latest mass shooting. this happened last night inside fedex facility. they have that area roped off as investigators continue to try to figure out what happened here last night and certainly still a morning where the city is still mourning. at least eight people died before police say a gunman turned the gun on himself. another six people are injured, four now in the hospital. president biden has already been briefed on that the shooing. one eyewitness this morning telling the "today" show about what he saw. >> i'm sitting on a bench and so i stand up. i see a man, a hooded figure. i was unable to see his face in detail. however, the man did have an ar in his hand, and he started shouting and then he started firing at random directions. >> scary scene out there. so far, police are not saying if

the gunman worked at the facility and not identified him or even talking about any possible motives. right now we want to turn to new developments on the pandemic this morning and a push to vaccinate. covid restrictions are starting to ease as a result of fewer cases and you'll see proof that this weekend in san francisco with the return of live events and more dining options. >> we have live team coverage this morning including the major announcement from pfizer on the likelihood of more shots down the road. we start today with "today in the bay's" sharon katsuda live in san francisco. good morning, sharon. >> reporter: good morning, cierra and marcus. you can go to these live event even the indoor event but you have to show proof that you're fully vaccinated or you can show proof of a recent negative covid test. "the chronicle" says new reopening guidelines include live events can operate indoors

where 100% capacity in the vaccinated participant area. outdoor 50% if covid vaccination or negative covid test. indoor dining can open past 11:00 p.m. but maximum six people per table. private receptions with capacity limitations, indoor conventions with social distancing and masks. it looks like all the reopenings are affecting the unemployment rate. california reports 69,000 were unemployed for the week of april 10th compared to more than 600,000 at this time last year. yesterday the california legislature passed a bill requiring some businesses such as hotels and convention centers to reho were laid off during the pandemic, so governor newsom has not said whether he will sign the bill but the vetocy similar bill last year saying it was overbroad.

here in minneapolis protesters gathered outside the brooklyn center police department demanding justice for daunte wright, gathered hours after the hearing from the former police officer now charged in the death. wright's family wants accountability. that hearing for former brooklyn center officer kim potter was held behind closed doors, the 26-year veteran of the force is charged with second-degree manslaughter. when it happened, potter said that she mistook her gun for a taser. and new details in chicago, where emotions are also running high, new body camera footage shows the police shooting of 13-year-old adam toledo last month. officers were chasing toledo along with an adult suspect after calls of shots fired nearby. still frames of that video show the teenager raising his hands at the time he was shot with no weapon in his hands. it's still not clear if he was

ever carrying a gun but police say they did recover a weapon behind a nearby fence. san francisco demonstrators responding to recent deadly police shootings, hundreds rallied last night in the city's mission district calling for an end. the protest was held in part in support of a man recently killed in daly city named roger allen. he died after investigators say he was sitting in his truck holding a fake gun. his sister took part last night. >> that was my only brother. my mom passed away seven years ago, my sister passed away two years after my mom died so now it's just me. i never want my brother to be no hashtag. >> organizers are so angry calling for abolishing the police and even the u.s. justice system. for the black community both shootings are reopening wounds they say never seem to heal. we want to talk about these events, we talked about them during our last night episode of "race in america: the conversation." we also discuss the anger and

google earth allows you to time lapse anywhere in the world so i picked a few cold weather places like greenland, and mendenhall glacier in alaska. google used 24 million photographs dating back to 1984. the time lapse of san francisco isn't quite as dramatic, but you can see the city filling in there. google says it's processed 20 million gigabytes of pictures making the movies the biggest single movie ever made. you can zoom in on anywhere, on your own house and watch the time change over the years but i will warn you and i tried to do this at home. you need a really, really fast connection and a powerful computer to get it done. most of mine are still, like wait, what do you want to do? >> it's cool to see, you were showing the little lip leaning in like wow. that's pretty cool.

san jose but it could be as warm as 77 in antioch today, while oakland will reach into the mid-60s and along the coast it's still cool. we have upper 50s in half moon bay if you're planning to make it a beach day. san francisco reaching 60 in the mission district and our north bay high also reach into the low 70s. sonoma today reaching 73 degrees. so we're still all dry through this forecast, high pressure not going anywhere. and it's going to ramp up our temperatures, but we will have a cooldown as the low passes to the north by early next week. we have a lot of up and down in our temperatures. today it's still mild but look at the weekend forecast, inland valleys and some of our spots inland will reach into the mid 80s but then cooler as we head toward next tuesday. we'll be watching out for a few more clouds. vianey, how is the roads, how is that moving right now for the commute? >> pretty good. down through the south bay we've got no issues. even along 880, which usually starts to get busy around this time, but i do have an advisory

>> reporter: police have not said if the gunman marked at the facility and the motive is unclear. fedex released a statement "our focus at this time is on the safety and well-being of our team members and cooperating with investigators." 5:31, now back to the pandemic. contra costa seems to be the place to go if you're looking to get a vaccine. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live in san ramon. i know appointments are available there. >> reporter: there are, now i couldn't find any appointments available for the diablo valley vaccination site behind me in san ramon but online i could find some in san pablo, richmond, concord and antioch. yesterday the antioch community center began opening up for shots. that site administered 150 doses yesterday and apparently there's a lot more doses to go around from that location. the antioch community center which is run by the federal, state and local agencies can now

accommodate 500 shots a day. some on a walk-in basis. the problem according to one antioch city councilmember, a lot of people don't know about it. >> i have people from sacramento today that came in, walnut creek, pleasanton. people are trying desperately to get in on an overloaded system where they can come here and get those shots right away. >> reporter: again it's at the antioch community center. san mateo county, however, hasn't been so lucky. county supervisor dave canea says opening up eligibility statewide is creating more problems for his county. the latest blow is the pause put on the johnson & johnson vaccine. he's begging the state for help to send more doses to the peninsula. they still have a lot of demand and not enough supply. reporting live here in san ramon, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> that demand certainly has gotten greater. bob, thank you. in a few hours, another mass vaccination effort begins in the

north bay. kaiser permanente is partnering with napa county and holding a clinic in napa beginning at 9:00 at the meritage resort and spa. you must have an appointment for the first dose. a second appointment will automatically be scheduled at the same time and location for next month. if you've received the pfizer vaccine it's looking more and more like you'll eventually need a booster shot. an extra dose will likely be necessary within 6 to 12 months. dr. john torres says it may eventually be a yearly shot, just like the flu shot. >> what we don't know at this point is whether you could switch between different types of vaccines for that booster shot but hopefully will soon. >> some experts also believe a covid vaccine booster may one day be folded into the flu shot. you can see the entire interview later on the "today" show at

recent deadly police shootings and the death of george floyd. the city of oakland says it is aware of a protest planned for downtown at 8:00 tonight. the city says streets, freeways and bridges may bening today, s francisco police plan to take another step to boost protections for the asian-american community. they're rolling out a new hotline specifically for people of chinese descent, allows people to more easily report crimes and include options for people who only speak cantonese or mandarin. leaders plan to talk about that today at noon. palo alto leaders are considering a new programs for those struggling to make it in the bay. one includes a rent stabilization initiative. similar efforts failed in the past due to political opposition but according to palo alto online, another sets limits on how much landlords can charge for security deposits. another idea and ordinance that prohibits housing discrimination

work this morning, how is the commute moving, vianey? >> it's moving. you know, we haven't really seen any big issues. starting to notice a little bit of a building commute down to the south bay but that's just kind of normal for this hour. aside from that, let's get a look at how your tri-valley drive times are doing. westbound 580 grant line road to 680 about 23 minutes. southbound 680 from 580 to value gas road about 10 minutes and westbound 8 from vallecitos road to 680 slowing down normal around the 6:00 a.m. hour about 13 minutes. normally about less than, probably 5, 7 minutes so double that now. south bay drive times northbound 101 from highway 85, 23 minutes. northbound 2080 from highway 1017 minutes and northbound 85 from highway 101 only 20 minutes. really we've had a fantastic morning when it comes to how quiet the chp traffic reports have been.
