that. but first, let's check in with mike. >> all right. well, things are looking great right now, great start to the friday, end of the week commute. right now, not much of one. the green sensors all over the bay, good stuff. much drier roadways. there may be an issue 101 around the sierra point parkway. there may be a disabled vehicle. i'll track the peninsula and check all sides of the bay. yesterday, the east bay was quite slow and we'll double-check that between 6:00 and 7:00 is when it hit. well, the president is changing the rules. and a lot of people are happy about it. all states must make the vaccine available to all adults by may 1st. it caught many by surprise and the question is can we handle it? >> reporter: bay area counties have set up mass vaccination sites and they're ready to

increase the distribution of the vaccine, but at this point there are still concerns about supply. >> i'm announcing that i will direct all states, tribes and territories to make all adults people 18 and over eligible to be vaccinated no later than may 1. >> reporter: president biden's announcement led to more optimism. >> it's nice to get vaccinated. >> i think that's fantastic. >> reporter: people who are eager to get in line are all for it. but is it realistic? bay area health officials say there's not enough supply coming in to meet current demand. >> i think it came as a surprise to us and we hope that it means that they are seeing really promising increases in the manufacture and the distribution that would back that up. >> reporter: marin county health officer matt willis said increasing eligibility to everyone will create competition.

>> so we have to be much more careful about protecting slots for those people who are more -- most vulnerable. because again, if it -- it will be more competitive if the entire community has access to appointments. >> reporter: governor gavin newsom's office mentioned the supply short and said he's looking forward to working together to make this important goal a reality. a goal the president says could deliver the summer people are dreaming of. >> if we do this together, by july the 4th, there's a good chance you, your families and friends will be able to get together in your backyard or your neighborhood and have a cookout or a barbecue and celebrate independence day. >> 10% of the u.s. population is fully vaccinated and 11 million californians have received at least one dose. that includes the nearly 2 million doses for underserved communities.

on governor newsom's priority list, more than 3 million statewide are vaccinated. a bay area transit is making it easier to get to the vaccination sites. several have a list of the vaccine sites they serve to help people get a site closest to them. the agencies offer promotions for vaccine recipient. this is part of the healthy transit plan detailing on how each will welcome the riders back safely. >> if you're looking for information on how or where to get the shot, go to planyourvaccine.com. it will pull up the closest one to you. it's a familiar plea we have heard from parents. get our children back into the classroom. today, a group plans to hold a zoom in in front of oakland's technical school. they are urging school leaders to strike a deal like other bay area districts have to resume

in-person learning. according to the mercury news, a new survey finds that 58% of the elementary school parents are ready to send their children back to school. about 42% want to continue distance learning for the remainder of the year. major developments in this local uber attack that's getting international attention. one of the women involved is behind bars and as far as to the uber driver who was attacked we were the ones who told him about the arrest. we have details. >> reporter: 24-year-old malaysia king, the one wearing red in this video, is now under arrest. she's in a las vegas, nevada, jail. the other unruly passenger seen snatching away the driver's mask will soon be in custody. sfpd said we're flood to hear ms. kimiai plans to turn herself into the nearest law enforcement agency and we hope it happens promptly.

we were the first to inform the uber driver subhakar khadkas of the arrest. >> i am relieved that they -- they have apprehended the suspects. >> reporter: this happened sunday. khadkas decided to end the uber-ride early because they wouldn't wear a mask. he hoped they would apologize, but instead they took to social media. >> i myself believe in second chances. but instead of that, defending what they did made it worse. >> reporter: malaysia king was booked in nevada on several charges including assault and battery and assault with a caustic chemical. when they exited the uber following the confrontational ride, one of them reached into the window and sprayed pepper spray. khadkas has received an outpouring of support saying that he's fighting for their

cause too. >> that what made me feel like i was doing the right thing. >> to be clear, they're not girls, but women. police are hoping you recognize the car in this surveillance video. it led to the deadly shooting one week about 6:00 in the morning in the evergreen neighborhood. the victim was shot after catching people breaking into his car that was parked in his own driveway. he died in the arms of family members. the get away car is believed to be a bmw. there's a cash reward being offered so if you have any information call san jose police. a quick follow-up on the story you may have seen last night. it was about those two 11-year-old girls missing from the richmond area home. well, thanks to richmond police getting that word out quickly, this morning, they tell us that both of those girls are back home with their families. 4:38. 34 people died when a diving

i'm bertha coombs. wall street will open lower this morning the move coming foaling president biden's signing that $1.9 million stimulus package into law and the tech stocks amid optimism over the vaccine rollout. for the week, the dow and nasdaq are up more than 3%. the s&p up 2.5%. this morning we're going to get a look at inflation on the wholesale level and get reports on producer prices as well as consumer sentiment. meantime, honda plans to sell two all electric suvs in the u.s. for the year. it will also soon offer hybrid versions of the top selling vehicles. honda acknowledges that it has work to do to comply with lower emission targets coming from the biden administration and the california ban on sales of new gas powered engines starting in

2035. automakers are set to roll out 22 new electric vehicles in the u.s. this year alone. and google has introduced ways that you can help make maps more accurate and informative. i guess stealing it from waze. you can upload photos with a short description to show other people that a restaurant has outdoor seating or a business has made some changes. you can also edit maps with a desktop tool to do things like add a missing road or change a road's direction. google is also holding a nationwide challenge over the next month for people with android devices with the aim of encouraging them to leave more reviews for local businesses. those are your latest headlines from cnbc. marcus and chris, back over to you. the google thing, it seems like they're putting us to work. they should pay us for all the data we're giving them. >> thinking smarter.

4:49. it is friday. taking a live look at the golden gate bridge. yep, you can see the camera there a little wet. but has the rain cleared out for now. well, vianey is keeping track of that. so where do we stand with this rain? >> i don't know if i have all of the answers. if i did -- if i was all knowing, wow, that would be dangerous and amazing at the same time. you know -- i know, right? seriously. we have got a beautiful -- you know, overall a clear sky, but you some drizzle on the camera. that's the moisture instability

from the passing system that of course brought that winter weather on wednesday. san francisco right now for t a calm start and also pretty cold. 30s and 40s yet again to start. by the afternoon though, things will be quite sunny around here. look at doppler radar. notice the majority of activity you can see some of the snow off in the reno area. we had some more rain push down in southern california. they have their own wintry mix down there. look at your microclimate highs for today. we'll be a lot warmer compared to yesterday. we'll be in the upper 60s by a few degrees warming up in south bay, 66 degrees. palo alto, 66. however, we're not going to stay sunny for long because we see the sun kind of take over into today and tomorrow. but by sunday, the first half of your day will be fine. we'll be mostly dry unless you

wipe the screen with a squeegee. well, new financial trouble for the owner of the boat that caught on fire and killed 34 people. the owner has sold the remaining two vessels to another diving vessel. he recently pleaded not guilty to manslaughter. former leaders of the l.a. police department are out with a report on the protests following george floyd. this points out that it blames not keeping up with mandated reforms. that report does not address, however, any misconduct claims. it's now in the hands of the city council and the police department. here in the bay area as promised the naacp filed suit in

connection with the south bay protests last summer. this covers people injured by officers during the cl it asks for compensation and ise process of doing. the plaintiffs say they want more change. it's been more than one year since the pandemic changed our world. >> we're all in this together and i think the only way to rise above it is to leap on each other. >> next on "today in the bay," we take a look back at what we did to keep pushing forward. first happening now, the highly infectious covid-19 variant may be more deadly. british researchers compared the death rates among people infected with new variant and according to the cdc more than 3,000 cases of the variant have been reported here in the u.s. we'll be right back.
