said it, too. i'm cierra johnson in for laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. as we get started with this day. meteorologist the forecast is something to be excited about this morning. >> yes, we had beautiful weather over the weekend and today it's going to be a little bit more comfortable. here is a live look outside in dublin, already a lot of people up and out the door, so if you're about to head out, expect those temperatures to be in the low 40s and look at the trend for today, at lunch time, take it outside. 64 degrees and we'll make it into the low 70s for today for the inland east bay, along the coastline we have some mid-60s for highs. it's also going to be windy and we'll see a lot of changes throughout the week. we'll talk more about that. it's coming up in the microclimate forecast in a few minutes. >> all right, sounds good. new details this morning and details the entire world has been waiting for. these are live pictures along the suez canal where the shipping traffic is again primed to start moving.

teams finally managed to dislodge that cargo ship blocking the entire waterway. right now they're still working to get it moving nearly a week. it's created a massive backup in the global supply line. salvage teams have had to dredge the canal enough to get the ship to budge which it finally did at high tide, that's with the help of ten tugboats pulling full bore. close to 400 containerships are backed up in that canal, waiting for that all clear. and back home, one bay area county now looking to open vaccinations to nearly all adults. contra costa county says it has enough supplies to possibly start vaccinating anyone over 16 who lives or works there. >> "today in the bay's" sharon katsuda is live in contra costa county, looking into how soon this all could happen. sharon? >> reporter: well, it could happen very soon and this is great news, because i even know a couple of teenagers who caught

covid-19, thankfully they're doing okay, but you know, they all love to hang out. they can go see movies together right now, so this is great news for this age group and the community. now we've heard for weeks that vaccine supply would increase dramatically by may, and here in contra costa county, leaders are saying there is no shortage and the community is looking forward to seeing the younger age group vaccinated. >> we have thousands of appointments available this week, so we encourage you to get online or call us and make an appointment. >> especially teenagers because they are, you know, they want to gather. they want to see each other and everything and now it's real hard for them. >> having it readily available is such a windfall for everybody here. and i hope everybody takes advantage of it. >> reporter: contra costa health services recently opened eligibility to everyone 50 and older who live or work in this county, along with those 16 and older with at-risk health

issues. county leaders urge everyone in those current eligibility groups to make appointments before this new eligibility tier opens up in contra costa county. the county will make a final decision after learning its actual dose numbers midweek compared to scheduled appointments probably by thursday and i did go on the county health website and it says that if you do fill out that request form, the demand is very high, so it may take a few days to get back to you. reporting live in contra costa county, i'm sharon katsuda. back to you, cierra. >> thank you, sharon. so far in contra costa county, more than 600,000 doses have been administered. nearly 45% have now received at least one dose. slightly lower than coco county, but marin is more than 50%. santa clara county is at the other end with one-third of adults. this week the mass vaccination shot at oakland coliseum will switch to the

single shot johnson & johnson vaccine. it will potentially close in mid-april because the partnership between fema and the state is set to end april 11th. the county is in talks to take over the site to keep it running. it's not clear if the federal government will continue to supply those vaccines. we have a resource that can help anyone looking to get the vaccine. you can go to planyourvaccine.com, enter your state, age and occupation and it will give you more information about where you can get and secure that shot. in other news for you this morning, impassioned words at a memorial for a black man shot and killed by danville police earlier this month. protesters marched to danville police station yrday paying tribute to 33-year-old tyrell wilson, a mentally ill homeless man. wilson was killed when police responded to reports of a man throwing jocks onto the freeway from the overpass. danville police released this photo from body camera and allegedly shows wilson with a

knife. police say wilson advanced towards the officer but wilson's family's he were to says suspec 2018. oscar grant's uncle spoke at last night's memorial. >> it is important that you embrace this family because it is that embrace that gives us the strength to carry on in hopes that we could bring about real change. >> protesters say they'll continue to call for justice for tyrell wilson. president biden getting high marks for his handling of the pandemic. a new poll shows 75% of americans approve the job he's doing to fight against covid but he's less popular when it comes to immigration and gun contro a really a tough one on capitol hill but the latest shooting may bring some compromise here. >> it's possible, marcus. good morning, everyone. it has been decades since congress was able to agree on

gun control measures. now trying to balance gun rights and the second amendment with concerns after the shootings. lawmakers going to atlanta to see that on the ground firsthand and some lawmakers think there could be compromise here. they want the justice department to prosecute those shootings as a hate crime, citing fear in the asian communities. >> they see it with their own eyes and they feel what they feel and they have been entire . >> reporter: background checks on commercial sales may offer the best chance of getting 60 senators to agree on a gun law. >> you're not going to get to 60 votes with legislation that requires a when a father wants

happy mo is 6:13. let's check out our temperature trend in san rafael. our park forecast starts out with some mid-50s at 10:00, then reaching into the low 70s with sunshine later today. gets even warmer as we go through the week.

we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. and here's the problem, bay bridge jammed from the center anchorage back to and through the toll plaza, of a live look shows you all lanes quickly filled in, same thing for the 808 overcrossing. slow coming off the berkeley curve and no break even for hov. we'll show you the progress as a bridge crew is on scene with a crash at the center anchorage. well good morning and a very happy monday to you as well. it should have been a quiet week ahead on wall street. you have several holidays, no trading on friday, but it looks like things could get a bit wobbly after a large hedge fund started to sell some of its positions mayaking some big losses as investors worried about how much some banks may have invested in that same hedge fund called archigos capitol. you've never heard of it, i've never heard of it but it's worth

billions of dollars and it's been selling a lot of its positions. sold so much stock on, in viacom over the last week the parent company cbs, viacom stock was town about 50% last week. cierra mentioned the stuck ship they have partially floated. it may affect supplies and prices for weeks to come. there's an interesting new website where programmers cobbled together a program that lets you put the "evergiven" in whatever says you want. this is what it would look like if it got stuck in the boston harbor. gives you an understanding of how big this ship it. but if you tried to get it stuck in the entrance to san francisco bay you realize how big the golden gate is, how long the bridge is. the ship is tiny by comparison. we were talking earlier that a ship about that size passed through the golden gate bridge about two years ago, it was the "msc anna" at 1,300 feet long, so about the same, though apparently they don't come to san francisco bay but apparently

and also some warming air coming our way. in walnut creek, sunrise on this monday morning make sure you you get out there and enjoy it. . temperatures anywhere from the upper 30s in the north bay to some upper 40s and even 53 degrees in los gatos. 56 in brentwood. so our temperatures are still all over the place as we've seen breedy winds and where it's calmer temperatures are lower. in san jose mostly in the mid-40s as you head out for the early morning bike ride or run and by about 10:00, we're at 56 degrees, reaching into the mid-60s by 1:00 today. it's not going to be as warm as yesterday, in fact as we look at all of our microclimates and go through these trends we'll be at 66 degrees in oakland, at lunch time today, 1:00, some upper 60s in parts of the north bay and some spots reaching the lower 70s. we have a weak cold front moving

through and it will kick up winds tonight so temperatures won't be as chilly. the high pressure is nudging in closer and will warm up our temperature us wednesday answer thur. look at what's coming our way by the end of the week there could be a storm system that could bring us finally some rain going into next week but it's pretty much all dry throughout the week and temperatures going up and down. we have some low 70s today and some low 80s in the next couple of days. wednesday and thursday will feel more like summer but check out the weekend, we're going back into the 60s for highs, and so as you can see, we do have a lot of changes ahead and you'll want to make sure you keep checking in to see what's going on each day. mike, what do you have going on now looking at the commute, starting to ramp up a little bit. >> yeah, really a problem getting over from oakland and into san francisco. i showed you the backup at the

toll plaza, completely filled in. another look at the bay bridge itself from our emeryville camera. you see, look, the lights on the far side of the bridge right there, could you see where the cluster is all the way back through the tunnel and all the way along the incline. the map shows you. the issue there is a crash blocking just one lane over there just around the center anchorage. there is a crew on scene. a couple of crews there helping out but that backup quickly built through the toll plaza itself. your ultimate is b.a.r.t., no delays under the water or the san mateo or the richmond to san rafael bridges. both are moving smoothly as is the rest of the bay. back to you. >> thanks, mike. when two oakland moms occupied a vacant home to highlight the housing crisis, they took on the world. coming up, hear from one of the moms herself how she came to that decision and why she keeps fighting. but first, our team is always on social media. laura garcia got a chance to get away to tahoe over the weekend. she said on facebook it was her

there. day and night you got great things to look at. >> i was trying to snap a picture of it over the weekend but didn't quite work out. so maybe you still have a chance today as we start out this morning, a live look outside in dublin, temperatures in the mid-40s and we're going to have another clear one but the winds will pick up and it will be slightly cooler so we'll talk more about that, coming up in the forecast in just a few minutes. >> all right, thank you. now back to that story, more bay area school districts returning to in-class learning and in more cases talking about all grades being in class for more time, not just those younger students. "today in the bay's" bob redell live from danville and bob, seems like the next phase is really kicking up for some of those districts. j correct, in danville part of the san ramon valley unified school district which already had kids on campus as part of a hybrid learning model.

they will receive in-person instruction four days a week. mid and high school start today and elementary schools tomorrow. the board of education for the decision made the decision last week after the california department of health changed the social distance requirements in classrooms from six to three feet based on guidance from the cdc. mt. diablo unified school district will begin back with its third through 12th grade students for in-person instruction if they choose. students still have the option in mt. diablo to learn from home 100% of the time. this is what classrooms down in the south bay, santa clara unified, this is what they'll look like when that district cas are spaced out several feet and set up for just one person. there's also a plexiglass up around the desk. this week students in grades

pre-k through second will head back to campus and students in grades sirks and nine. the remaining grades will return next week. reporting live in danville, bob redell, "today in the bay." it's also a big day for students at stanford. upors and seniors are offered to return to campus. most instruction will continue remotely. the idea is to give students especially those seniors a meaningful experience before they graduate. strict safety guidelines will be in place including mandatory twice weekly testing. people who have no access to vaccination sites, santa clara county is rolling out a mobile vaccine service. the number of new covid cases has medical experts worried.

93 million americans have gotten one dose, just over 15% are now fully vaccinated. new infection rates are up. covid deaths remain steady as of today more than 30 million people have been infected and more than 550,000 people have died from the virus. sutter health is appealing a fine due to cal osha safety failures tied to covid exposure. the latest violations involve alta bates nurses were not notified they had been exposed. the fine amounts to $141,000 in addition to a $$155,000 fine of a nurse at the summit campus. sutter says it disagrees with the findings and argues that the report exposures occurred outside the workplace. here is a live look at san

francisco today businesses taking an important first step back to normal at uber's new corporate headquarters in mission bay. 20% of the staff returning to the thursday. come thursday the oakland coliseum pulling double duty as a mass vaccination clinic and the center of the oakland a's universe. the coliseum reopens with fans in attendance for opening day a moment the team president as could you imagine is pretty excited about. >> this is a very historic moment for sports and for the entire bay area. this is the first event with fans since everything was shut down over a year ago. >> and speaking of fun, another big opening to look forward to, this thursday, that's also when six flags discovery kingdom in vallejo reopens with rides at limited capacity. over the weekend, communities across the bay area came out in force to denounce the recent rise in hate crimes against asian-americans. in berkeley, 12-year-old mina

made the event happen with help from aapi youth rising. hundreds gathered at berkeley aquautic park and protesterers marched to the pedestrian bridge. a recent al state/san bernardino study shows on uptick in anti-asian hate crimes in 18 large american cities. the total numbers were relatively small but greater in the bay area. san jose jumped from 4 to 10 in 2020, san francisco went from 6 to 9. now experts say hate crimesven when they are, police sometimes fail to document biased incidents. masks save humans, not so much for dolphins. parkia leaders joined volunteers on linda marsh state beach on a beautiful sunday combing through the coastline for used ppe. the pacific beach coalition president says it's everyone's job to protect our ocean's

going to be a nice and warm day, just not as warm as it was with some spots in the bay area yesterday hitting the low 80s. how about some low 70s today, as we reach up to 73 in concord as well as martinez. napa will reach 72 degrees and san francisco looking at a high of about 65 degrees. it will become windy. we'll talk more about that as well as a warmup in a few minutes. mike, any problems now for the morning commute? >> more build, i guess the problem has cleared, kari, but we still have a problem. let's get out to the map, looking at the build for the commute at the bottom of your screen. san jose shows slowing 101 north toward oakland road. middle of your screen on the right we show a slowing off the castro valley y and hayward 880 out of san leandro but this is the big deal, folks are really backing up down the east shore freeway and off the 880 overcrossing, heading across toward the crash that just cleared at fremont street just seconds ago. it just cleared from the map but the backup will not clear for

expect we've seen people gathering throughout the morning and we expect that's going to continue to build through the day. george floyd's death last summer sparked a national movement, a demand for social justice, and equality. those crowds that are outside the courthouse and will be through the duration of this trial say what happens inside will give them a better idea of how far they've come and how far they still have to go. windows were boarded up, streets blocked off. the number of police and national guard troops growing around the courthouse, security that will continue to build through the trial. >> that presence will reach capacity at a graduated scale as we get closer in to the verdict and dlbrations, the capacity is 2,000 n >> reporter: there were protest this is weekend and crowds outside the courthouse are expected to grow as the

more like the mid-60s today, but still pretty good, and the winds will start to pick up today. what's going on here? we have low pressure moving away and high pressure moving right over the bay area. by the middle of the week it will cause temperatures to go up but look at what's headed our way, by the weekend, finally a storm system that will be moving closer and maybe even bring us some rain by late sunday into early next week. so look at all of these changes here. we're starting out the week with some most 70s for the inland areas, and then we warm up as the winds really start to gust between tonight and early tomorrow, and then on wednesday, we're reaching into the low 80s. this weekend, we're going right back to the 60s. so we have the need for all kinds of weather and digging out different kinds of clothes out of the closet this week. i'll keep you up to date. let's head over to mike keeping you up to date on the commute. >> kari, if we need anything other than sweats, hoodies, i may be in trouble now as my

wardrobe's kind of been on hold for about a year. folks at the bay bridge toll plaza are on hold but things are moving better. notice the hov lanes are clear. the bridge is improving, very quickly, but the backup, let's look at the map. the crash cleared just at the center anchorage on the westbound direction and look at the sensors, they've all lit up getting off the incline but the backup at the toll plaza and rippling back into the maze, the north 880 overcrossing as well as the east shore freeway where the delays will be. more traffic heads down toward the san mateo bridge, although not a major problem and san jose has your typical slowing there, no disturbance south of the dumbarton bridge. back to you. >> mike, thanks. happening now, a new study by the world health organization in china says the most likely scenario of coronavirus origins are from the transmission from bats to humans through another animal and it likely happened in one of those china's so-called exotic farms where wild animals are raised for the marketplace.

breaking news right now, the cargo ship that blocked the suez canal for nearly a week is now free. the ship "the everafter" is moving and witnesses on the ground say horns are blaring in celebration, these are live pictures from the suez canal. salvage teams had to dredge the canal to get the ship to budge. ten tugboats fuld it full bore. it's moving slowly but it is on the move so some good news there. contra costa county meanwhile now looking to open vaccinations to everyone over 16 who live or work there. >> "today in the bay's" sharon katsuda has been following the story all morning, live looking at how soon this could happen.
