florida waste water reservoir is getting bigger as manatee county remains under a local state of emergency. >> what we're looking at now is trying to prevent and respond to if need be a real catastrophic flood situation. >> reporter: a leaky man made pond started with 480 million gallons of saltwater mixed with nitrogen and ammonia now under 300 million, but threatening to burst. the florida national guard air dropping more pumps in, preparing to double the water flowing out as concern from evacuees escalates candace cays and her friends and family forced to flee after much deliberation. >> as much as i don't want to leave my home because of worries of anything happening, i'm terrified of my 7-year-old having to go through something catastrophic. >> reporter: people from more than 300 home instructed to leave the area a community crushed by the circumstances. omar's business is right on the edge of the evacuation zone. >> our health can't come back if we get sick from something that could have been prevented.

chauvin trial kicks off today, and the jury will hear from several witness, including minneapolis chief of police medaria arradondo. he will be testifying against his own former officer >> last week we heard heart-wrenching testimony from those who witnessed george floyd's final moments, sharing their brief and their guilt on the stand. this week prosecutors are expected to focus on chauvin's training our meagan fitzgerald is following the latest for us. meagan, good morning >> lindsey, good morning prosecutors are expected to call witnesses all throughout the week but the biggest headline is the chief of the minneapolis police department who is expected to testify today. >> mr. floyd was no longer offering up any resistance to the officers they could have ended their restraint. >> reporter: in a rare move, the traditional blue wall of silence broken as two minneapolis police officers testified against their own. >> totally understand necessary. >> reporter: now their chief, medaria arradondo, prepares to take the witness stand pour the

we are struggling to meet existing mission requirements. fencing is at the center of the security debate. some temporary cement barriers added this weekend while other fencing with razor wire was recently removed many lawmakers oppose making fences permanent. >> i don't think it does the job. in fact, the fencing was right there when the car drove through. >> reporter: the task force led by general honore is recommending that congress find the money the hire more than 850 additional officers, in part, they would reduce the strain of forced overtime that is putting a burden on officers now, and would allow for developing intelligence capabilities the department doesn't have now. lindsey? >> all right, kelly, thank you we could see some progress made this week on a renewed iran nuclear deal the u.s. is set to begin indirect talks with iran in

vienna tomorrow. but the state department says they don't expect to make any immediate breakthroughs. nbc's ali arouzi joins us now from iran. ali, good morning. what are the expectations for talks this week? >> good morning for them well, the aim of tomorrow's meeting in vienna is to try and get both the u.s. and iran back into compliance through reciprocal steps for them to try to figure out a synchronized mechanism that will be acceptable to both sides and crucially the meeting could offer an indication as to whether tehran and washington are ready for a first standive move but phillip, it's going to be complicated. for a start, tehran has rejected any direct contact with the united states in vienna. iranian officials are adamant that the u.s. will not attend any meetings where they are present. also, iran is still maintaining the position that it will only come back into compliance once all sanctions are removed. nonetheless, phillip, this is a step forward
