"the daily mail" this morning reporting that only prince harry will travel here for the funeral. nbc news has not confirmed that, but it might makes sense. meghan, of course, is pregnant. the day of the funeral may be announced today. surely, a day that will be one of the hardest for the queen. the queen has never been queen without prince philip. this morning, she woke up a widow, making plans for his funeral at windsor castle. with flags across the uk at half-staff, outside buckingham palace, the traditional announcement of her husband's palace and many tributes to the king of edinburgh's side. >> her strength and stay of more

than 70 years. >> condolences from australia's prime minister, new zealand's jacinda odern and canada's justin trudeau, calling him a man of conviction. and on british television overnight, prince philip's children paying tribute in prerecorded interviews. >> you ask anybody who had the privilege of listening to him speak or with any of the events that he hosted, it was always his humor that came through. n a greek royal, exiled with his family. became in his own words a refugee. he saw action on battle ships in world war ii, a brave and brilliant naval officer, and an outsider whose wedding to princess elizabeth and then her coronation as queen elizabeth, thrust him into an unwelcoming establishment. his primary role became supporting his wife the queen, telling "today" there were tensions.

recognized at 99 his days were numbered. there were hope he would make it to his 100th birthday in june. sadly, that's not the case. you can see today the queen's children driving into windsor castle, they made a visit to their mother to help her at a moment of terrible loss and sorrow. >> the passing comes amid a royal rift, only weeks since harry and meghan did the explosive interview with oprah, discussions who would attend the funeral, perhaps harry would, maybe meghan would, maybe she can't due to the pregnancy. what are your expectations? >> reporter: my expectations is that prince harry will attend alone. he may even be making the journey as we speak this weekend. expecting to be reunited with his family. of course he loved his grandfather, wants to be there for his grandmother. it will be difficult for meghan to attend, she's pregnant. and to avoid a distraction.

this week should be about the family mourning, but most importantly should be about the queen in her hour of need. >> and camilla, how is the rest of the country doing this morning? >> reporter: i think actually people are being taken quite surprised by their own emotions. one hand, you have a man who had good innings, lived to 99, had a remarkable, extraordinary life. for people of my generation, actually prince philip represents somebody of the wartime era, perhaps somebody like your own grandfather who has connection with a different bygone era. people are paying respects at buckingham palace and windsor castle simply because he was this grand fatherly figure for the nation. emotions are running high for the queen now. both these people have been a figure of british and global lives more than seven decades, and the notion of the queen having to carry on at 95 without

to his death, not drugs or pre-existing conditions. >> mr. floyd's use of fentanyl did not cause the neck restraint. heart disease did not cause the sub duel or neck restraint. >> reporter: the defense pushing back. >> do you recall describing the level of fentanyl as a fatal level of fentanyl? >> i recall describing it in other circumstances, it would be a fatal level, yes. >> reporter: dr. andrew baker, the latest medical expert to take the stand for the prosecution. >> there's no evidence to suggest he would have died that night except for the interaction with law enforcement. >> mr. floyd died from a low level of oxygen. and this caused damage to his brain. >> reporter: this comes after several police officers testified against their own, reacting to the nine minutes and 29 seconds derek chauvin had his knee on george floyd's neck. >> use the least amount of force

right now, 50 degrees in san francisco. notice by about 10:00, 11:00 a.m., any cloud cover sort of dissipates into the afternoon and then we hit those mid- and upper 50s. san jose right now, a little chillier, though. 47 degrees and eventually about 11:00, 12:00, up into those 50s and 7:00. we are starting off the morning with some breaking news that may not have been the alarm clock that got you out of bed today. an earthquake hit the south bay a little before 5:00 this morning. the center of the 3.0 magnitude quake was just outside of livermore, near del valle regional park, about 40 miles southeast of oakland. this is actually the second earthquake to rattle the area in less than a week. so far, there are no reports of any injuries or damage. i have posted about the quake on twitter, so let me know if you felt the shaking. lightheadedness, dizziness, and nausea right after taking the new johnson & johnson vaccine. those are some of the minor side effects being reported around the country and even here in the

bay area. first responders were called to a vaccination clinic in brentwood yesterday. four people in all complained of reactions and symptoms. one was taken to the hospital by ambulance. a growing number of clinics across the country have reported rare cases of adverse effects on people after getting the j&j shot. some clinics exclusively administering the johnson & johnson shot have actually paused while federal health leaders evaluate the situation. however, the cdc says there is no cause for concern and tells everyone that the benefits of getting vaccinated still far outweigh the risks of having a reaction. and coming up this morning on "today in the bay," nightmares, exhaustion, and ptsd. a new study says these are all symptoms found in overworked first responders in the pandemic. so what should hospitals do? we'll tell you what the head of the study has to say about that. and all of your top stories and more coming up at 7:00. for now, we'll send you back to the "today" show.

house ethics committee opened an investigation into actions not just on sex trafficking but over allegations he showed nude images on the house floor and misused campaign funds. the congressman's heavily prowoman message after joel greenberg was arraigned on an array of charges, including sex trafficking of a minor, which drew the feds' attention to gaetz. they told the judge they expect a plea and not to go to trial. >> i am sure matt gaetz was not feeling comfortable today. >> he is a close ally of president donald trump, hired attorneys and outside pr firm to manage the scandal. a spokesperson telling nbc news he will fight back against the unfounded allegations. he is not charged with a crime and denied wrongdoing. still, calls to leave congress, including from a republican, adam kinzinger who says gaetz needs to resign.

while he doubles down in the face of scandal, republican allies hard to find. female staffers in his office said they never witnessed a hint of impropriety. the statement didn't include their names. even trump subdued, offering only a reminder of gaetz's denials. he takes it as a sign of support, blasting a fundraising email to help trump and i fight back against another media hoax. and guys, gaetz's called it a legal hoax. he hired one of the lawyers that represents the trump organization in ongoing criminal and civil investigations, ongoing now in the state of new york. peter, kristin? >> ali vitale for us live in florida. thank you. we check in with dylan with a look at the forecast. it is spring, hopefully will feel like it. >> for some it is. for others, it will feel like
