper 60s by tuesday and wednesday for san francisco. so keep that in mind as we head into the workweek ahead.

welcome back. 7:50 on your saturday morning. cloudy skies over walnut creek as vianey said, she said it will end up being a lovely saturday with temperatures in the 50s and the 60s. could we soon see more planned pg&e outages to act for the area where most trees are prone to falling on power lines. state authorities are pushing back. investigative reporter jackson van der becken as this inside story. >> reporter: this tree is suspected of falling onto a pg&e power line and sparking a deadly wildfire last year in shasta county. he called a terror on the people of california and now wants pg&e to expand

preemptively cutting off power to consider how many trees could fall on live power lines during high winds. . >> he has the ability to take a step back on what seems logical and what doesn't seem logical. . >> a former regulator with the public utilities commission. >> i think it makes sense to understand how many different trees can be causing problems for you. >> reporter: while pg&e doesn't object to the order, they warn putting it in place could trigger massive and more protect power shut-offs. it could be counterproductive and endanger the public by hindering first responders, stranding medically dependent people in their homes, and crippling the very cell phone service needed for emergency evacuations. prolonged power outages could have significant impacts. the head of the governors office wrote to the judge adding his order may require pg&e to
