influenced by the wind. i wanted to show that because on the map we did mark a crash that is just south of that camera and no slowing and no lane changes. i think that crash just cleared. you may have get a traffic break coming down the east short freeway. >> tnkmuch, mike. developing right now golfing legend tiger woods recovering from extensive surgery to repair his right leg and ankle. he became trapped in a rollover accident. >> the doctors say he is recovering and awake. >> reporter: he is recovering and awake after a long surgical procedure that included inserting a rod into his right leg and multiple screws and pins in his foot and ankle, major injuries for one of the most famous athletes of all time.

woods' crushed suv rolled over multiple times and was found on an embankment with air banks deployed. firefighters needed an ax to extricate woods. >> thankfully the interior was more or less in tact which gave him the cushion to survive what would have been otherwise a fatal crash. >> there was no evidence of impairment and he was wearing a seat belt. one of his friend on the pga tour with a tearful reaction. >> i'm sick to my stomach. it hurts to see one of my closest friends get in an accident. i just hope he's all right. >> woods went to stanford for two years where he won six usga championships. the golfers here today were turned to hear of the crash. >> it's kind of a gut punch

because he's been through so much. you immediately go to something kind of bad. i don't know. you just hope the best for him. >> in 2009 woods crashed his suv outside of his florida mansion. soon after his marriage and personal life unravelled and in 2017 he was arrested for dui with pain killers and other drugs in his system. but he has since made a comeback. his injuries are not considered life threatening but the golfing career of arguably one of the most influence athletes ever hangs in the balance. >> ian cole, "today in the bay." >> if we've learned anything over the years, it's to never count tiger out. his former girl friend also writing, playing for t.w. right now. there are dozens and dozens of celebrities sending their well

wishes to tiger. >> much more coverage coming up. and the school district decides to bring back some of its students for one hour a week. they allowed an agreement to return into groups on wednesdays for one hour. the superintendent says it is a safe way to transition to hybrid learning. parents will rally on friday demanding students return to the classroom for longer than one hour per week. >> it's a big step forward to reopen schools in san francisco. the school board unanimously approving a tentative agreement from unions. it includes prioritizing vaccines for teachers, covid testing, along with enhanced cleaning and health screenings. the goal is to resume in-person

instruction before the end of the academic year. in the meantime parents and students plan to participate later this morning. if you live in marin or san mateo counties, certain businesses like gyms and movie theaters will reopen for the first time in three months. indoor dining resumes at 25% capacity. live to san francisco where it's just a matter of time before the city moves into the red tier as well. city health officials could make them move as early as next week. being in the red tier is one of the requirements needed for san francisco to reopen. >> now to a developing story in the east bay. a coyote responsible for five bite attacks sending panics in the neighborhood. we are in lafayette with the

latest. >> i have a bunch of children that live in town and they're of a size where animals like that would prey on them. >> he is very concerned of an animal preying on people in this area. >> it takes a lot to come out into this space. >> reporter: a young man was attacked on thursday night. they weren't told about the incident. lab results through dna testing determined that the coyote is most likely connected to four other attacks. >> they managed to isolate dna from the microscopic supplies of saliva where the teeth penetrated the pants and sure enough they came back with a coyote dna profile that matched the attacking animal of the prior four incidents. >> the first of the four attacks happened in july. one of them near the high school. what's even more disturbing, a young girl was bitten just last week.

wildlife officials spending days in the neighborhood canvassing the area, warning people about the vicious animal. >> it's unheard of. i've been around 24 years, i've never heard of anything like this. >> and capturing coyotes is not easy. officials monitoring traps on private property to avoid hurting or killing domestic pets. >> they're migrating back and forth at different places. that i am put the transin those locations. >> he says he's seen packs of coyotes before. he hopes they catch this one. >> all the morning reason to be concerned. if this one comes out and is attacking people, something is really wrong. a small plane making an emergency crash landing on a busy highway overpass in livermore just shy of an airport runway. it happened near the evening commute near isabelle avenue.

the nasdaq didn't quite break even but had been down as much as 4%. jay powell said the fed will not change its policy stance of ultra low interest rates for some time. he says the outlook on the economy is still uncertain amid the pandemic and 10 million still unemployed. fears about inflation have risen as government stimulus could force the fed to hike to get res on new home sales, earnings from lowe's and powell is testifying in front. house financial services committee. more companies say they plan to make their temp jobs a permanent part of their post-pandemic workforce. 40% of companies say they're going to make temp jobs permanent. about two-thirds of workers today are considering temp jobs

themselves or part-time work to earn a little bit more money. also the job app. and google announcing a new set of features coming to devices on androids. they include a new password checkup tool. a way to schedule your text and other improvements to products such as talk back, maps, assistants and android auto. it will alert you to passwords that had previously been exposed. this will be on your phone, too, and check your credentials against a list of compromised passwords. also on the auto, you'll be able to play "jeopardy." i'm not sure that's great while you're driving but for long drives can be a lot of fun. >> a little quiz show in your

morning. the teams are here, ready to get you out the door and starting your day. today it's a little bit cooler out there, kari. >> just a little bit, not too bad. we have clear sky and temperatures in the 30s and 40s in some spots. here we are checking out dublin and 580. we have a morning start at 42 degrees and we'll see the temperatures warming up. at 11:00, 64 degrees, we are going to enjoy sunshine as we reach into the 70s once again. this is coming down just a few degrees from yesterday so i don't think we'll see any record high temperatures once again but we'll be up to 72 in concord, 52 in san francisco and 70 in the north bay in santa rosa. now as we turn our attention to

the concerns that we have, well, it will be a windy day and those will really start to pick up after 10:00 this morning and continue through 10:00 this evening. that's when the wind advisory will be in effect for all of the areas shaded in yellow, including elevations above 1,000 feet or the gusts may reach up to 65 miles per hour. most of us won't feel winds that high but it will be breezy as we go through our hour. by-hour forecast. we'll see the winds in santa rosa, as well napa, concord and liver more up to about 35 miles per hour throughout much of the afternoon into the evening and then gradually those winds will start to calm down later on tonight. into the start of the day tomorrow. so high pressure is moving away. we're seeing the arrival of some cooler a and low pressure just to the north. that's what is making the winds rush across the bay area. as we go into the weekend, it will start to warm up once again

and no rain still in our forecast over the next seven days. we keep looking farther down the line to see if we can get a chance of showers in here but still as of now it will reman dry and we'll see our winds pick up again on saturday and that will further dry out all of our vegetation that we have. it's been nice to see those green hills but unfortunately we may start to see them turning brown over the next week or so because we haven't had much rain here. mike, you're watching the roads. anything popping up out there? >> kari, there's a lot of road work going on now so be careful of the flashing lights. 101, a number of reports from chp, the grid does have a lot of work that goes on in the overnight hours to keep the roads in good within. expressway a crash off to the shoulder possibly affecting one

the federal bureau of land management picked up the tab on that one, which means it gets passed on to you as well. repeated efforts to reach the boat's owner have gone unanswered. there's no immediate estimate on how much oil may have leaked. >> palo alto's recent decision to use license plate readers is reportedly raising privacy concerns. council members purchased two new license plate readers earlier this month. palo alto reports that too many people who work in nearby commercial zones take up the valuable neighborhood space. the devices are supposed to save money and provide better data but critics argue those devices cross the line for residence surveillance and threaten privacy. >> new this morning, a plan to add 75 digital bilboards across

san jose. the plan has been in the works for years. years ago there was a city-wide ban on new bill boards. >> next, the secret message that was included in the huge parachute used by nasa's perseverance rover. >> happening now, a multi-million dollar home in washington, d.c. burned to the ground and quickly spread to two nearby homes in the expensive woodley park neighborhood. this morning at least three people are without a place to live and one firefighter is recovering. about 75 fire personnel responded to the 7,000 square foot home. the cause of the fire under investigation. fire officials say the home was under renovation when the fire broke out.
