happening. we have that cold front pretty much making its exit already. it was pretty quick moving. just as we forecasted, it moved in late last night, passed through with heavy rain at times. and it was also very gusty. the national weather service say it managed to get a gust of 47 miles per hour. and it was even gustier in the north bay. san francisco, 47 degrees. here's how it looks. we have pretty nice skies. a mix of sun and clouds. walnut creek, 45. and our current temperatures chilly in napa at 38. overall, notice doppler radar things will quiet down. by the afternoon, we're going to get partly cloudy. so we will talk about your daytime highs in a few minutes. . >> thanks so much. we begin this morning with an overnight announcement for students and parents in san francisco. the san francisco unified school district has been announcing some elementary students will be able to return to the classroom next month. the district reaching a tentative agreement with the

teachers union. it calls for the district's youngest students to return for nearly a full day, five days a week, beginning april 12th. full details are yet to be released. sfusd will tell us more in-person options by the end of april. san francisco filed a lawsuit against its own school district to establish a concrete reopening plan. san jose unified are set to reopen april 2021. public schools across california now have access to $6.6 billion to help them reopen. this bill is going to reaccelerate openings all over the state >> governor newsom authorizing the bill via zoom. $2 billion for districts that can get some kids back to class

by april. as california schools look to reopen safely, so, too, are sources of outdoor entertainment, including oracle park and the oakland coliseum in time for the giants and a's new seasons. gene eli has more on the excitement from fans and how the stadiums will keep fans safe. >> reporter: they got the news they have been waiting for. the state has given the okay for fans to head inside the ballpark. >> it is the best news we have ever heard. >> giants fans are thrilled they are welcome back inside oracle park. >> high five, hugs, chest pump kind of moments. it was very exciting for us. . >> at frankie's java house where giants pride is on full display, as a fan and restaurant operator, he is overjoyed.

will bring best practices home to the bay area where health departments still need to give the final go ahead. jean elle, nbc bay area news. it's not just ballparks, amusement parks and concert venues are getting the green light to reopen. sergio quintana has that part of the story. >> reporter: spots like the greek theater in berkeley have some acts scheduled for may. they are basically concerts canceled from last year. the governor's order means places like this will be allowed to quite customers even earlier if they can. were fans of outdoor entertainment may be able to enjoy live events again. >> it sounds like a good idea really. i think people have been kind of confined, locked down for a year now. . >> last year has been rough for workers at these venues. >> it's been very tough. there's no work for anybody. not only people in the production aspect of it, but it's also you have concession

decision could be having a serious consequences. >> reporter: sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. one of the locations of the bay area's luxury fairmont hotels is shutting its doors temporarily. the operator of the fairmont in downtown san jose filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday. remaining guests were moved to nearby hotels. silicon valley's largest hotel lost at least $18 million last year largely because of the pandemic. the fairmont expects to be closed for roughly the next three months as the hotel looks for a new managing partner, meaning it likely will not carry the fairmont name when it reopens. two covid clinics are opening in the east bay. the first will be at the center of hope community church in oakland. they are trying to get more people in the african-american community vaccinated. it opens at 9:00 a.m.

we should mention it's by appointment only. at fremont high school, frontline workers can start receiving their vaccines starting at 1:00 p.m. now to a than known for making large-scale easements a reality in hollywood is here helping make a mass vaccination site possible. hammond productions is the go-to company when it comes to entertainment. now it is making a success at the solano county fairgrounds. he worked with smoey robinson, sharon stone, cedric the entertainer. he has pivoted, setting the stage for people to get their vaccinations. >> this reminds me when i flew to legos, nigeria to bring a star for beyonce, ja z, mary j. blige. >> the san francisco native is bringing success here. 3,000 shots a day are being provided at that site.

vaccine are targeting people desperate to get their shots. cybersecurity company brandshield shared some of the images it has intercepted. in most cases they are trying to convince people they can buy the vaccines online. of course that's not the case. cybersecurity companies say vaccine-related website scams are up 300% in the last three months. . >> if you see an ad on social media offering you to buy a vaccine, it's a scam. if you see a pharmacy, online pharmacy offering you to buy a vaccine, it's a scam. if someone texts you on whatsapp, messenger and offers you to buy a vaccine, it's a scam. >> very clear there. health care leaders agree it is best to stay with county health sites. we have much more on "today in the bay". coming to a theater near you, movies and people. some bay area movie theaters are

welcome back to this glorious live look at the sun rising over the hills of walnut creek. we saw rain overnight. vianey will detail your cooler weekend in just a moment. first, new overnight and while you were sleeping, senate democrats worked a deal to rework jobless benefits, making payments stay at $300, as opposed to raising them to $400. the vote on the proposal began shortly after 11:00 a.m. in washington, d.c. but wasn't formally called until nearly 12 hours later. it was introduced by bernie sanders and sought to increase

the minimum wage to $15 an hour by june 2025. it failed to get the 60 votes necessary. the vote was held open for 11 hours 50 minutes. it sets the record for the longest vote in senate history. happening today, if you're looking for something new to do this weekend, aside from sitting at home, head to san francisco to see the new exhibit at the deyoung museum. it is now open to the public. you can see paintings, sculptures in connection with pablo picasso. covid safety measures are in place if you do go. and more movie theaters are now back in business in the bay area. three more counties moved into the red tier, including santa

clara county. you can see a few customers in the lobby of the sunnyvale amc. amc theaters reopened five locations in the bay area yesterday. in the south bay, east ridge 15 and san jose. mercado 20 in santa clara and diamond theater in sunnyvale. it is 7:17. time to check in with vianey arana with a look at your microclimate forecast. in the beginning of the newscast, santa clara county, marin, napa county, and the city and county of san francisco all open for a movie. you cisse it will be a little cooler today. maybe it will be good for people to get inside. >> great option to be outdoors or indoors. it brought much needed rain.

there were periods where it was pouring in spots, because it was. it was gusty. san francisco did see a gust of 47 miles per hour up through the north bay. 50 plus. it's 47 degrees. the winds have died down a bit. here's a look over san jose. 47 degrees as well. if you're wondering if we will see more rain today, well, we are actually seeing the last of the trickle continue to make its trek east and south. not expecting a rainy saturday. right now 47 in san francisco. take a look at the afternoon. 1:00, 2:00, we start to get sunshine. temperatures will remain cool in the 50s. and wall creek in the upper 50s, low '60s. it will be cooler than the most couple of days we have seen. we have a little bit of a spring feel earlier this week. now we will shift back into more of a winter feel through the afternoon. partly cloudy. breezy at times.

remarkable deal. for less than a dollar, they will deliver an envelope to any address in the united states in a matter of days. of course a letter that took years, well, that would be a problem. but that's not the case with the one that landed in this livermore mailbox. >> i was flipping through and saw this blue envelope. my heart stopped. . >> she calls it a blessing. >> this is from my dad. >> the letter from kim's dad dennis was sent 10 years ago. he died in 2016. >> and i thought how could this be? he's been gone five years. >> it was her husband's name on the envelope. >> i pulled it out and there was a greeting card that was addressed to me telling me congratulations on my new job, which i got 10 years ago. >> there was also a hand-written note, $50 check, and $25 gift card to outbacks steakhouse. the first thing kim did was ask

second doses after appointments were canceled earlier this week. sutter tells us it now has enough vaccines to call back the patients. the health care provider says that would keep both within the cdc's recommended time frame. the delays this past week were because of inconsistent supply of vaccines from the state. sutter says right now it is getting priority members their second shot. once it is caught up on second doses, it will begin scheduling first doses once again. from star-studded events to covid crisis relief, a well-known promoter with bay area ties is using his hollywood skills to produce a life-saving event. a mass vaccination site at the solano county fairgrounds. as "today in the bay" cheryl herd found out, this showman is ready for the job. >> good afternoon. you're going to number 7 right here around the corner. >> this is just a registration. they come in. >> reporter: william hammond knows how to put on a production.

had moments where it was coming down strong. we are waking up to beautiful skies. you saw pink hues this morning. i tweeted out a picture if you want to check that out. san francisco, beautiful start to our morning. definitely gusty as the cold front along the coastline. 45 degrees right now in walnut creek. i want to show you this great shot of lake tahoe in heavenly pause they are tracking a couple more snow showers through tonight. a wind advisory is actively in place. i will get to the snowpack. partly cloudy, breezy at times, temperatures are going to be cooler than what we have seen this week. we climbed up into the upper 60s, even saw 70s. it started to feel more like spring.

now we will see it cooldown. low 60s in san jose. 62 degrees. 60 degrees in fremont. and 62 in concord. so what can we expect heading into tonight and the weekend? well, you can see here on doppler radar, the majority of the rain made its exit. we will remain dry for the weekend at least here locally. however, if you head to the sierra, they are still dealing with some of the snow showers. you definitely want to check travel conditions. as far as the snowpack goes, 56% of average. so any amount of snow that we can get is definitely beneficial for us. and let's talk about our next storm system. because we're not in the clear just yet. as we head towards monday and tuesday, we've got another chance of seeing main make its return. a low pressure system will make its approach. in addition to rain, this could possibly be a colder system

we are just about three weeks out from oakland coliseum welcoming back a's fans and across the bay. oracle welcoming giants fans back. the news broke yesterday that just in time for baseball season, fans will be allowed back in stadiums if covid cases tennessee to fall. we are all excited to see that. and great to see the sun shining. it has been one year since we first heard of an outbreak of a virus on a cruise ship set to dock on the san francisco bay. instead, it was asked to stay off the coast. its passengers and crew were quarantined. in response, the feds tasked a rescue team to the bay area to fly out to sea and find out more. now we all know all too well, that virus, covid-19, shaped the last 12 months for the entire

"today in the bay" melissa colorado has a look at two people on that cruise ship. >> desmond shows me where the first and second dose of the vaccine went into his arm. he's now immune to the virus that defined 2020 for all of us. and came close to infecting him while he was on board the grand princess cruise. >> we know people are catching it on the show and even people are dying. that is pretty bad. we were desperate to get off of there >> reporter: one of 3,500 people stuck on the cruise circling off the california coast. it was up to a rescue squadron from mountain view to get on board and figure out how many people were infected by performing nasal schwaab tests. . >> i was one of the first people to get these kind of long swabs.
