of sunshine today, and the nice weather we had over the weekend continues today, as we make it into the mid-70s by early in the afternoon. we'll talk about what's ahead as we look for some slight rain chances. we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. kari, you mentioned commute but none seen here at the bay bridge toll plaza. no backup, but it's slow across the span a bit. look at these numbers, though, contra costa county, and alameda county, typical slow spots or even slower as there was an earlier crash, 580 is recovering. vasco is a little slower. we'll show you how the vicinity, the ripple effect plays out. >> sounds good. it's quarter to 7:00 right now. the white house has resisted calling the situation at the border a crisis. >> but over the weekend, the president did just that, scott mcgrew. >> yes he did. his press secretary has gone to great lengths to the past to avoid the word crisis but it's hard to avoid the conclusion
6:46 am
when you look at the pictures coming out of texas and arizona. i'm going to play a brief bit of audio. it's almost impossible to hear between the distance and the mask, but the point here is the president is using that word crisis. you'll need to take my word for it. the president speaking about the number of legal refugees allowed into the united states. the previous president had placed big limits on the number allowed in. russia has answered our new sanctions by sanctioning americans and america, including our secretary of state and our attorney general. now, when we sanction russia, we cut their people out of things like world banking. when they sanction us, it really doesn't mean that much at all. the late senate john mccain was sanctioned by russia in 2015 to which he replied "i guess this is off, my gazprom stock is lost

and my secret bank account in moscow is frozen." georgia congresswoman marjorie taylor greene distancing herself from what appear to be her own plan to create a political group called america first caucus. it describes itself as celebrating anglo-saxon traditions. it was too much for even house minority leader kevin mccarthy who called it white nationalism. former speaker of the house john boehner was on "meet the press" sunday morning decrying white nationalism and trumpism and the republican party and selling a new book. he's pretty frank about the chances he'd ever run for office again. >> would you ever run for office again? >> i'd rather set myself on fire than to run for office again. >> the only reason i ask that question because i expected an answer just like that. >> you're a [ bleep ]. you're a [ bleep ]. >> i assume i'm getting that as a compliment.
6:48 am
? didn't know they had bleeping on "meet the press." it's a first i think. we're talking about that on twitter, all kinds of things as well. you can find me there, i'm @scottmcgrew. >> thanks so much, scott. 6:47. if you had a hard time booking a vaccine appointment we have good news. thousands of spots are available. >> kris sanchez is live at levi's stadium the mass vaccination site with good news. kris in >> reporter: good morning to you. it was such a nice sight to see, refreshing on that county website, and seeing that there were so many appointments available not only here at levi's stadium for next weekend but also for the weekdays leading up to that throughout the county at the different mass vaccination sites. as you well know by now probably eligibility is open to anyone over the age of 16. no previous health conditions required. if you work in santa clara county, you are also eligible to get a shot here and that

includes people who have had covid and recovered. the see it can recommends if you recovered from covid, you still get a vaccine after 90 days because they don't know how long the natural antibodies will last. book one through sccfreevax.org or vaxscc.gov.org. appointments available through stanford health at the emeryville site. you can book an appointment through the myturn.ca.gov appointments there for today, tomorrow, wednesday and thursday. the state is on track for most californians to be vaccinated by the middle of the summer, which is good. people are starting to mingle and travel and there are still cases popping up in other states. >> we're also seeing that the, a growing trend of young, healthy unvaccinated people, because
6:50 am
they're not vaccinated yet, people are among some of the sickest. >> reporter: some of the websites popped up virtually over night and a little glitchy if you want to describe it that way. they do require things like slashes and dashes, so if you're frustrated trying to book your appointmen phone you might try a computer and it might go a little smoothly for you there as well. by the way, i also checked with contra costa county, there are also appointments available at several different sites there. in santa clara, kris sanchez, "today in the bay" >> thanks. the warriors are in the middle of a road trip, but when they return home this week it will be a special homecoming because for the first time in more than a year, fans will be able to return friday night for the game against denver. they must be fully vaccinate or have proof of a negative covid test before they get in. so we absolutely love this next story, because love is really what this one's all about. and it starts here with the two

newest additions that arrived at the oakland zoo. aren't they cute? will two-little sheep. they decided this is the part that we love and it's personal to us here on "today in the bay". they named them claire and tony. the zoo is not telling us how they picked the names but here is where it gets interesting for us. so it so happens that our own fabulous producer, tony leong, he just got recently married to the love of his life, claire. they're both still glowing. isn't that cool? tony and claire, maybe this is where they got the inspiration, because these days, they're certainly inspiring to us. they had planned a big wedding but the pandemic changed so many things so the lovely couple eloped in big sur, just the two of them and officiant and a guess a photographer.
6:52 am
>> beautiful photos they have. >> can't stop love. >> tony and claire. let's get a look at the forecast for both tony and claire, nice weather today, right? >> yes, we're going to make sure the sun continues to shine. look at this beautiful view that we have over san jose as we wake up on this monday morning, ready to head out the door and get this day started. we have our start this morning at 50 degrees. we will head back into the 70s today, but it won't be as warm as yesterday and the breeze will be picking up. if you want to go for a hike in the east bay, we will see temperatures in the mid-50s over the next couple of hours but look at this afternoon, some upper 70s bring your bottle of water and the sunscreen and enjoy a dayout side, as our high temperatures reach into the low 80s. we'll see that in concord and north bay with santa rosa reaching 83 degrees, oakland 70 and san francisco the low clouds and fog to start but it will clear out today with some breezy

winds. it's been so dry and we've seen these storm systems passing to the north of the bay area. as we go toward the weekend, looks like we could see some changes. we are going to optimistically watch this area of low pressure that could possibly tap into some tropical moisture, and boost the rain chances that we could see here in the bay area for sunday, into monday. of course, i'll keep you up t date on that. we have a fairly quiet week ahead. more sunshine, cooler temperatures with a stronger ocean breeze. by thursday, it warms up just slightly but check out the weekend, it will not be the warm weather we had this weekend coming up. we only see the highs in the 60s. mike, heading out to work, any problems for the commute? >> you know, kari, actually approaching the bay bridge you can still stay at the speed limit which happens to be in the 60s as well. look at the live shot we have at the toll plaza, yes, this is 6:53 on our clock and no backup at the toll plaza to speak of. there's some slowing across the span so as we look at the
6:54 am
numbers, the travel times as you get past the toll plaza heading over toward the city, still about 16 minutes. that's not bad slowing on the span. the number on the bottom, that's the one that's a problem. dumbarton bridge, delayed about five minutes, say four or five minutes because of the slowing off of the decline getting in toward the peninsula side. some sort of crash there, minor crash blocking one lane, slowing in san jose typical there. no major concerns but still recovery and slowing off of vasco at the tail end toward 580 coming out of contra costa county. back to you. >> thanks, mike. happening now, marin county today reopens most of its library for in-person for its first time since the pandemic started. visits are limited to 30 minutes and masks are required. curbside service will continue at all library locations. also today, sonoma county government offices are reopening with limited hours. coming up next, a quick look at our top stories, including one bay area county may be poised to enter the least restrictive yellow tier, meaning
